Nick was and still is the only guy I've ever seen who not only could pull off make-up and androgyny, but totally own it. I've not seen anyone before or since who came close. Everyone else seems like they're trying too hard to fit a male peg in a feminine hole, and it doesn't work. But he did it with awesomeness. I still think he doesn't get the credit he deserves, like so many other talented artists, and I'll never understand why DD's later albums of the 90s didn't do as well, I have them and think they're better than the earlier ones (almost -- except seven and the ragged whatever. . . that album was just not on par with the first two). But then, I remember the 90s, great years really, but I think with grunge early on, and alternative that evolved out of it later, there just wasn't any mercy for groups like them at the time. Not until again in the early 21st century. I'm glad that happened for them. Sometimes I miss the 90s (and the 70s) but then that is because of looking through the eyes and memory of an older adult. I suppose if I had them to live over again, I would make all the same mistakes, date all the wrong people, and choose all the wrong majors in college -- and who really wants to do that again? Oh, but Mr. Nick, kudo's to you for doing what so many of us across the pond were just too wrapped up in machismo and macho bullshit to do.
