The original Retrogames company. We began as the first magazine dedicated to games collectors way back in 1995, and in the proceeding twenty-nine years we've grown into the biggest , craziest, games shop on the planet. No longer concerned by what he looks like, Jace (our founder) has finally agreed to share some of his insights and retro finds on this channel.

Retrogames started as the worlds first Retrogaming magazine way back in 1995, filled with reviews and analysis of rare games consoles and hard to find videogames. In 1998 our website became the first place you could buy console and computer games on the internet and in 1999 we launched our own London retro shop. Staggeringly it took another twenty years for us to finally launch our own UA-cam channel.
With 30,000 games for sale it's always fun to browse on our website!
Even better, if you want to sell your own games collection, then we would love to take a look and price what you have. Just email sales@retrogames.co.uk

Whered you get the giant one?
It was in Nakano City, Tokyo
Hiya Jace. Loved the show and the characters make me smile. I had never seen that Playstation car chase game before. I wonder if it came out before or after the Driver game. A friend of mine had the original Philips CDI thingy but the only decent game I remember was some tennis game. It was at a time when there seemed to be more full motion video than actual gameplay but then Doom came out and all was saved! Had a good week and see you next time.
Yes, tennis was great on cdi, not sure doom ever came out for it tho. That racer made me think Driver too, which I loved. Did you ever play the San Francisco one, that was brilliant. And thanks so much for giving the characters some love, I was starting to think everyone hated them 😀
@retrobloke I did play it on the PS3. It wasn't bad. I liked the Bullet car chase in it just like the film.
Not the best. Albatros (especially the ball2) by Alberici was the gold standard built with coinop grade components and a wide base.
ooh, huge thanks for your valuable comment! I have never ever found one of those, I had to look it up. Maybe was it USA only? not sure it made it to the UK, need to check one out now though! looks cool. 😎
I keep moisture capture cartons near my collection, helps to keep the magnetic media in good condition. Or else put a dehumidifier on occasionally.
yes, dehumidifiers are great. I think some of the collections we’ve come across have been stored outside in a shed - cruelty to floppies! I’ve seen hard crystals of oxidisation on some discs, you can literally chip them off like little stones 🤮 the wonders of fungus I guess!
Don't worry about 'mods'. Very easy to remake a copy. I have endless amounts of floppies, and if any start going bad you can clean the surface of the disk. Sadly on the odd occasion the disk is too far gone. There has to be some company that will make a huge batch of new floppies as I'm sure they would sell quickly. I asked TDK but they politely said no. All my tape games I have backed up on high quality chrome cassettes. Great video! Nice to see atari getting some attention. And thanks for my recent order, I look forward to purchasing some of your other games, especially some of your rare ones.
Awesome, thanks so much Mark. So you have had success cleaning floppies, that’s good to hear. I’ve watched a lot of videos about it, taking discs apart, soaking them in washing up liquid, haven’t been brave enough to try. if this works though, then the data on these discs is much more robust than I thought
@retrobloke its amazing how much passion some collectors have for this hobby, restoration of the software and hardware, there seems to be more love now for 8 bits than there ever was! I enjoy the repair side of Atari hardware. And its thanks to nice fellas like you that helps to keep it going!
@@tharkthax3960 love it, thanks so much!
USA Racer looks great, NFS eat your heart out! Maniac Mansion does indeed look funny😂 love that horse voice😂 Yeah I never saw the appeal of Megaman either. Mazeball looks(or sounds) like one very expensive headache😬
It is so much better on ps1 than ps2, I should have made more of a point of that!
