R211!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Fascinating, thank you! Been meaning to ask what function the caboose serves on this run, particularly if it's next to the loco \m/
I'm just speculating here but I've heard of extra cars in the consist next to the locomotive being called, "reach cars". That could be its purpose or it might just be a place for the crew to stay in. I do know that the center-beam car next to that caboose and loaded with lumber was not for the Market: It only took the ride down and back and got delivered elsewhere(on the Harlem Line?) later that evening.
Thank you for your compliments and support 🙂
@@BryanMWade in the context of a food market, using reach cars to keep loco fumes out of the halls seems like a good call \m/

36th Street in the borough of Brooklyn.

What's the purpose of the car between the two Engines ??
Locomotives running on diesel towing the electric subway car on non-electric powered rails (no third rails) Edit- That R38 yellow car I see you're talking about. That has to be for a large crew.
Yeah, I think it's for extra personnel to sit in...
Is it possible to witness such a move in daytime?
Generally, they only do it at night but once in a while, there is a daylight move
Next to Costco!
Yes
Nice video. Today I've just visited Industry City for a first time. Are those scrap moves usually done during daytime?
Yes, but at the crack of dawn. The move from 38th Street Yard to South Brooklyn Marine Terminal usually happens between 12 and 2am. Then, the NYNJ Rail comes to pick it up and take it down to 65th Street Yard no later than 6am. Note that as of this writing (8/9/2024), the South Brooklyn Railway is out of service with the tracks torn-up between 3rd and 4th Avenues.
Thank you for your compliment!

Thank you:-)
what time do they normally do this?
Usually between 12 and 2am
Currently though, there aren't any moves over the South Brooklyn Railway because the tracks have been torn up between Third and Fourth Avenues
Thank you for the good show. I wonder if the number plates would be on sale at the Transit Museum. Your show was short but sweet.
Regarding the number plates; The transit museum may have some for sale but you'd have to check with them. My guess is that the missing plates on this consist were lifted illegally...

The train name is 211.!
Yup 👍
I had no idea the Wildwood tram was being used to push subway cars!
I've seen these tracks long first avenue for years and was not aware that they were still being used.
And the funny thing is I got this book on the subways just the day before from Amazon, "UPTOWN, DOWNTOWN: A Trip Through Time on New York’s Subways " , and I got to the part in the book where it mentions this very thing.
Yup, still in use by NYNJ Rail and SBRR
0:51 if the MTA New York State wants to replace the diesel locomotive they might as well order dual mode Stadler Alltenrhein/ Salt Lake City in the IRT Loading Gauge to finish off the diesel locomotives should have ETCS overlaid on CBTC to actually operate on Queens Boulevard EFMR 7 and L trains.
Are they being carfloated into the city now or still coming in on trucks? \m/
I believe still on trucks. The ramps are still there and it looked like someone from MTA CED signed some paperwork from the driver of a Rig that was was leaving the SBMT at the exact same time that the new cars were ready to be hauled down the SBK and onto The Property.
i didnt know there was freight trains in the bronx until now
This was great what a unique opportunity to catch Thank you
Glad you enjoyed it! Thanks for watching
What time do they head down there?
It's been in the PM every time I've chased it but the times vary greatly: It can be as early as Five-ish but I have seen them head down towards the market as late as 8:30pm. The job(as far as I know) is based out of Oak Point Yard. They usually do a lot of drilling in the yard before heading to the market. I guess it depends on how much work they have to do in the yard first.
@@BryanMWade thanks

How many trains per day on the streetrunning?
From what I've seen, NYNJ Rail streetruns approximately once every 2 weeks from 65th Street Yard up to Sims Recycling and back. Those runs are usually open gondolas filled with scrap metal. There may be short runs only as far as Bush Terminal Yard but I haven't ever witnessed one. The moves with NYCT subway equipment happen on an as-needed basis. The last time I checked, it was about every 6 to 8 weeks.
Did the worker get mad for you at filming?
No, they expected the railfans with their cameras because this was the first scrap move after the R32 fleet was officially retired. ...and there were dozens of people all along the route filming everything. I was on a Citibike and am pretty familiar with the area so I was able to race ahead of the train and catch it coming through the army terminal. He was commenting that I, "got the best shot." :-)
How often do the trains run on the Henderson Branch line?
As I'm based in NYC, I might not have the most recent information but as far as I know, there is one round-trip every weekday.
I was expecting a skyline :/
Where's the skyline??
GREAT VIDEO!!!
Thanks! I'm glad that you liked it
While it’s nice how the Transit Museum managed to preserve a full set, it’s still sad to see the other ones go.
That's true!
Do you know what time this train runs
It runs Monday through Friday. It was leaving North Bergen Yard around 9:30am and returning around 2pm but, from what I've heard, it's been leaving a lot later these days; leaving in the late afternoon.
awesome catch!

Thanks!
A very interesting city railway. This is impossible in my city. All our railways (trains or subways (metropoliten)) run separately from street roads.
There are not many places in NYC where you can see street-running so this area is pretty unique.
Excellent video. I rarely see trains crossing that trestle. I did grab a quick video of one myself this year at the same location from a different vantage point. ua-cam.com/video/W-EuJT8hbTY/v-deo.html
Thank you! It took a lot of tries to catch that one. Although there is a train on this line Mon-Fri, it usually leaves Willimantic after 5pm and then it doesn't always go this far. Only trains to New London will cross this bridge. So, only 2 or 3 times a week. Also, this train usually finishes all of it's switching in Franklin before heading south so it's almost always dark by that time. This shot happened because of a temporary reversal in the schedule due to maintenance-of-way work which had these trains leaving at 7am.
Great catch but sad for me. I grew up on the R32's. I miss the Red Birds as well. One thing that I miss the most was getting on the front car and looking out the front window. Sad that the newer trains no longer have that option. I would purposely get on the Local C or B train during the eighties and nineties just to look out the front window even though it made all the local stops after 125st.
Thank you! Yes, it's sad for me, too. The oldest cars that I ever got to ride while still in regular revenue service were the R10s. Weird how the oldest cars on the B Division always end-up on the C-Line! Now, it's the R46es. I really take it in whenever I end-up on an R46, C-Train. These are also some of the first cars I ever rode as a kid on the NYC Subway:-) I miss the front windows also! I made sure that my children were able to experience a ride looking out the front. Who knew that it would be gone now? Well, at least they and we can say that we were able to ride like that before!
Beautifully caught, thank you! Is there any logistical reason why such a delivery can't head directly to Coney Island Yard in one move, rather than doing the complex dance in and out of 9 Av? \m/
Thank you for your compliment! Well, some cars of another order were trucked directly to 207th Street Yard so I guess this could have been done directly there as well. As a railfan, I feel that the R211's should be delivered to NYCT property completely by rail. Utilizing SBRR for deliveries of new cars as well as SBRR/NYNJ Rail for removal of old cars provides usage of South Brooklyn Marine Terminal and provides business to NYNJ Rail and SBMT.
@@BryanMWade thanks for the response - yeah definitely happy for the fullest possible usage of rail but why would they bother with all that switching in and out of 38st Yard when Coney Island is just a quick run down the West End? Is it to do with work hours? \m/
@@officialmcdeath Yes, that train actually went directly to Coney Island Yard via the West End Line\m/
