Legally you are not permitted to cross the locks by bike. The bridge is now passable by bike on the harbor side and this fall the river side will be completed! So in Revere Park you would head up to Rutherford Ave to then cross the new Charlestown Bridge! We are hoping the HarborWalk pathways under the bridge on both sides get rebuilt and then afterwards work on opening the harbor side off paths mirroring what the river side offers jumping to the HarborWalk from a safer place exiting to Hull St in the North End and into Charles River Ave in Charlestown. On the harbor side off paths we are also looking at adding an elevator as the space is too tight for a HP ramp setup.

The final part of the path, behind Somerville High School, opened last month.

Thank you! This was so useful; you showed a few areas perfect for doing acrophobia exposure exercises

Hi George, I am on the Somerville Participatory Budget Committee and we are currently working on developing ballot measures that Somerville residents will get to vote on this fall to allocate city funds. A popular suggestion has been safety improvements at community path intersections. Could we use some screen grabs from your video to attach to the ballot and show current intersection conditions?

At 13:22 there is a path leading off to the left that you did not take. It goes past the Lynch Family Skatepark and leads directly to the next bridge (going to Charlestown) without any need to ride on the street. It rejoins from the left at 13:55.

It's a good shortcut, I go that way, but it hardly matters since there's barely any traffic coming out there, just the EF building and a construction yard. The park is almost a nicer choice if someone is taking a scenic approach.

I have in the past encountered some tree root upheaval on the longer route by the water.

The path to the left under the Zakim bridge is the Millers Creek path which will get you to the Bunker Hill Community College T Station and the Charlestown shopping Mall. The college parking lot is being redeveloped into mixed use housing. So instead of being forced to ride along a busy street space (Rutherford Ave) you’ll be able to take the Millers Phase I extension to the station directly. Still being pushed is a new second bridge across the commuter rails into Morgan Ave in Cambridge for cyclists and a small shuttle vehicle to open up better transit across this difficult crossing. The shuttle will connect from within the community core to BHCC T station as well as link us to Lechmere Green line and the buses from it. In the future we hope to extend the Millers pathway all the way to Sullivan Sq T station. Then if the funding Gods are good to us, when Cambridge/Washington St corridor is updated for all of the pending plans along it a more effective bike corridor linking Sullivan and the new East Somerville T stations and connections into Everett via Draw Seven park and the new bridge across the Mystic as well as a new rail trail along the Moran Terminal spur and coming Boston Mystic RiverWalk as well. In the end we will have pathways leading all the way into the Navy Yard and a lattice of protected bike paths connecting outward from Charlestown!