new subscriber, loving the content and your enthusiasm
Fantastic! Thanks so much for joining the madness 😝😂
Good Jason Thanking your time making the show . I’m Afraid I’m jumping in to comment on the game boy - is it missing the super rare red and blue headphones ? Love the Beer belly had that on the c64 back in the day - can’t remember the original developer, us gold maybe . Any thoughts on doing a mini show on the top 10 joysticks of the day and the viewers thoughts ? Competition pro all day for me Thank you again
That is so kind, thank you as ever. You’re all mad for still watching it 😂🤣
Good morning Jace Thanks for the quick fire show today . Damn those packing boxes 📦 I hate them for displaying - I have zx81-acorn versions sat in the loft . Any back Friday deals ? 😂 Is that your lad doing the talk over for sir Clive 😂
Hey Russ, hope you slept well after that crazy night you just had!! 😆
I only just saw the rest of your message! No black Friday here!!!! And it was me doing Clive, it started well, then I slipped into me ;o)
@ I understand I’m low on the pecking order . It’s the season of good will
Toilet Trees 😂 Day Of The Tentacle - what a game, never seen a box like that before. Greg Wallace 😂 well played 🎉 looks like an ok game but yeah why nude?😂 That Gameboy was luvvely
Couldn’t believe I managed to squeeze Greg Wallace into the show - timed perfectly! 😂
Beer Belly Burt. That's quite funny as I think I've bumped into him before down the pub a few times 😂 That is the mintest game boy I have ever seen buddy. Very nice 👌
Next time you see him, tell him to put some clothes on!! 😆
Those point and click PC games definitely had a look and feel like nothing else.
I miss them. They took a lot of time tho, as you’d always get stuck. These days with google I bet you can find solutions for even the most obscure titles.
Another great video. That beer belly game. I swear it's programmed by the same guy who did ghost chaser on the atari. A bit like Bruce Lee/zorro/conan...it uses the same engine in all there games...a cheap way to flog the same product. Anyway brilliant stuff my friend. Excelsior
Hey, thanks for watching! Beer belly Burt is actually by Frank Cohen, who did a load of the Americana stuff, mainly C64. He is American I think, maybe you know cohens towers? It was big in the US, and we did get a UK cassette release, rare though. www.retrogames.co.uk/013169/Atari/Cohens-Towers-by-Databyte Like you, I always thought Bruce Lee and Zorro were by the same guy as they are so similar, but actually they’re not.
That Marvin conversation at the start looked riveting Jace🤖! Oh controversial cover version of "Look at that Manual" indeed.🎵 I only played Day of the Tentacle a few years back on PS4 but had a great laugh with it, even nabbing the Platinum.🐙🏆 Great show hope you have a good weekend!🍀
Thanks so much PJ, I should send Marvin your way for a holiday 😆 I forgot tentacle made it to PS4, I do love those games.
Great show as always, Jace. Nice minty things this week 😊
Oh yes Adam, minty fresh like me 😆
Great! Now I really want to know how many video games there are! I won't sleep now. So thanks for that 😂 That is a very pretty Gameboy 😮
I think 1.7 million was a pretty awesome educated guess, it’s close enough anyway 😀
Happy Thanksgiving from America.
And happy thanks giving to you Billy! Would love to be over there and experience it for real one day.
I'm quite impressed that you think you could come up with a top 10 list for the CDi Jace🤣 don't think I could manage it having had the misfortune to buy one🤣 I don't get Megaman in any form, does nothing for me but most seem to love it Awesome Gameboy, remember getting mine from Toys r Us Marvin😍👍
Second mention of Marvin, seems he is missed. 😆 Or his prizes are anyway! Yes, ten cdi games is tough, but I’ve got a couple of customers who really love the format, collect nothing else! all I can think is they have a lot of knowledge 😂 7th guest was the killer ap that sold it at the time I think. Also, thanks for agreeing on mega man.
I've never seen Day of the Tentacle packaged like that before. Was it some sort of store exclusive?
Thanks for watching. I think it was released globally but just for the very initial batch. It’s incredibly rare, someone paid 750 for a much scruffier one on eBay recently.
That is a minty game boy you don't see too many in that condition. I must say I have one of those new spectrums but purely so I can see the box/logo on the shelve. Never been a big speccy fan lol
Thanks for watching Peter. I would have sent you a real ZX Spectrum box, I’ve got a few spares! 😆
Great episode, very interesting , I only have the Donkey Kong 2 multi screen in my collection (also the modern Super Mario Bros and legend of Zelda ones but I guess they don’t really count) I don’t remember them being really popular in school, most people seemed to have the table top games like ‘MunchMan’ and ‘invader 1000’ , then jumped to the micro computers. I like these special ‘themed’ episodes you have been doing lately, it’s like a cross between a history lesson and ‘show and tell’ and it works well due to the enormous amount of things you can pull from stock it’s always going to have something not often talked about or demonstrated but I was going to complain that there was no “look at that manual” when you opened BlackJack but you redeemed yourself with the shaw and the bridge ladies clip.
