I seem to remember reading that the aircraft altitude was lower than expected due to the design of Altimeters at the time. The pilot 'zeroed' the altimeter at takeoff, but in the course of a flight such basic calibration would sometimes result in losses or gains. Modern systems are constantly controlled in real time giving true readings.

Personally I've ridden the snake on a few occasions and never had any problems, those who have are, as you say often sportsbike riders treating the pass as a track and not the public road it is, and testing themselves, but found wanting, maybe not all but a lot, and of course due to the number of people who have caused RTI's on the pass the authorities take note and reduce the speed limit ect 🤷🏻‍♂️

Interesting story, thank you. I own the same bike, bought it new in 2018 when I was not a very experienced rider. I rode 57000 km with it, no commuting, only 250 km or more every ride on twisty roads, and highway to reach them. Had a hard time at the beginning to feel at ease with it, but it was me, I needed to learn more riding techniques. The more I learnt, especially trailbraking, the more the bike reacted well to my inputs, and felt very comfortable and reassuring, and very endearing doing so. I see that you changed your shocks to Ohlins 752, i did too, and rediscovered my bike. I also changed the forks internals for an Andreani Milano kit, which improved the front traction significantly. I believe your hip issue may be linked to the protruding air filter on the right side, making it non symmetrical. It tends to make me sit sideways. Maybe someone could follow you to see your position on the bike, and help you correct your position. Regarding bags, I have the European number plate which makes it easier to load the bike. Regarding the speedometer, mist appeared once, I took it to the dealer, they did something (not sure what) and it didn’t come back. Maybe these minor adjustments could help you feel more at one with the Roadster, which I grew very fond of. I own another more modern and powerful bike, but it’s always the Roadster I feel drawn to, to tackle my favorite twisty roads. Who’d have thought that of a Harley? I think I’ll keep it forever, besides other bikes. If you are decided to move on, may I suggest you check the Kawasaki Z900RS? It may offer the position you look for, and it has a really nice chassis and engine.

Some great points raised in this one. Haven’t commuted for a few years now on my bike. When I did commute through winter, I hated the frost, icy mornings , no fun or enjoyment at all. I’ve never considered the image aspect to be important to me. I know it really is a big thing to some. My main concern is to be dressed appropriately for the expected conditions on the day. And I often get that wrong! lol. Never been kitted up like Either a power ranger nor an Angel. Other than that, almost everything else is spot on.
