One of the great movies/plays. Taylor's acting is mesmerising.

The greatest performances ever given in an american film..the movie should have won all the oscars it was nominated for..but it was far ahead of its time for american audiences at that particulsr time in the history of film

Still the best King Kong movie. If you have a chance see the deleted Spider pit scene. It's on UA-cam. I can easily imagine that it would be too grewsome for a 1933 audience.

I have the DVD it is a great film, but did anybody notice from the time Sandy Dennis and George Siegel came in she had a purse but when Richard Burton said that the party is over good night, Sandy Dennis got up from the couch was heading to the door with tv husband and her TV husband George Seagal he was getting ready to apologize, but Richard Burton cut him off at the knees, they walked out hand in hand and no purse. I kept rewinding forward the end to see if she pick up this purse that she walked in there with ,no woman willingly leaves her purse she might leave her money at home, but not her purse and I never knew that George Segal name was Nick. It was never mentioned, I watched it in depth and it was nevermentioned. Just some fun facts.

The 1963 version is far more faithful to the book on which it is based, The Haunting of Hill House by Shirley Jackson. Both the book and the 1963 Robert Wise production are regarded by many to be one of the most powerful tales of the supernatural.

I saw this back in the day and he used the phrase cosmic cost accountant for god, that stuck with me till this day.

I have stated several times in my life that, if I were even to consider going into a realtionship, I'd make her watch this movie with me, and I will pay serious attention to her reaction to it; and talk about it with her, in stark detail. This film, IMO, is the single greatest directorial debut cinema HAS EVER SEEN (hands down!), and there is a reason why I hold it in such extreme high regard. ❤🤩

Also check The face of another, it covers similar themes but to me it goes deeper on identity and is much bolder and refined on style

Interestingly Elizabeth Taylor was less than 2 years older than George Segal (the young professor).

The black n white is perfect. This couple was royalty.

Through all the fights they reveal themselves to each other and that brings them some kind of ballance. They re beyond catharsis but they manage to find peace in the end .

The movie was an extraordinary fabrication -- each actor delivering a viscerally powerful performance without compare in any film before or since; Taylor and Burton had a bit of personal history to draw from in creating their characters just as we get to see them, but dredging up personal connection to the created character is one of the greatest tools a master actor can bring to any part. This movie should be considered one of the 100 greatest character performance films of the 20th century. Great analysis commentary, by the way.

It’s truly an amazing yet disturbing movie with the best of Elizabeth and Richard’s performance’s. I grew up in a highly dysfunctional family and highly recommend a watch for those that did as well. It tears the scab off many unhealed wounds so I can clean and resolve what the movie teaches us is clearly subversive and broken.

I enjoyed the majority of your breakdown but I feel the need to oppose your claim that wanting to avoid pregnancy could be considered “selfish”. Perhaps your words required more context but as is, I’d ask you to reconsider. Women do not have a moral obligation to breed.

Growing up Hombre was my top 3 western movie with Butch Cassidy and The Good Bad Ugly movie. As a kid I've always found Russell's logic just right. Loved it then and stood the test of time for me.

For someone who's been living like a rat in a destroyed city, six years after the collapse of civilization, Elizabeth Montgomery looks hot as hell.

This is an enjoyable film. The character acting is excellent; kudos to Robert H. Harris as the paranoid psychologist. George Kennedy and Leif Erickson make a nasty pair of heavies. "Williard...".

The only Blake Edwards film I respect is Days Of Wine And Roses… I don’t like his style and I thought this film was way too long and really boring and I love lengthy epics, too. I watched it mainly for Glenn Ford who I’ve really come to enjoy, but other than that, I thought this movie sucked big donkeys.

It is a great film, although not especially valued and not very mentioned in the anthologies of the genre. It is based, and quite faithfully, on one of Elmore Leonard's first novels. Great novel and great movie.

I choose this out of a Google search to WATCH, NOT listen to some braying jackass. I, and many others were robbed. This is a fraud. They used deceptive means to gain attention and cessantly talk instead of allowing me to view the show; the main reason they pulled up this site that Google advertised as a link to the show, not some yapping people and no show. They need to silenced. They should be banned from the internet and forms of broadcast for the rest their lives. Further all associated with this fraud, those in Google who participated in this act and the speakers and their staff, should be arrested and imprisoned for ten years, along with a fine of 100 billion dollars.

I've seen this both as a play, then the movie. This never gets dated. I've heard that this has been done with an all male cast and has worked. That's what I call good playwriting. I remember after classes one day years ago at the drama department at Syracuse University that we were hanging out in the lounge area and a couple of the guys did that powerful scene between George and Martha (parking lot in the movie), at first just fooling around. Then they really got into it, and it really grabbed our attention, and it was very powerful. A friend once told me that he thought WHO'S AFRAID OF VIRGINIA WOOLF was probably the greatest love story ever told. After over 50 years of pondering this, along with life experience, I think he may have something there.

NICE - SEEN AT THE CAPRI THEATRE IN COOLANGATTA QUEENSLAND - THEN I WAS TAKEN TO A CHEMIST NEXT DOOR AND OVERDOSED ON HAIRSPRAY AND HAD MY STOMACH PUMPED OUT AT THE DOCTORS SURGERY - I THINK THAT I WAS A BOUT 9 Y.O. - I THINK THAT I MUST HAVE BEEN ADVANCED THINKER FOR MY AGE - BUT THE ADVERT DID SHOW SOMEONE SPRAYING THEIR MOUTH WITH THIS SPRAY - TURNING BLUE WASN'T MY IDEA OF FUN. I GUESS THAT'S ONE OF THE MEMORIES OF SEEING THIS MOVIE MADE ME THINK OF IT - OVER AND OVER AGAIN - AND I SEE THAT HOSE BEING FORCED DOWN MY NECK - I BECAME CULTURALLY AWARE OF POISON AND ITS EFFECTS.
