SAP has the BEST Ruben!

We've bounced around but we used to always vacation in Wisconsin when we lived in Iowa. When many jobs went remote with covid, we decided to move to the Fox Cities. It's amazingly affordable, we were able to get a house on Lake Winnebago for cheap and it's just been incredible. There are festivals and events going on all the time, brews on bago, jazz fest, Porchapalooza. There's almost no crime, (we leave bikes out, garage doors open etc..) The wild thing to us, if this real estate existed in a place like Iowa (which is considered one of the cheapest places to live!), like the lake channel area going through downtown Menasha, all of the houses in that neighborhood would be >1 million dollars. Not here though!

WeatherVane, (particularly the country chicken biscuit meal) in Menasha is the best breakfast. Everything they have is good. ALSO, since moving here hands down my favorite restaurant is Big Pot, it's a Thai seafood boil restaurant.

Best nice restaurant without question is Carmella’s. Best burger in town is Cinder’s.

My recommendations shortlist: Solea's (the Menasha one that is very small is superior to the Neenah one) scrumptious Mexican food; they vary their menu over time with innovations taste tested at their Neenah location. Carmella's- Farm to table fare with a focus on Italian cuisine. Upscale yet casual. A bit pricey but fantastic food. Appleton, near the Fox River Mall. SAP brown bag and brunch - sister restaurant to Carmella's, 2 doors down. Breakfast/brunch, with the same attention to detail and freshness. Thai Ginger Bistro - excellent Thai food. They bring you out 3 different samples of the soup broths to try. Everything I've tried there is excellent. Yes they have Thai tea! Josef's Gyros and Kabobs- Soldier Square downtown Appleton. Hole in the wall that serves excellent gyros and other sandwiches and pitas.

1. Hop Yard - never tried 2. Parker John's - yes I like this place. Good barbecue. Good pizzas. 3. Fiesta Rodeo - I know where it is, by the Bulk Priced Food Shoppe, but have not tried it. Been going to Solea since it opened; on first name basis with everyone there. 4. The Bar - don't think I've ever been in one though I have a couple of gift cards for the place! Might try their Reuben as I love those. 5. Hotel Fremont - same never been. But if I go, definitely would try their Reuben. 5. Stroh's 5 Grub and Pub - Never go through Hortonville anymore since they moved Rt. 10. Never heard of it, sorry. 6. Beehive Barn and Grill - honestly never heard of this place ( it IS on the other end of Neenah from where I am) 7. City Limits - we used to live in Menasha and went here once. Disappointing. Know several people who also weren't impressed. 8. Field and Fire - we plan to try them on some special occasion soon. 9. Milwaukee Burger - been there a couple times both with and without husband; the burgers were great both times. 10 Kaukauna Coffee and Tea - haven't lived in Kaukauna since 2000; don't remember ever trying this place. 11. Two Brothers Family Restaurant - we tried this restaurant for breakfast when down in Oshkosh for some reason. It was decent; the service was good. Was years ago. 12 Cousin's Subs - I'm not a sub sandwich fiend. These are just ok. 13 - Mai's Deli - had stuffed chicken wings there a couple of months back. Been there a few times. The egg rolls are good because they don't cheap out on the filling. Hmong-style with bean threads and ground meat instead of 95% cabbage like most egg rolls.

I've always had a soft spot for Tom's Drive In and Mihm's in Menasha, as my family is from there. I grew up in Hortonville, and the Black Otter Supper Club was always a place people would talk highly of. Romy's Nitingale was another place the family would go to often. Have you eaten at any of these places?

I wouldn’t be too proud of this because the facts are that in 99% of the case when it comes to divorce the man is forced to continue mortgage payments or risk jail while he’s put out of the home by the law, quite often the Man is made homeless or forced to live in substandard accommodation and as a result of that often denied access to kids because he can’t afford suitable accommodation, this is something I wouldn’t be shouting from the tree tops!

Marissa, my wife and I visited the Fox Cities from Texas last week, and your restaurant recommendations were wonderful. We ate at Parker John's and Hop Yard Ale Works (which was fully decorated Harry Potter-style for October), and they were outstanding. This visit confirmed for both of us that we'll probably plan to move to the Appleton area when I retire from the Air Force in the next year or so.

Hi Marissa, I love your videos so much. I am an Air Force officer and my family and I are considering moving to the Fox Valley when I get out of the Air Force in a few years. My wife and I are both from the south, so Wisconsin is far from anywhere we're familiar with! My question is: is Appleton the type of place that is welcoming and accepting of "outsiders", newcomers who aren't from there? Would our kids (ages 7, 9, 13) find it fairly easy to make friends? Some places are notoriously unwelcoming to outsiders.
