Let's test & build this Pentium III...
on this episode I test this Quantex Pc that has a strange and weird setup for Pentium III, slot and socket combo... I'm only concentrating on testing and putting it back together in this video, on the next episode I'll have some gameplay and little bit of technical "history" about this motherboard which is made by Bio-star. enjoy the footage. #retrotech #oldcomputers #retrocomputer #techretro #vintagecomputer #computer

Welcome back to our channel! In this video, we give the BFG Geforce4 mx4000 GPU a second chance to prove itself. this time we test it using six different drivers and the results might I say are interesting to see. Also if you want to see the first video here's the link: ua-cam.com/video/AT3TC5boITs/v-deo.html here's a link of the drivers used for Windows XP: www.philscomputerlab.com/nvidia-xp-g...

Переглядів 743Рік тому
on the last day of GPUJune3, we take a look at the geforce4 MX4000. a budget oriented card from 2003, this card was very disappointing product as it had poor performance and compatibility issues. so lets take a look! there's a second video correcting some of the mistakes made on this video here is the link if you want to watch it: ua-cam.com/video/02IUP-53Pgk/v-deo.html

did you use washers to raise metal standoffs?
@@cyd12-gf4dl do you mean from case stand offs? If that is the case no I only used the metal copper ones.
i mean , i noticed something under "metal standoffs" .
@@cyd12-gf4dl yes do see it now the two left top metal stands. There's a washer and I guess whoever put it together installed them like that I simply just left it. I think they are the red paper washers you use to get when you get the Pc case, and have the bag of nuts and screws to install the motherboard.
@@theObsoleteTechie yeah thanks. very nice videos btw keep going!
@cyd12-gf4dl thanks!!
congratulation you have own one of the best super socket 7 motherboard and PC case is nostalgic too 👍
@@abdulazizaltalhi7866 👍🏽
very compact motherboard. will you be making more videos on this pc?
Yes! I'm planning on getting one more video about this board. There are several things I want to try, since I haven't really ever experienced a super socket 7 motherboard. I want to see what I can do with it, maybe I'll go all out crazy and upgrade it to the most possible... Or simply try different chipsets.
@@theObsoleteTechie try to get a K6-2+ or 3+ that had the extra level cache on it
@@mOddEdLiKeHeLL definitely I'll keep an eye out for those chips.
00:24 what game is that 4-players mode?
It's battle tanx for Nintendo 64
I can't believe there isn't a TSR for the squished S3 savage. so many laptops need a fix :(
What exactly are you trying to do?
@@theObsoleteTechie make 320x200 take the full screen instead of the squished 16:9 that leaves black bars at the top and bottom of the screen. Honestly worse than just using dos box with emulated sb in win98
@@Eyepatchfilms I guess you ran into the memory problem that the video card has
CMOS battery??
Yeah the CMOS battery was dead, but the cause of it not turning on was the processor wasn't seated properly.
What CPU are you running these on? It does affect the score. Also if anyone is considering getting one of these cards.. go for the 128-bit version (you can tell that it is that by having mem chips above and to the right of the GPU die (it will be a full size card). The 64-bit is too slow.. it about the same speed as GeForce 256 DDR.
The cpu is AMD Athlon 1Ghz, and your right 128-bit is the better card to get... I did get several more cards, several variants of the mx 4000.(some are 128bit 64bit). I'll be making a video for gpujune and testing all these cards. I can include the hardware I'll be using on the test. Thank you for your comment 😁😁
Respect to the author 👏
def post the results, im curious how much of a difference the that copper plug changes the thermals
I'll definitely will be posting an update of my findings
@@theObsoleteTechie hey i don't know if too late but. The mother board is on wrong 😬
That's true
It was good for hardware acceleration for Windows Vista's visual effects. And for DVD playback.
I have one i just bought at a flea, it came with a 12v charger, while it requests a 16v charger, when i power it on u can see the ibm logo appear after some seconds, then suddenly power off, is it because the charger? Or is this the “blink of death”?
