I met Mr.Belkin and found him to be a really nice person. When I talked to him he was saying how much he missed his family, being away on concert tours so much. He played so beautifully that night.

More! Maybe you have to hear him live. I've never heard a more passionate male violinist. I was in the string section when he played the Bruch (1981), and the entire orchestra was swept up into his playing, into his passion.

A Beautiful piece played beautifully. The violin can be heard and seen clearly: really brings the piece vividly to life.

The only thing I dislike is the mute that he uses at the end of the 1st mov. It's too light and doesn't change or mute the sound of the e string enough. The flute has the main theme, but it's difficult to follow it because Belkin is too loud. In this passage, the violin should accompany the woodwinds, and not vice versa. Apart from that, it's one of the most remarkable interpretations I have heard.

Why did you have the sound level so low? I wish you could boost it (the master) and re-up

shooting from the back of the violinist instead of the front so people have no idea about the fingerings and the positions? thanks, camera man, the back of his violin is all i wanna see...

really great interpretation. one thing i love about this piece is that it enables the violinist to choose how he/she wants to set the mood. i love this interpretation because the artist here creates a wide range of contrasting moods. great video!

@theoceanave I never cease to be amazed at some of the comments that allknowing people like you make on youtube! "Belkin is not a great talent"!! Are you a great violinist? By what standards are you judging him? I think Belkin is generally very highly regarded though he may not be the very best violinist (whatever that means)!

@manifold0606 Compare this part -at 1:07- to "Hilari Hahn plays Prokofiev violin concerto 1/3" -passage 6:50- (loaded by Yamafuki) just listen carefuly.

I did it right now, no any difference in the text, both wrong notes? Come on please, there is no any prize for who doesn't make mistakes! It's music, it's about music that we have to talk about! This is absolutely the best performance of Prokofiev n1! 🙂

  • @FrederickNetwork

@manifold0606 from 1:15 exactly it's sounding wrong, in this sequence only to be precise, I insist about it. I don't know this part of piece I'm not musician but this concerto I know it very well it's one of my favourite Prokofiev's music. I'm a great fan of Prokofiev and others russians musicians too.

So nice to hear Belkin again in this music. His early recording with Ashkenazy is among the very best. We heard him with the Oregon Symphony two seasons ago in the Richard Strauss concerto (no walk in the park) and he was phenomenal!
