Very nice Kyle. Love the little Holstein heifer or steer calf
Tha k you! That little Holstein showed his face for a quick moment to say hi
Just love your style, Kyle.
Wow, what a nice thing to say, thank you very much!
I wanted that easel for soooo long after seeing a friend use the soltek first version. Then Covid hit and nothing for 3 years. I went on to use my Strada, even if I felt out of love with it! The tripod is complicated, the box itself is super secure but still heavy… Anyway, here we are, early 2025, and out of the blue I received an email the easel is finally available! I broke the piggy bank, ordered a lot of pasta, then happily went to buy it! It’s on its way, cannot wait to receive it!
@@thebetterthird6402 congratulations! I did not know they were back on sale. I love mine. Please let me know how you like it when you get yours. It’s worth it! Now get back to googling pasta recipes lol!
@@kylemartinpaintings I saw your updated review! Since I’m an older ( let’s say mature! ) woman, I think I will be a bit less tough on it and hopefully not get broken parts before a long while!!
Thank you for this. The repairability of the wood ones are important. That metal one has just as many failure points but it would be so much more difficult to fix.
Thanks for letting us watching your plein air session today. Are you able to let me know about a link to Hensche's painting at this auction?
Nice job! I think it’s the most fun to paint vibrant flowers in the quiet of winter. Carry on…
Love this!
Loved watching that sky transform; love the hazy edge of the distant treetops; love that orange in the foreground- beautifully done!
Nice work, Kyle. 👍
What is your easel?
@@Kevinhawkinsart it is called the “take it easel”. I have tried many plein air setups and this is my favorite because it is sturdy, has a large surface for palette/supplies, and can handle an umbrella being attached to it. Beware the Beaufort easel which is a cheap knock off that is no where near as good as the take it easel
@ thanks I have tried several a few different easels. Is it easy to setup?
@ yes it’s very easy. Not the lightest, but I would take stability over light. I have a easel comparison video from this past month that shows the setup
@ thank you. Love your under painting. I still don’t understand colorist methods with under painting. Maybe one day.
@ it’s a fun hunt to be on. Check out the Henry Hensche pdf on color study for some fun ideas. I don’t use his concepts 100^ like man do, but it gives some ideas for starting
Stop painting on stamp size canvas
@@jimjotka2187 agree, everyone should stop doing that
French easel made in France is the best
But I bought it about 50 years plus ago they made stuff better back then
Regular wooden paintbox with a quarter inch screw in it full attached to your tripod then you have your paints in it
8:11 a.m. Thanks Kyle and Corbin. This is a mood-lifter on this cold winter morning. As soon as I get back from Madcity, my paints and brushes are coming out! I'm inspired. Thanks for sharing your life and ideas with us all!!
And what's the name of the big easel at 17.20 Mark and what companies make them?
@@nbinghi it is called the artpro easel artproeasel.com/collections/easels-only
So what is the name / brand of the first tripod tray and what is the name of the opening tray at the 12.40 time stamp?
Enjoyed this 'visit' with you. Always impressed with your work but even more impressed with your overall approach to life in general. I hope I can make that evening dinner discussion meeting with you, Anne and I at Al Anderson's place happen. Here's to an enjoyable and successful 2025.
Happy new years Kyle! I Can’t wait to see what 2025 brings for U and your family! Blessings for a wonderful year 🙏
Is this easel sturdy in wind? Was thinking of going Julian full size box easel for plein air, although it's heavy to carry, I reckon it would stay steadfast in the wind. I'd also like to paint larges scale too, how large a canvas do you reckon this easel holds? It's such a pain to find the right fit haha
@@mols415 it is hard to find the right fit. I have tried most easels. This Soltek 2.0 is nice but is a little short for my purpose. I think I painted 18x25” on this easel and I’m sure you could get up to a 24x36 on it. Since I made this video, I ended up breaking a piece off of this easel. My favorite easel, that accepts all sizes from 6x8” to 36x48” is the take it easel. Second choice is a French easel, I use a Mabel but have had a jullian , just make sure it is the beechwood version and not the cheaper ones. I posted a video in the past month that talks all about my favorite easels, take a look there and let me k is what you think
@@kylemartinpaintings Thank you, you've been more than helpful! Hope you have a wonderful new year :)
The painting is beautiful, good job Kyle
hey, were you using a gopro that day? and by the way it looks really cool, I'm thinking of painting my dad's tractor blue, and it was very inspiring to see your video
Well done, Kyle. Well done.
I am inspired by your adaptability-you don’t let snow or distance or crowds or a toddler stop you from doing what you love ❤️ Thanks for bringing us along!