I would recommend that you use the appropriate charger for that laptop. It's the 16v at 65w.
I'm not a big tech guy, but there is a lot of effort and enjoyment I think you get from creating these videos. I also like your commentary and pacing of the video, it's calm and concise. I hope u get more views
3.2GB/s mem bandwith was was absolutely horrible in 2003/2004. I had a year 2000 GF256-DDR, and it had 4.8MB/s bandwith. It would probably outperform the MX4000 in higher resolutions. The next card I had was an MX440, luckily the 128 bit version. That card was still a huge disappointment, because it didn't support DX8 pixel shaders as the GF3 did. Naming these things "GeForce 4" was more a scam than anything else, and I fell for it. It didn't take long until TI4200 got cheap, and that's where I put the MX440 into my wife's PC. Today, these cards have some use as decent Win98 card for DX7 games. They don't use much power, don't need a fan and are cheap and easy to get.
When I was making this video, I was expecting a better result on Windows 98 games. I did try different drivers for it and got different results, but with the same issue: the missing texture problem. I don't really know if it's the card that was having issues. So, I decided to go on eBay and buy 2 more cards: the Mx4000 64mb version from MSI and the Mx440-8x with 128mb. I want to see if my card is that bad or the whole geforce4 MX series is just bad. I'm still waiting for those to come. That's why I didn't get a chance to include them in the video. Hopefully, I'll make a video about it. I also want to thank you for commenting about your experience using the geforce 4 MX4000. The geforce4 MX series was very desiving it looked good on paper, but the performance sucked.😆😆
@@theObsoleteTechie Actually, I was surprised to see these graphcal glitches. Drivers were actually pretty stable back then. I never saw anything like that with any of my cards. I'm usually using an older Forceware releases like 43.45, because that still has support for anything >= TNT and <= GF FX5xxx.
Even thought the mem bandwidth was not that great, the overall product did benefit from memory bandwidth optimization of the GeForce 4. I look at my GeForce 4 MX440 as a souped-up GeForce 2 (or the card that the GeForce 2 should have been). It is faster then ALL of the GeForce 2 cards and its cheap if you are building a retro rig. If you can get GeForce 4 MX460, you will have the fastest DX7 rig out there.. I find that playing 2003/2004 games on even full blown GeForce4 too slow. I tend to over spec my retro rigs, so for the 2003/4 games i use C2D E8400 and a GTX 9800 GTX (i also have a spare GTS 250, ie the same card). This gives me 60fps with 4xAA and 16xAF at 1280x1024. The 2 most demanding games of that period are Morrowind (2002) and FarCry (2004).
I have a T22 (essentially the same machine, I think only the cpu is different) that I bought for the purpose of retro gaming a few years ago. Unfortunately it suffers from the dreaded "blink of death" phenomenon, so it's really hit and miss whether I can switch it on or not. And as far as I know there is no fix for that problem, so you are lucky that your machine seems to be ok.
Ah, yes, the blink of death. I actually have 3 other thinkpads that suffer from the blink of death. I have read that by changing a chip, you can bring it back to life. I did look into it, but I lack the skills and equipment for now to do the swap on the chip. I do plan to get at least one working. I already destroyed one motherboard, trying to get the chip off. on the other one, I destroyed the pads where the chip goes. The t21 that I used on this video it was my uncles laptop, and It had suffered the same fate, "the blink of death." I remembered around 2004 that a local shop had the motherboard replaced and has worked great since then. I only replaced the clock battery.
and my second quest this voodoo 3000 card i same wait my ordering from macintosh g3 moral mac how fits this? molar mac my favorite a first type imac g3 called geige g3 mac os9.2 a driver easy find this but molar mac how instal this a hard quest
The voodoo3 3000 pci does fit on the beige g3. About the molar mac there's a guy on youtube(action retro) that was able to get a video card working on the molar mac. Heres a link to the video: m.ua-cam.com/video/ITQMM-ApNLI/v-deo.html Please let me know if you ever decide to make a video I would love to see this done for a voodoo3 3000.