Almost forgot, you might like to know that my son and I watched the video in the morning an I heard him singing the “My names Shaw and I like bridge” song to himself a couple of times later in the day.
@@juboblerob That is fantastic, say hi to your Son from me, who'd believe my little bouts of madness in my cramped office could spread my bizarre thoughts to the youth of today!! Thanks so much as ever to both of you for watching, I kind of do like this focusing on one thing occasionally, though this video started well it's been the most unpopular of the series so far - sadly. I think maybe G&W is done as a subject for many, but I still can't get enough of them. As I've said before I think, I had Invader 1000 as a kid, just loved it, it takes so long to ramp up the difficulty, you think you've got everything under control up to about 850 points then BAM, mayhem ensues - genius or tedious when you have restart, the jury is out on that! 😆
Every time I click on the link for this website I get a 500 internal server error :( Edit: I sort of figured it out. Frustrating I have to clear cookies every time I switch from homepage to search results though
This is so weird, you're not the first person to have this issue, but it always works for me, on my PC, on my Mac, on my phone. It's so strange. Sometimes it takes me to a page which says 'Are you sure you want to leave UA-cam' first, then you click yes and it goes straight to the site. I've added another URL link at the top of the text, which works fine for me too, so hard to know what's going wrong here, as the site is fine. You could just type retrogames.co.uk in any browser and you'll get there too. Really sorry for the hassle though - technology - it was better when it was all tapes and floppy discs! 😆
Enjoyed looking at those and hearing your feelings towards peoples misuse of maths equipment regarding their ownership. Terrie came into the kitchen and said “hi Jay” as she thought we were on a video call earlier…… 🤙🏼
Haha 😝 it’s like I’m in your house! Thanks for watching buddy. Not sure these would be your bag!
A great selection of Game and Watch Jace. Apart from one I had never heard of any of the others. Great condition too! Lovely stuff
thanks so much Justin
Took me years to collect the full game & watch collection plus the table tops crystal units and variants like bass fishing.i have helmet and the cleaner uk headache all boxed.far too expensive when i was a kid.only got them in jewellery shops where i stayed.Just change the reflective film, polariser will be fine, makes a huge difference.you have no lcd bleed there.
Thanks for watching, and well done on completing the set. I only completed mine because I did it twenty years ago and the games were so much cheaper then. Is the YM901 included in the original 60? I never remember. I tried to change a polariser once but it didn’t help so never tried again 😃
personally i would say the grand prix prize is part of the set as its a game and watch.i also have the stationary sets,(yellow and white)gold golf disk and gold punch out. From your video your polarisers looked fine.just change the reflective sheet as that what takes all the sun damage and makes it look crap as the condition of your units are great.
Hello from a wet Saturday morning in Blighty . Thank you for the Nintendo show - I do enjoy the special episode as each format . Maybe a Jeff minter some day eh ❤
Ooh, that’s an idea. A bit of Jeff, wouldn’t it be great to get him on the show. I would like to do a speccy special at some point, I think the usual mixture is good, with the occasional special. The Atari 800 one went well in the end compared to regular episodes.
Wow, some tasty stuff this week Jace, I imagine some of this collection has made its way into yours surely 🤔 That Tetris game certainly looks authentic, I thought it looked really good😍 My favourite piece was the DKJ table top, what a beauty, I used to have the panorama one and loved that Used to have Blackjack too, I like that one The highlight of the episode though had to be a glimpse of Shaw and the bridge ladies 😍 What a treat! Awesome stuff Jace👍
I know, it breaks my heart that Shaw is no longer with us. Every time I use his clip I just hope he wouldn’t mind, or maybe his family would like to think how fondly we think of him. Honestly, I love him, he’s the Dad I always wanted 😆
Great show Jace, I never got to own any of the Nintendo Game & Watch despite always wanting my. Closest I ever got was a simple little F1 LCD game but hey I gotta admit I loved it just the same, it was a huge upgrade from my little wind up F1 game where your car was attached to a piece of plastic and the opponents were all fixed to a round rotating disc😂
Ooh, I have that pocketeer though, I love that one, blew my mind as a kid that you could have a wind up racing game 😃 do you still have it?
@@retroblokewish I did, must've got rid when I got my LCD game, such a shame as that would've been something special to keep.
