This was awesome. Great job, guys.
Thanks!
The meaning of the mask on the bed is "Danger." Kubrick signals to the audience, but why now? Good question.
Movie: Alice tells Bill she would leave him and their child for another man if he just said the word. Even if it was for only one night and her future was ruined. Every reviewer: Bill is upset because his wife told him she wanted to have sex with another man.
A horribly bad film. R. Lee Ermey said Kubrick spoke with him how bad it was. Kubrick made some great films, but this isn't one of them.
@@DavidBrown-ke8cb I can understand why some don’t like it, and I believe we talk about R. Lee Ermey’s story later in the pod
Ok. Do Francis Coppola please. The best films of all time.. 1. Exotica 2. G-dfather 2 3. Cincinnati kid 4. Thomas crown original 5. Goldfinger 6. Caligula 7. Performance 8. The deer hunter 9. The bad and the beautiful 10. Wall street the original
I definitely want to do Coppola’s movies soon because I need to talk to someone about Megalopolis😂
@DirectorDossiersJohnnyCruz I'll tell you another great movie I saw yesterday...The Apprentice...
@ I nearly watched that movie the other day! I gotta watch it when the rental price drops
Casino is his best masterpiece.
What makes you prefer it over something like Goodfellas?
@DirectorDossiersJohnnyCruz The introduction Sharron Stone and the greatest comedian of all time.
Rickles was the best. Aatch his AFI speech at Scorsese’s lifetime achievement night if you haven’t seen it already, its hilarious
I really would love to see a commentary video on this film
That's a good idea
this channel is peak
🫡
Milos Forman would be a good episode
*a GREAT episode
@@DirectorDossiersJohnnyCruz Amadeus is my #1 so I'm slightly biased here
Hahahaha where does cuckoos nest rank for you?
@@DirectorDossiersJohnnyCruz Definitely close. I have a "6 degrees of Kevin Bacon" style connection to the author of the original book. He hated the movie.
Only when you're dead and everything is over are your eyes wide open. French for Orgasim is little death.
NICK NIGHTENGALE doups him, just like NICOLE KIDMAN'S character does. He doesn't know because his EYES are WIDE SHUT.
EWS is very much like Vertigo
. & you thought you’d get the same stupid boots ! 😆
You are the first person to notice!!!!!!
“I’m from New York. I see a plane I get scared.” Wild stuff. Wild stuff
I can’t believe Scorsese said that hahaha
This is a monster of a video ... and just part 1
Look at part 3💀
Wow, I deeply respect you for making this one video. lol
Thanks! I hope it was worth it hahahaha
Any ideas on who you’re talking about next
We might do a couple Deep Dive Episodes on single movies next, then after that maybe someone like David Lynch or Fincher. Any single movie suggestions for a deep dive episode?
@@DirectorDossiersJohnnyCruz Would love to see a deep dive episode on Psycho (1960). You guys have been doing an awesome job and can’t wait for a Lynch dossier!
Psycho is a great suggestion, thanks!

THE PASSWORD FOR THE HOUSE IS F*CK, TO LET THE AUDIENCE KNOW SHE WAS IN ON IT.
Interesting...
@@DirectorDossiersJohnnyCruz I am so right. Fidellio implies fidelity which basically means faithfulness. That's a good reason to get married, but F**k suggest that if you want to keep your spouse faithful that's what you have to do.
That’s a great observation, I’ll definitely be keeping this in mind next time I watch the movie
@@DirectorDossiersJohnnyCruz you could also say this is the real Doctor Strangelove, cause doctor bill likes to do them dirty.
Great Movie 👏 👏 👏 👏 👏 👏
Fantastic Kubrick 👏 👏
Thanks!
David Lynch next?
After our final Scorsese episode, we'll probably do a couple deep dive episodes on single movies, but after that, David Lynch is a likely contender
really enjoyed this
Thanks!
Hey. I listened to all y’all’s podcasts at work. Love the show fellas. Where can I see y’all’s micro budget feature? Is it on UA-cam anywhere?
Wow, thanks for your support! And our movie is on the festival circuit right now, but will be availible on digital sometime in March or April. At that time we will post the trailer on this channel and post a deep dive episode on how we made the movie. For more info on the movie, here's the IMDB page: www.imdb.com/title/tt26933510/?ref_=nv_sr_srsg_0_tt_8_nm_0_in_0_q_the%2520documents Edit: Also I just watched The Two Types Of Men on your channel and it was hilarious hahahah
@@DirectorDossiersJohnnyCruz thanks a lot. Sounds cool. I’ll definitely check it out when it drops.

