The same reason he thinks it's American chestnut.
Man why you putting water on the wood?
Keep fighting!
Looking forward to it. Good luck to you. 😊
Hi Chris, my name is Dennis from Australia i love your vids and your great personality
This log could make a beautiful curved bench, something similar to an old fashioned "love seat". This could be used a round a fire pit, with three of these benches around the pit Legs at each end and one in the middle of the bench.
Glad to see you are maintaining the cemetery. Have you noticed any unmarked graves (indentations)?
not really. when it's really dry i can see what looks like old foot prints of posibble foundations. driiled threw a few with the augar on the bobcat. soft bricks
Good video Chris. Something to keep in mind...your late fall is likely to be early-winter at Hud-Son. The Oscar 52 we did a video with was built like a tank.
Thank you. By chance are you guys going to the Paul bunyun show in Oct in Ohio? My wife actually got time off approved. So will be there a day early and leaven Monday. Going to do some extra stuff at the state park.
@@chrissheathewoodguy We are going up to Boonville NY for Woodsmen Field Days but not to Bunyan.
The first one anyway
Sure looks like red oak but hard to tell in video
@@atexinc.5472 white oak is what it is.

Why not make some bowl blanks out of the stump?
I'll be cutting the cookies 3 inches deep. if some one wants them for blanks they can still do that. There is more value in the cookies. like I said if anyone wants some contact me. there is plenty of log sections that would do just fine for turning as well.
@@chrissheathewoodguy You are a good man, thank you for the video.
Such a rare tree. Why did you kill it?
It died
What kind of tree, an American chestnut?
yes
Hard to tell without seeing a leaf but looks like a maple to me.
That's some nice and rare wood!
I'll sell some. But i'll keep most of it. my plains are to build two tables and benchs for the tables and serveral serving tables for our Historic log home. the floor is chestnut on both floors.
They look more like chestnut oak chestnut leaves are longer and slimmer.
at first that's what i thought, but i have a friend with the exstension office stop by and he confirmed it as American chestnut . I did cut down a chestnut oak a few years back and use the wood allot. you can tell the difference color for sure and the end grain view really tellls the difference. we do have two other trees near by that sofar are doing well. not as big around but taller.
I would agree my friend it’s chestnut oak or English oak
Really beautiful ❤
Are they both dry?
@kenroythompson918 down to 15 % I just did those to keep in the house. I have 4 logs to mill up. One is done. They all will need drying.
@@chrissheathewoodguylove those two pieces but I need to give you a call I am looking a walnut cookie and a maple cookie for a content build for my channel.
Tim swears by them. He has to have his on while sawing
@Twobrothersoutdoors I'm going to look into them. I'm looking at losing two sections of my lungs. The heat is killing my literally.
@@chrissheathewoodguy our thoughts and prayers 🙏 are with you!
A couple weeks ago, Two Brothers Outdoors tested an dust mask.
I saw that. I'm not sure that that would meet my needs. I was hoping a manufacture might reach out that specializes in that need.
I love mine
Really pretty❤ good job
What a stunning piece! I like the hairpin style legs.
The legs seem to be very popular. being that people often have other pieces that have them and like that they match other items.
As someone recently said "Fight!"
God bless you❤
God bless you🙏🙏
Hickory would’ve been my first guess as well. Have a lot of hickory in my shop that looks very similar to that. My second guess is Sweetgum.
The lumber is black gum.. just sold the benches today. great looking lumber.
Got a good pic of the bench?
@@kenashton32 this is the only pics /video i made.

Hmm, reminds me of a job I have to do. We've been fighting some invasives down at the orchard field and after 5 years or so of brush hogging 3 or 4 times a year we have got rid of most. The worst of the ones we have to control is carolina horse nettle.
Rhhhhhkkkdkdkmdmdmdmm
Hickory
nope
I clicked on this because I saw the word "redgum" and then heard you calling trees "gumtrees", being Australian I was curious but looking at what you cut down it does not look like a eucalypt to me and definitely not a "redgum". I live next to River redgum forests and when you cut them, even young trees, the timber is red, and the sawdust is red. The bark of your trees does not look like any gumtree that I know either.
I believe these are sweet gum trees. Liqudambar styrasaflora. Forgive my spelling it's been a few years. I can see my Forestry instructor shaking his head. Lol The thorny balls are often labeled porkypine eggs. Oh , if using for fire logs you'll get more heat trying to split this wood than burning.
commercialforestproducts.com/american-4-4-red-gum-lumber/
directnativeplants.com/product/black-gum/ this another type of gum tree we have. i don't see it as much.
Will you clean out the inclusions and epoxy or leave as is?
@kenashton32 I've done some epoxy. I've done some with glass tops and open but with the wood sealed.
That maple turned out better than I thought it would. Our gopros overheat...we solved it for one by taking the battery out and using an external battery, the other one I try not to film long clips, 5 minutes or so max.
i'm hopping a 360 is something i can swing in the near future. i use money from members and the monthly pay out to cover stuff like that.
Any Husky is as long as you keep a sharpe chain on it !
Chris, invest in a sharpener for your sawblades. It will save you money in the long run.
👏👏💪💪👌👌
Have you considered the damage your doing to the forest?
How am I damaging the forest?
Your having too much fun!
Break it in before you start tweaking the carb
How long would you break it in before tuning?
@@chrissheathewoodguy I don't know, it just sounded good 🤔 Just kidding. Rule of thumb for small engines is about 10 hours. I would say you're probably already broke in if it needs tweaking....do it
Nice saw. I hate that I like my first ever Husqvarna. Hah!, I'm not the only one who had the oil down the pant leg from the Stihl caps!
Old age Chris, can't escape it! 😂
Why is the video backward?
Cell phone
Totally wasted our time for 15 minutes saying nothing so I went to the next video
thanks for watching. sometimes things don't turn as well as you planed.
yes

Your a good bit North of me, I’m in SW Missouri, how well does your Kiln heat up and dry in your winter months?
As for the heat in the winter around 85 to 90 if i shut it up tight and it's really sunning and temps are above the 40's . But the winter dries stuff faster and the humitiy dropes way down. If i load the kiln up in say late november or december I don't take the wood out till after late may . depends when i can get the heat above 130 ish. for 24 hrs
@@chrissheathewoodguyYes, winter is great for air drying here too.