@@daviddadut4620 If I understand right. Yes you can get a voodoo 2 card and have it working on a mac. You don't need to flash it like the voodoo3. You still going to need to get 2d portion of the output from another card using the pass thru cable to the voodoo2 card (its the same as a pc). The only thing you need to do is dump the drivers in the extension folder. And you're ready to game on the mac. Im not quite sure what you are referring about windows 3.1 or 95. Remember that macs have a different way of installing drivers they had extension. So, not sure if this answers your question. Here is a link to LGR video talking about installing a voodoo2 in a mac 6400/180 maybe it can explain better what im talking about. LGR: m.ua-cam.com/video/mUlCkH5v938/v-deo.html

hi my quest for my voodoo 5 6000 pci how fit inside power g4 mmd? normal power mac g4 i have home now but now i wait my ordered power mac g4 dual 1.25 mdd and this i try put inside my quest drivers easy find a osx 10.4 ? and 2 a card size u know a voodoo 5 6000 not need explain from hard fit inside some pc thanks a forward answer :)
Wow! intersting. As far as the driver goes I don't know if they have drivers for 10.4. Please don't quote me on this but, I haven't come across any for the voodoo5 6000 driver from that time. I do know that they made voodoo5 6000 for macs and on falcon fly have drivers for it. I dont know if it includes the flashing bios for the card and the bios for it.(if your planning to flash pc version to a mac) The only one I've seen is from voodoo 4 4500 on xlr8yourmac and it says "mac os8.5 and higher". Although, mac os 10 came in to market at the beginning of 2001. I dont know if 3dfx had a chance of making drivers for it. There is of course a community that is making new cards and clone cards you might have more luck finding new drivers for what your looking. Hopefully I was able to answer question.😌
thanks i try this :) unfortunately voodoo 4 4500 only agp slot type have and same my voodoo 5 5500 a 5 6000 pci version have and same my voodoo 3 3000 pci version i try my mac coolections from how work very few my tower type desktop mac only one g4 quicsilver 1ghz and one blue white 450mhz g3 long time ago i see one think from somebody put one voodoo 3 3000 one mac g3 beige tower and this i try my molar mac molar mac a geige g3 tower mac imac version and now for try i good my voodoo 5 6000 os 9.2 try but i waiting my new order a g4 quick silver dual 1ghz from this more compatible a only install os 9.2
Thanks for the video! At least flashing is a reversible process if you ever changed your mind.
thank you Nathan! I will later flash it back. First I want to have working the 8500 power mac and compare the voodoo 3 against other cards that where available for the power mac. that was my first goal for this video but it didn't worked out as I planned.
@@theObsoleteTechie so does it work on PowerMac 8500 or not? I want to try it on PowerMac G3.
@@cyberluke yes it does work on the power mac 8500. the only issue is that its still with the original processor. most likely I need to upgrade in order to play more demanding game like UT99. Does run descent 3 slugish so far.
@@theObsoleteTechie Perfect, I am year 1987, a long time PC master race, who just recently discovered Doom, Dark Forces and Prince of Persia was 640x480 there :-D mind blown. Tried emulators, not good enough. Spent one week on 2005 Powerbook G4 1.33GHz to hack 10.2.7 Jaguar. Got the best performance so far, will make a video about it. But two days ago, just acquired Powermac G3 - 266 Mhz and my mind was blown. Dark Forces runs even more smooth than the most smooth OS X with Classic environment. Also ordered Umax Pulsar from Germany (300 Eur including mouse and keyboard, hope my wife not reading this). I think I should get faster 604e CPU as well then. Very interesting to explore. Found a 1997 Steve Jobs video, where they compare G3 to Pentium II - 300 Mhz and blow it away. I need to explore what other PCI GPU drivers and bios support is there - Geforce 2 or Riva TNT2 PCI? I think Voodoo3 is better to use in PC for Glide and put something like Geforce 2 here.
@@cyberluke one the articles that I posted as reference show two other gpus one is the Ati 128 rage and the proformance 3. The Ati rage pro has better support from apple but the voodoo3 seem to be slightly faster (not better) since is using beta drivers theres alot of thinkering envolved with the system to get it right.
Amazing video! Keep it up