The best Scorsese laugh imitation lol
That’s what most of the work on this episode went into hahahahaha
@DirectorDossiersJohnnyCruz 😂🤣... Great job on everything, hope u guys keep going. I'm sharing ur work with friends 👍🏾
Wow, thanks! As long as people like you enjoy it we’ll definitely keep going, the final episode on Scorsese is on the way👍
Well, after 3:55:13 of pure gold of information, i suppose i´m not the only one here, so you guys are probably not talking to me... Anyways, outstanding as always!
Wow, thanks! It's very encouraging to know that people are listening at four hours in hahahahah. We're glad you find the show valuable!
I've never heard an impersonation of Scorsese's laugh. 😂 Excellent verisimilitude, dude!
Thanks hahahaha most of the research for this episode was spent practicing the laugh
Thanks for not spoiling The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford.
It would be a shame if I spoiled the ending of The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford
What's your favorite Scorsese movie we've covered so far and why? Also, screw it, what's your LEAST favorite Scorsese movie and why?
42:50: I definitely liked and subscribed! You guys are awesome.
Thanks! Glad you’re enjoying the show!
Holy crap this is long! How long did this take you to export lol
About four hours hahahaha, honestly which isn’t bad compared to other exports I’ve done
@@DirectorDossiersJohnnyCruz Wow, not bad at all.
Excellent stuff, gents. I had the advantage of seeing Network on release and only two moments really got a hearty laugh from the audience - the Great Ahmed Khan and Diana climaxing during her monologue. While it was observantly humorous, we boomers mostly realised this was a very dark satire. You mentioned George C Scott was considered for the Beale role, which makes sense - he was terrific in the film version of Cheyevsky's The Hospital.
Thanks! And I still haven’t seen The Hospital, I’ll have to check it out👍
Well worth a watch
turned you guys off at 1:00
Fan Suggestion: a John Huston show.
Would definitely love to do that!
Epic
Watch Breathless by Jean-Luc Godard, get to it! lol
Movies like Godard’s are ones I need to start watching soon
@DirectorDossiersJohnnyCruz u guys are doing an amazing job, keep at it 👍🏾💪🏾❤️
@@pierrelurhuma6009 thank you! We will👍
You guys covered a lot of ground that not many other analyses manage to, and even gave me a few new things to ponder over. It’s not just a testament to what a great film it is that we can still be discussing and trying to interpret it twenty-five years after its initial release, but that the themes therein are as relevant as ever. A very interesting and enjoyable two and a half hours boys, kudos 👍🏼
Thanks for the encouragement! I’m glad interest in Eyes Wide Shut has kind of surged in recent years
@@DirectorDossiersJohnnyCruz other UA-cam analyses tend to tiptoe around some of the more controversial aspects whereas nothing was really off the table with you guys, and you even made sure to acknowledge the fact that just because we happen to notice it doesn’t necessarily mean it was intended. Very thought-provoking and surprisingly comprehensive analysis for how casual your format is, which makes it more accessible for the casual listener. Not sure if you guys heard of the upcoming EWS-centric doc Kubrick’s Endgame, but should be interesting to see if it sheds any more light on the mystery for us. Cheers from Canada 🇨🇦🤙🏼
It means a lot to us that you enjoyed the show, and thanks for bringing up this new documentary. I hadn’t heard about it but I’m definitely looking forward to it now!
Very nice to see a bunch of young whippersnappers talking about films like this! the way it used to be, with respect. Nice and laid back. As far as I know, Nolan filmed BB for about 70 mil if not quite a bit less. The extra was then added to do extra fx but also make it seem like the budget was greater than it was - mainly because Nolan did such a great job they wanted to make people think the studio were behind that quality.
Interesting anecdote, we’re happy you’re enjoying the show! Is Nolan your favorite director?
Just before the last words of Eyes Wide Shut we see their daughter apparently walk away with strangers.
