    Why are the county road commissioners authorizing the doubling of a two-lane road that's out in the bush? Apart from the business establishment in the foreground it's all northwoods!

      @@Matijab. "Europeans don't use it therefore blablabla". Arguments from authority are worthless, show me scientific proof those are completely useless and only then will I agree with your opinion. Pedestrian fatalities still happen at roundabouts, even in Europe. So in the meantime, I think it's great they made the effort to add this extra layer of safety. PS: These lights only flash red when a pedestrian activates them, electricity usage is negligeable.

      @@Matijab. Funny how everytime I get into a debate on road infrastructure, the guy turns out to be either an urban planner or a traffic engineer. I'm gonna start thinking most of these titles are fictitious. There are twice as many roundabouts where I live, and pedestrian fatalities happen. Road fatalities are a very rare occurence all things considered, and pedestrian fatalities are even more rare. So no matter your country's population, the sample size is too low to determine if your specific situation is indicative that fatalities can never happen on a roundabout. Especially on the american continent where driver behaviour and vehicle speeds are completely different. I would expect a "traffic engineer" to know that.

Many times circles are put in these days for many non logical reasons mainly there fancy new tool us road angencies wanna use. Most times ligts or even better timed lights are necessary and in areas where lights dont do justice . Grade seprations. Many areas i been to that went over board with circles have shown to increase traffic times and slowed the flow of traffic over a portion of a corridor. We are doing what we did with clovers in the 20s. Used them for eveyrthing. Circles are mainly Good if most traffic is turning, or on streets where people dont go straight. Off busy highway exits or where large amaount of vehcicles cross. the problem is that the circle needs to eb bigger to handle the increas of traffic volume. Most times a road way just needs a widening or underpass . Each road tool is good at eveyrthing, we keep looking at outher countries road junctiosn as to go to answer when there road system isnt the same as ours as well forget how bad roads are in those countries. Persdonaly i think i only seen 3-8 good use of circles out of the hundreds i traveld on

      What's the matter with circles?

    • @MetroHam
      @MetroHam 2 роки тому

      @@potblack6043 the problem isn't with circles themselves it's where there used. It's becoming too spammy where we use to build them where we needed now it's just used as a cheap modern solution. Circles are great off highway exits where people mostly get on and off or areas where the road length isn't long rather just a collector road. It's also good on end segments like T junctions Or road crossing were most people turn or where high streams of traffic merges with multiple road options . And even then that depends on how much traffic is coming through the area Most times a well times traffic lights pumps more out then a circle Or grade separation does more then a circle. I've seen example in my state where they have put them up everywhere and it's quite awful where traffic builds up for miles or having slow downs on roads to busy for the circle to handle . Most roads just need a proper widening and better lights then full blown circle that eats up so much real estate

    Whose idea was it to destroy Baldwin Road in Lk. Orion? Congratulations you have succeeded in turning a once nice area into a nightmare. I'd like to know whose pockets got lined on this one? Seriously, you have made a mess of that area. smdh 5 round abouts in one area is insane.

    • @cbbryson1
      @cbbryson1 5 років тому

      Over 20 years of planning went into the Baldwin Road along with numerous public meetings. The township has been heavily involved in the process as well. Originally, there were eight roundabouts planned; however, the public meetings, input and guidance from our partners reduced the roundabouts to five. The roundabouts better accommodate population growth in the area and will Baldwin Road will operate more efficiently. Roundabouts better accommodate additional traffic that comes with areas that are developing quickly. Roundabouts are safer too. All these facts are backed by the Federal Highway Administration. For more information on roundabouts, visit: safety.fhwa.dot.gov/intersection/innovative/roundabouts/ If you suspect illegalities, please contact our attorneys at dcsmail@rcoc.org All the work for this project is subject to major federal and state oversight on each dollar spent too. Thanks for comments.

I have yet to be at a roundabout that someone doesn't seem to be confused. And no they are not safer. It's no wonder our roads are crappy when you spend over 50 million dollars on one stretch of road that could have just been widen and added a few more lights. I'm tired of having my tax dollars being blown on ridiculous projects such as this one. We have some of the worst roads in the country, and this is what you spend the money on? Why would I waste my time contacting a lawyer when you all share the same bed. FHA....right. Just another tax sucking establishment like the OCC. smdh

    OMG all those tax dollars wasted. When you guys plan that kind of thing, don't you look at countries where they have roundabouts for hundreds of years, and take a good look how the good ones work, and how they are designed?

    • @cbbryson1
      @cbbryson1 7 років тому

      Actually, this plan was reviewed and signed off on by more outside experts than any project RCOC has ever undertaken before. It was approved by the Federal Highway Administration, the Michigan Department of Transportation and numerous traffic and roundabout experts from across the country. Modern roundabouts, as used here, were invented in England in the 1960s and were the result of extensive research seeking to find the safest and most efficient form of intersection. No modern roundabouts have been around for hundreds of years (besides which, there were no cars more than about 115 years ago).