@@Tetlee I feel a pocketeer special coming on! 😆
Hand held goodness I knew you’d get mega nerdy and excited on this episode buddy - how many t shirt changes did you need 😂 But even the Tetris version was pretty special . Being a decimal baby also I never really caught these when younger - I do remember the rich snotty kids had donkey kong in the playground, and I remember a football smashing him in the face when he was playing and he dropped it and cracked the LCD - I did laugh - no I didn’t kick the ball 😊 Sweet show my friend 🕹️❤️
I’m always mega nerdy 😂 that’s a sweet game and watch memory. It’s the common ones like DK and Mario Bros that people always buy quickest, just to relive that playground joy. Thanks as ever Russ 🥰
@ hugs as ever
Interesting video about the game & watch. Never owned or played them, but I enjoyed seeing a few. I kept wondering what the empty slot in each box was. I was going to ask in the comments. Then the last game had batteries there, so it all made sense.
It was unusual back then for games and toys to include batteries so I think it was a huge selling point. I love the stickers too, it makes me wonder how many kids have actually eaten watch batteries 😂
I really enjoyed that mate and it's nice to see something a bit different. Especially a subject I know very little about. I have been playing Tetris forever all week and one of the videos talks about Tetris Junior. There's definitely some useful information on their including all about the guy that made the game initially and ripped off Tetris. They then got wind of it and made their own. I wonder if yours is the rarer first edition not made by Nintendo? That would almost certainly be rarer and probably look a bit odd compared to the Tetris official version. In any case it's a pretty awesome piece mate.
Thanks Oli, I need to check that out. If only I owned it myself, then I’d get it DNA tested 🤣 I wonder what other proto games are out there we still dont know about 🤔 I never thought this Tetris would see the light of day after so long.
Starting to get cold over here. My #hc44 mug is gonna come in handy!
So make me feel bad Billy, how cold is it over there?
Not really bad. Just enough for a good fire in the fireplace. About a low of 35 tonight in Georgia. Close to zero for you Brits.
@@beezball similar here right now, though blowing a gale today.
Very nice video Jace, not too knowledgeable on these handhelds educational as well. But can we resurrect a "Look at that Manual!"🎶🙌🎶 From time to time again.😉 Have a good weekend boyo.🕹🏁🍀
haha, I did think about it when I showed the manuals PJ 😆 Next time, especially for you!
@retrobloke It's OK buddy it's burnt into my mind now so just the mention of a manual from you and I say it myself anyway haha.👁📜🙌🎶
Another great show Jace. What's your thoughts on the new releases taking place now? I. e the retro spectrum & Comodores etc with Hdmi etc
Thanks Peter. I’m not really a fan of the remakes, but I can understand the convenience, and if it grows interest in the scene it’s a good thing, but.. I doubt it does. More likely a cynical cash grab from dedicated collectors who insist on having everything on their favourite format. Do you use them? collect them? I kind of hankered after the PC Engine one, but that was produced by NEC I think . If they’re remakes made by the original manufacturer like the snes and PlayStation mini I’m much more keen than third party ones. I do have a spectrum next tho 😂🤣 so I’m a hypocrite too!
@retrobloke I have a couple but purely out of convenience I. e. Built in hdmi connections etc and I managed to get one of Analogues N64 which I am looking forward to receiving. I wouldn't mind getting a Snes with Hdmi either.... As long as i could use my wildcard unit with it lol.
@@peterredwin4617 I am tempted by the analogue 3d but want to see some videos first on how it runs. I think the analogue stuff is a bit different to the Amiga mini or THE64, they go the extra mile and the materials and build quality is just amazing
@@retrobloke yeah it's a bit pricier but they do seem to put the effort in. I am also considering their duo console but I was gutted I missed out on their super Nt.
Absolutely love Game & Watch. I started collecting again a few years back. Still have my original Donkey Kong jr. Bought DK 2 and Manhole. I did have Bombsweeper as a kid. Great game back in the day, still on the look out so when funds are released and you still have it, may dip in. One thing about that Blackjack, that was the last G&W sold in Japan. They didn't get anymore after that
I did not know that about Blackjack, that’s amazing. Bit of a slow burner of a game too, wonder if that’s the reason.Wow!