Yes! I believe we talk about that more in our Deep Dive Episode on Eyes Wide Shut
Finally got to sit down and watch this whole thing in one take. Love the commitment to reviewal. Hes an inspiration to me in many ways and prestige will always be my favorite
Thanks for watching! We're glad its up to the standards of fellow Nolan fans hahaha
This is a really brilliant debut episode guys. Its obvious that a lot of work and research went into this, and you pull it off with style and grace.
Thanks! We did put a lot of work into it so we're glad you found it valuable!!
This perhaps the only rundown of Kubrick I’ve seen that goes into any detail about the man’s personal life. It really adds perspective. A true gem. Your lighting audio and personal chemistry are all great as well. Again. Great job.
I forget if we mentioned it during the podcast but if you wanna know more about Kubrick’s personal life, there’s a great book called Stanley Kubrick and Me written by Emilio D’Allesandro, who was Kubrick’s personal assistant for 30 years. It’s fantastic so I’d recommend. We also touch on Kubrick’s life and the days surrounding his death in our deep dive episode on Eyes Wide Shut as well. Again, thanks for the kind words! It’s comments like this that motivate us to keep making more episodes👍
@@DirectorDossiersJohnnyCruz so far I’ve listened to this episode, eyes wide shut, Jim Cameron and some of Scorsese. All great work. Good house cleaning music. :)
Woah, we're glad we're helping you stay productive hahaha
I got it on my first try and I know everything about this movie
Oh yeah? Well, I understood it and knew everything before I even watched the movie

The Party & the House...
Love this podcast series, keep up the great work. Really dig your format and style. It’s a great balance between a casual, light conversation and a real reverence and humility for the topic/subject at hand.
Thank you🙏 It’s comments like this that help motivate us to make more episodes, we’re your glad finding the show valuable! Who’s your favorite director we’ve covered so far?
@@DirectorDossiersJohnnyCruz All are great in their own right. But Martin S. and Kubrick would be my personal favorites! Would love to see you do Coppola, John Carpenter, Tarkovsky, and Oliver Stone among others, if I may humbly request ✌️
An episode on Coppola would be the most likely contender, especially with megalopolis coming up and we’ve already seen most of his movies
@@DirectorDossiersJohnnyCruz Nice!
Rapes of Graft? I love reGoin through these movies with you two. Great channel. How bout Altman next?
Hahahaha thanks! Would love to do an episode on Altman. I've seen nearly all his movies, my favorite being McCabe and Mrs. Miller.
@DirectorDossiersJohnnyCruz Close. That's only his most perfect picture flick. My heart will always belong to Nashville, though.
Roger Ebert said that he felt like he knew more about people after watching Nashville. He was exactly right.
@DirectorDossiersJohnnyCruz Pauline Kael said she's never seen another movie she loved in quite this way. I've probably been watching this movie for longer than you've been alive, yet I never tire of it. Instead of being a reflection of an artist's ideas, a synthesis of a philosophy, it flows at the rhythm of life. Things bounce off of other things in ways that edify but not in a fixed way. It arouses orgiastically but not excessively. It satiates your palette with all the flavors of life but makes you even hungrier for everything great and terrible about living it. I agree with Pauline and Roger and must admit that a movie never made me love knowing people more than Nashville has.
Well said!
Up All Night with Robert Downey Sr!
It's about time someone noticed it in the background!
If you could only pick one decade of Scorsese movies - like the 1970s or 2010s for example, which decade would you choose?
1970s bc gangs of New York and Departed would not be included also Raging Bull would not be included which are all prob my top 3. Maybe in that order. Should I watch The Last Temptation of Christ? (Asking all fans)
Stanley Kubrick was assassinated by the Illuminati 666 days before January 1st, 2001: A Space Odyssey... the day he died March 7th, 1999 is day zero... 365 days in 1999 minus the 31 days in Jan and the 28 days in Feb and the 7 days in March gives you 299. year 2000 was a leap year which is 366 days. plus the first day of 2001. 299+366+1 equals 666... NOBODY MENTIONS THIS, INCLUDING THE CONSPIRACY WORLD...
10:00 the way Kubrick's brain works is... be scared to death of elite power...
i recently saw Fistful Of Dynamite and Once Upon A Time In The West for the first time, after having been a huge fan of Leone's other 4 major films... i think he is know my #2 favorite director behind Kubrick as all 6 movies are classics...
Love to hear it, It’s amazing how influential he was given he only made 6 movies