Thanks for the beautiful demo and museum tour!!! Have a very merry Christmas 🎄. Also Violet has a great “eye” :) for art!
Thanks for being so honest Kyle!
Where did you grow up skating?
Traditionally, it's called a Gloucester Easel, built that way for winds and for straddling rocks on the coast. Very stable.
Those of us who do Plein air paint appreciate a sturdy easel. Just an idea but if u decide not to use that new easel do a promo where u gift it to someone. A first time artist or more of a hobbyist would probably use it and be ok with it.
I bought a French easel and after two uses realized I'm studio painter.
..good, honest clinique Kyle..thanks..had not heard of the company..😮
Hey pal with the title of this video in mind my heart goes out to you. I remember those challenges and difficulties well. I imagine you've had more success than I did. Continued good luck!
What beautiful contemporary approach to painting this classic tractor!
Very nice. Love the snow shadows especially, and the sky reflecting in the snow.
It looks like you arbitrarily made seven lines, but it sounded like you had purpose on where the line go. Can you explain how to determined where to draw these line? In any case, the painting came out real nice. Thanks for the video.
Nice painting! I saw you make the grid. Then I saw you make the painting. But I didn't see any relationship between the two. More explanation and demonstration of the relationship?
There are no rules in painting.
@@frankpainter2203 only ones that are meant to be broken
totally reminds me of andrew wyeths more gestural work. The intitial sketch was very impressive those lines sure do the trick you should do a deep explanation of this concept. thank you
Nicely done, Kyle.
Beautiful 👏 👏 👏
@@barbhayden3469 thank you Barb, have a great weekend!
This is a beautiful painting! Love it! Question about the grid. You put in the diagonal lines first. Are you putting them in random locations? Do you put them in the same location every time? Or are you putting them in based on diagonals you're seeing in your subject? Thanks Kyle!
@@MichaelWurmJr thank you! I put them in with some consideration to where the diagonals are in the subject. But sometimes they don’t line up, so while it is considered, sometimes it comes out random. One thing that might help with getting started with a grid is to get a clear piece of plexi glass or some other clear window (clear cd jewel case etc) and draw a grid on it with a permanent marker. Then you can view nature through this viewfinder and the forms of nature will ‘snap to grid’ after moving it around. Andrew loomis covers this in his write up of asymeturical composition and Kevin Macpheraon covers it in his dvd as well. I learned it from the loomos book back in design school
@@kylemartinpaintings Amazing! This is so helpful Kyle. I'm really interested to give this a try! I've seen this method before and I just didn't quite understand so this has been great! Thank you!
I like your paintings, but the video speed is a bit too fast to appreciate the brush strokes. Thank you for sharing.
Did you try slowing down the playback speed (in settings)?
Lol thanks, ai was unaware of that feature. @CC-hc6bl
What’s the cost?
@@davidesparza5333 I viewed their site yesterday and saw that the Soltek 2.0 is sold out. I don’t know how many they sold but they were hardly available at all. I paid $679
Amazing. Love how vibrant and lively it looks with the streaks of colour. Also, the focus on values, that's great to see start to finish.
Hi Kyle, can you speak to the use of the purple under painting? I appreciated your discussion of the value study and how you used the value chart. Few tutorials address that - especially taking a B&W photo to compare to the study. Your painting's details are hard to see in the video, so I took a screenshot of the final painting. I then could see it in my gallery and enlarge it to see all the fine brush strokes that define subtle details. So, brilliant! Could you share who the artists that inspire your style? I am learning so much watching you paint. Thank you for sharing your wonderful gift.
Another excellent teaching! Thanks
❤❤❤
I really enjoyed watching your technique. It looked like uou blocked in the whole canvas with a palette knife, and then finished with wide brushes. Could you include you materials and list your palette colors in future videos? Thanks for the great lesson.
@@juliepekarske8302 thank you! With the winter coming up I will have time to make a video about my palette colors and other supplies. The brush I used for this was a size 16 bright Powercryl from Jerry’s. I do have a supplies list on my blog if you want some reading on that you can view www.kyle-martin.blogspot.com it is under a workshop post from spring 2024. Have a great evening
what a beautiful collection you have there, congratulations Kyle, you have a lot of talent and dedication in what you do!
Oh that light!!!! Well done!!!❤
What a beautiful painting! The yellow toning of the canvas was such a good choice. The whole thing just glows.
This is a beautiful painting. I can see why it garnered so much attention. THE LIGHT!! Wow. I'll take any video from you, but I do appreciate videos where you talk a bit more about your process ... what you're doing, why you're doing it, etc.
