Welcome to FRANKS BASS COVERS
& THANK YOU FOR SUBSCRIBING...
In the last 20 years or so, there were periods of time (months, years) I didn't even take the bass out of its case save for a few times to reminisce or spot play.
My new mindset is to enjoy something that long ago was so much a part of me.
So, I am putting together a small bass cover archive of songs and memories which I have enjoyed for various reasons throughout the years.
Influences in no particular order: Joe Osborn, Paul McCartney, Carl Radle, James Jamerson, Roger Glover, Berry Oakley, Nick Simper, John Deacon, Jack Bruce, Geddy Lee, Peter Cetera and every other bassist who laid down lines that made me mentally zero in on their talent.... ugh... too many to list.
All the best -
Frank

"LAYLA" - DEREK & THE DOMINO'S - FRANKS BASS COVERS & TAB
"LAYLA" - DEREK & THE DOMINO'S - FRANKS BASS COVERS & TAB
Album: Layla And Other Assorted Love Songs November 1970
BASS NOTES:
The album version is a bit sped up so I was fortunate to find a pitch corrected version to use.
The tab is very helpful but its not properly aligned as I would have liked it to be; that was the best I could do to sync it.
This is the third cover on the channel from this album; the other two are "Bell Bottom Blues", & "Tell the Truth"
This song is about George Harrison's wife, Pattie. She and Clapton began living together in 1974 and married in 1979
Layla was based on a book by a 12th-century Persian poet called Nizami about a man who is in love with an unobtainable woman. The song was fantastically painful and beautiful.
Duane Allman came up with the famous guitar riff and played lead with Clapton. Clapton wrote later in his autobiography that he and Allman were inseparable during the sessions in Florida; he talked about Allman as the "musical brother I'd never had but wished I did"
Derek and the Dominos formed after Eric Clapton, Bobby Whitlock, Carl Radle and Jim Gordon worked on George Harrison's first post-Beatles album, All Things Must Pass.
The band broke up when they tried to record a second album. Clapton and Gordon had a falling out in the studio, which ended the sessions and marked the end of the band

Beautiful song. Thanks for posting. Love it!
totally agree - although not on the short version the piano part was played by Bobby Whitlock and Jim Gordon (the drummer).

What the hell was that?
Good point. Thanks for the view and comment.

thank you Sean -
❤❤❤❤❤Yes If I can’t have you, 😂😂😂😂🎉🎉🎉🎉❤❤❤❤
My best virtual fan and friend... still..🎈
@ lol❤️
Have you got overdrive/distortion on there?
Hi - no, not on the RIC.. for most of the recent covers with the FENDER P, I have been using the CALINE CP-60; but it doesn't add anything much better with the RIC so what you are hearing is just the bass. Thank you for the view and comment!
@@FRANKSBASSCOVERS No worries, thanks for the reply. Cheers.
Sounds reel good i am enjoyed listenning it cool to eard the bass better than the original, well done
much appreciated 🎸as always... the full cover is linked here: ua-cam.com/video/1rz8juyZe9o/v-deo.htmlsi=h6gTr2D41WDXdspI
Always liked the Bass line in that song right from the time I first heard it on the radio📻😄 (and I think it was in the soundtrack of Saturday Night Fever) 🕺. Long time ago, but still a classic. 👍
Hi Sean - for me, I didn't connect on it until I listened carefully and realized to take some 'breadths" between each phrase. I was initially playing it "continuous" When the light bulb went off the bass line was much more closer to the record.. Thank you for the view and comment .. appreciate it! Here is the link to the full cover: ua-cam.com/video/1rz8juyZe9o/v-deo.htmlsi=h6gTr2D41WDXdspI

Awesome. 👍Love the way that Bass line compliments the vocals without getting in the way.
Hi Sean - I really appreciate that positive comment, thank you so much. Here is the link for the full cover- best! ua-cam.com/video/qGt25pFRpiA/v-deo.htmlsi=qtxhQNO1E785uzHQ
Amazing!

Thank you Frank.Excellent job on this bass line.
this one was a personal favorite for many years; just loved that bass line... thank you for the positive feedback... 🎵
Awesome 🎉🎉🎉❤❤❤❤❤
I thank you Ms. Connie
Frank, this is one of my favorites by The Stones. Never realized the amount of movement on Bill Wyman’s bass line. Some stamina required there. I know he favored short scale basses which he played almost upright. Nicely done Frank. You captured it well. Thanks as always for sharing your work.
Hi Frank - well that makes two of us, I have commented a few times how this bass line (for me) is so buried in the mix... is that what's really going on? I am very grateful for your ongoing support Frank -means a great deal to me... thx!
@@FRANKSBASSCOVERS Frank, I gave the tune a closer listen and your bass line appears to be as close as I could discern to what Bill played. Also, lightly researching Bill’s bass style he liked using chord tones and appeared to tastefully blend in behind the other instruments with a steady rhythmic feel. His bass tone (perhaps due to the short scale bass’s lack of tonal projection) sounds “hidden.” Good appropriate bass lines that work well within the Stones’ instrumentation. Just my opinion.
@@frankortega4280 thanks for the follow up and confirming the bass line -always appreciate your analysis.
Mate I really enjoy your playing but really wish you'd turn down the background music so we can actually hear the Bass. Lower notes are drowned out by the other instruments. If I wanted to struggle I'd just punch up the original on UTube. Otherwise, what's the point? 😕
Hi Sean, Thanks so much for watching and for taking the time to leave a comment-I really appreciate it! I definitely don’t want anyone to struggle to hear the bass, as it’s such a core part of the music. I understand where you're coming from, and I value your perspective. Sometimes, the short format doesn't capture the richness of the full covers. If you’re interested, I’d recommend checking out the full version here: ua-cam.com/video/xIMNuSdItbo/v-deo.htmlsi=taqkXo1l-3wQOZrB. I also recommend using headphones for the best listening experience, especially if you're playing along. When I record, I aim for a clean and balanced sound that avoids muddiness, which can distort the mix. But it sounds like I might have fallen short for your preferences on this one. I’ll take that feedback into account moving forward. I hope you’ll continue watching and sharing your thoughts-I truly enjoy the dialogue with viewers like you. Thanks again!
