Приєднався 30 кві 2019
As we enter the autumn of our years, this channel is a record of us, Dave and Jane, by us, for us, to chart our rather sedate adventures on our BMW R1200GSA motorbike, to help us remember our camping trips and to allow us to watch as our various projects down the field unfold and come to fruition... or not.
We have a small flock of a rare breed sheep the Leicester Longwool and over the coming years we hope to build it up to help strengthen the numbers of this wonderful old breed of sheep. Jane is learning to spin and the fleece from our sheep will be used to make yarn for her to knit, crochet and weave.
As well as trying to become a little more self sufficient and growing our own organic vegetables and eating our own home produced meat and eggs we hope to produce flowers for us to cut.

Our video journal of the trials and tribulations of daily life down the field.
We have a couple of kunekune pigs (originally from New Zealand) for rotavating and clearing up our land, a starter flock of rare breed sheep, Leicester Longwool ewes which we are keeping for their wool and meat, and a young Herdwick tup. A small flock of hens including some rescued battery hens to supply us with fresh free range eggs.
We also have a couple of native breed ponies which we hope to learn to ride and drive.
We hope to grow our own vegetables, fruit and flowers and are trying to be as self-sufficient and organic as we possibly can.
Everything down the field other than the perimeter fencing is made from something we have repurposed, recycled or reused.
We have an Ashford spinning wheel and our learning to spin yarn with which we can then crochet or knit things from it.
When not busy pottering and coming up with ingenious solutions to everyday problems Dave trains his dogs

Awesome!
@@taiga.tomatoes thank you
Oh Dear!🤣🤣🤣🤣👌🐑🐑🐑
I will have ago as the end result looked great 🎉 Where do l buy the fleece from to start my project.
Is there a died chick behind?
Which company do you purchase the tag from? Any recommendations?
Hi! Trying to get in touch with you regarding a project I’m seeking help with, is there an email I could use to contact you?
Let’s go
Just come across your channel I too am a biker love the videos from a “normal” couple ( that’s meant in the loveliest way possible) not these 8k Hollywood bike videos that are not my cup of tea. Sub added keep up the good work ❤
Hi there, these are Soay sheep and Soay x Hebridean sheep
What breed of sheep are these.
Can anyone recommend anyone to get lovely long fleeces from please ?
This is really gorgeous!
@fancyfree8228 thank you
The lakes is my playground, I reckon you should treat yourselves to a satnav, the moneys you,ll save in unnecessary miles (petrol) it will pay for itself in no time 😂 the lakes wouldn't be as beautiful if it didn't rain ,well done to you both 👍
Got a spare sheep I could use lol
You got a spare sheep 🐑 lol
I have some icelandic fleece that I want to do something with. Since we're so new to sheep, I don't know the term tops. Is that just freshly washed & carded roving? I initially wanted to have sheep skin rugs made when we butchered, but the cost is prohibitive. So I'm now thinking of just shearing them prior to butcher. How has your rug held up? Do you walk on it or is it more for a seat cover?
Hello Jane and Dave..Very informative..Thanks❤
Where is this? This is not little glebe acres
hello. I've followed your process very carefully (thank you), but I've found the tops have felted, but not attached to the fleece below! Any suggestions as to what I've done wrong?
Hi, the only things we can think of, are firstly some fleeces are just like that, certain breeds certain condition fleece, so it could simply be the fleece isn't right, secondly it may be that early on in the process not enough time was spent on the rubbing in of the tops into the fleece. It takes a long time, when you think you've about done enough, do some more. A good indicator is if you can prise the tops off easily, or even at all, its not been rubbed in enough, before progressing to rolling, ensure that the tops have adhered to the fleece first. Other than that, sorry at at a loss.
@@DaveandJaneLivingTheDream I think you may be right about the fleece. I tried a smaller section of it, and that didn't work too well either. On the plus side, I have a nice large piece of felt! Thanks for getting back to me.
Looks great, but without skin or string involved and only the felt giving holding strength, how long will it last please? Does it not soon begin to fall apart?
@sii6531 our first one is going strong after three years with moderate traffic. They are reasonably sturdy once felted
@@DaveandJaneLivingTheDream Thank you Dave or Jane ✨
Great video, but how strong is it with no skin or threat? Does it not start to fall apart in a short time?
love love love
and it wont fall apart????? its exquisite! I am going to try this for sure! Except I have Romneys and Valais blacknose and crosses...will that work too?
I'm 😂 at your pleading with the sheep not to jump out. Mic sounds good, we can hear your internal monolgue, loud and proud 😂❤
Inside my head is a strange and wonderful place, shame it's leaking out for all to see
Thanks for that. I crossed this bridge quite by accident last week and wondered what it was. Nice to repeat the experience on UA-cam as I was also on two wheels.
How much top should I order for the under carriage of the rug?
May I have a link for box of tops please
This is amazing, did you wash the fleece at all before you started?
You don't wash prior, as it is a loose fleece. It'd felt and mix upside with right side up. It'd be a mess. Most of a fleece gets washed during the felting process, hence the tonne of wash liquid to start and during. Once you know you've nailed the felting and the fleece is a gooden. You can then wash it in a big trug, or bath tub. Then it's finally dry time. I make them for a living, they're hard work but worth it. Good luck! - Sheepfloof
Thank you. You make it look easy. Going to give it a try.
I bought this tent a few years back and only used it a couple of times. It was quite roomy and weather tight, but had a fatal flaw. The last time I attempted to erect it, it got horribly twisted and it took me two hours to put it up, helped by a friend, who is a chartered engineer., I lost faith totally and I am afraid to trust it again. The manufacturers were unable to reassure me and it has been in my store cupboard ever since. It is a shame because it is the right size and is well made. If anyone wants it, contact me and make an offer.
why don't you get a sidecar put on ?
Whilst many would appreciate the time it's taken to film and make a good quality video of you tagging, it doesnt show any close up's on WHERE exactly one should place the tag. Thankfully you said the lower part of the ear, as most people should be able to figure it out where, just by looking at the skin. A video showing the exact placement would have been better. Lovely sheep btw
Thank you for taking the time both to watch and to comment. I have some lambs that need tagging soon, I'll do another video that some may find useful.
Spam, spam and spam!!! My kind of camping!!! Keep up the great videos you two👍
Thanks, can't beat camping, motorbikes and spam. Appreciate you taking the time to comment
So Beautiful! Going to make one ❤ Bless
Leicesters are such a fun and special breed to me
How many hours did you roll it?
It probably took about 20 minutes worth of rolling
Is that cold water rinse?
so lovely, thank you for the video. love it
Thank you for sharing this great video 😊😊
I’ve a raw Leicester Longwool fleece I’d love to turn into a rug, but I’m afraid I’ll felt the curly locks into each other by mistake. How come the tips of yours stayed so separated? That rug is beautiful!
Ensure the cut side is up, (buts) felt with the roving ensuring that it only comes into contact with the buts. Good luck.
Hi, may i know what is your exact height? Just want to be sure before i decide to purchase the seat. Im 170cm
Hi, yes, I'm about 170 cms too and the seat has done me well
Very cool! You only roll it one way and that was enough for felting?
Thanks, yes, backwards and forwards, and it has always worked (so far)
I wish they were this little again!
I like the black and white effect. Sometimes I miss my spinning wheel. Maybe one day I will get one again.
I think you should. I love mine 😊
Did you wash the fleece first or is it raw with grease?
brilliant videos , is the blue spray on an alternative to dipping ?
Beautiful!