And so you should say Mario Brothers, because that's its blooming name. When people say Bros instead of Brothers, my bloid boils 😤 I never had, or think I ever even saw, a Game and Watch back in the day. But then again, my Speccy was welded to my hands back then 😂 The Donkey Kong Jr tabletop is sexy, I'll say that 👍
Actually, Fiona in the office winds me up with Mario Bros and Smash bros, she always calls it Br-oh-s, emphasis on the o sound. Grrrr. I also only saw Snoopy Tennis, Cement factory and DK double screen back in the day, but in the early nineties I was finding about 10 game and watches a week at car boot sales - so someone was buying them when they came out 😄
Well said Bro 😁
@@Tetlee 🤣
Hello Jace. Fantastic show. So much Nintendo goodness
thanks as ever Adam!
Great special Jace, interesting to have a walkthrough the g&w collection. That version of Tetris looks very interesting. The pinball one did look nice I thought.
That DK jr is something special ❤
Thanks Richard, bit of a favourite subject for me this one 😆 I’d love to find that Tetris game in one of the collections that comes our way - what an impossible find!
Another great show, liked the MSX 2, orange really is the new black. The Robocop hologram was cool, I still have the “This Property is protected by Robocop” sticker from my C64 disc version, never peeled it off the backing and stuck it on anything, just blu tacked it to my wall ( probably a bit strange but it kept it in good condition) The Robocop phone game reminded me of one of the Saturday morning TV shows where you could phone in to the show and play a simple video game on screen by shouting ‘up’ ‘’down’ ‘fire’ to the presenter. Going to go and think of some nostalgic memories now.
Ah yes, that sticker often annoys me because people had a tendency to stick it inside the lid 😆 Of course I never tried ringing that Robocop number - maybe someone is still there managing players 😂🤣
Thank you UA-cam, Advert was spot on. What a great channel.
Fantastic, thanks so much Martin, I hope I can keep you entertained!! 😆
Nice video boyo, solid idea harnessing the power of fond memories/nostalgia Xmas wise, hope you get some intriguing ones thrown your way haha.🕹🙌🧠🎮🍀
Oh good, would love to hear some memories from your neck of the woods, I think a lot was very similar
Well that was a fun an educational old school gaming video Jace great job, apart from any promotion of harm to space Lobsters of course.⭐️🦞🕹🖖🍀
Haha, sorry about the space lobsters 😆
Nice show Jace. I love all the characters you've introduced. The coughing man made me smile. They obviously tried to make the Gameboy more than just a games machine...it wasn't lol
Thanks so much Justin 😀 I like the coughing man, though sometime think I’m only making this stuff to amuse myself 😆 Totally agree about the Gameboy.
My first gaming memory was me hanging out in our basement and a handyman came to do some repair. I was playing duck hunt and was doing my best to show off how good I was the whole time... I wasn't very good.
Haha, love it, I know exactly the feeling! Hanging out in the periphery of someone’s vision, hoping to amaze them by the game you’re playing. Takes me straight back to playing Kick off when my football mad uncle had come over to see my parents.
I had a piano black 3DS for a while. Must admit the new one in white looks pretty good.
I do love the 3DS, my favourite is actually the Snes styled one, I have one but it’s too beautiful to actually play tho 😆
I'll be watching this tonight Jace, at least it's still the weekend...just. Oh and thank you for my games. I was very pleased with them!
Awesome, thanks so much Justin, was nice to see you on the site 😆
oooh good video
Hey, thanks so much!
It is the memories….. nostalgic wafts that the things you used to play, want, own or think about a lot bring. I spent more time thinking about Trans-Am than playing it on that spectrum. I have a clear memory of playing flight Simulator with you in our bed room (ZX 81?) where although you were very much the only person allowed to be the pilot I felt as much a part of the game as you, you made me part of the game bro…. Good show but please, less A.I. And more puppets. 🤙🏼
Lovely comment buddy 😆 we never got all the cups on trans am, never got the three parts of the key of ACG, never got Eric his report card, but I’m glad, because the possibilities are still sitting there, forever waiting to be achieved - long live the games we never completed and the lifetime of memories they gave us! Also, the AI are not AI, they are 100% digital puppets!

Any good games ? Fall of the game market ! Its Atari ! Is not computer, its state of mind. If Child was bad, parent buy Atari.
ouch, really? I think in 1979 parents weren’t buying 800s for their kids. I think it was the confused middle class thinking they needed it, then kids taking it over to play games 😆
