Highly specialist. To be very few places in the world where you could do this. Interesting however.
As an ocean sailor I've got to say watching this was fascinating and a little unsettling at the same time.
Awesome video John. cockpit, quad, and background music is great. Nice boat too!
Outstanding
Nice view! Thanks for sharing!
Al vedere questi mostri fa venire i brividi. Le velocità raggiunte sono pazzesche. Un grande passo nella tecnica aerodinamica. Bravissimi.
Great race. Why is the picture so tiny, though?
Fun watching 🎉

Really ahead of your time.. Sail GP foiling racing boats use this, a slotted hard wing. 🤟
Amazing design! About the foot of sail gp boats.. The pressure there is concentrated, due to it being endplated at the root, much like an aero fuselage. In the clips, I see the tip of the (vintage) wing sail is endplated, much like a winglet, which serves the same purpose.
Thank you for sharing John. This was so cool. I am rather envious and blissfully ignorant of all the challenges you faced to pursue this sport.
Oh c'mon, boats don't have wheels. That's a LANDSPEEDER! Way cool man.
Nice details on these mysterious craft.
Thanks for sharing the video. Awesome race! How does someone break into landsailing? Is there a place where you can rent the boats?

Do you still have it?
Hello, please tell me, does the concept with a sectional four-element wing work? I just want to make such a wing, but I'm not sure about its effectiveness
The two element will have less drag as the speed increases.

These people have built multiple element wings but found the 2 element to work best. ua-cam.com/video/0LcyErKm2Y4/v-deo.html

Thx, so interesting
I am proud to know both of these gentlemen.. an endless crevasse of landsailing knowledge.. Great Interview John and Russ
I realize this video is several years old but my question is, did you make more than a part 1 and 2? Our daughter bought this same year model and has no owner manual with it. She is curious what a lot of the different buttons inside the coach are for. Would appreciate feedback if you see this.

Hi, Very cleaver bit of work & looks lite weight & not super heavy like most tube benders also have you protected the groove in the former wheels with anything ?. Ed.
absolutely fantastic machines! Amazing to see the evolution. I love the bare aluminum designs, but they are all elegant and fast!
Great Video! My mini 7 degree 9/32 router bit which came with the Porter Cable jig needs replacing. Do you know where we can find a router bit to replace?

@@Oldbuerist The ST 49 weighs about 280lbs The one pictured in video is 475 lbs
How much wind was that when you were going 68 mph? That looks amazing
Hi Lawson, it was blowing in the upper teens. I posted a link to your iceboat video on The Four Lakes IceYacht Club. They really liked it. One of their members would like to give you some iceboat runners for free. If your interested go to iceboat.org and find the contact information and email Deb. She knows who you are. Have fun.
for some reason your link doesn't work could let me know what the right address is I copy and pasted so I don't think it was me

thanks for the help
is it better to stand the wing from the side or ??
First thing is to check and see if the mainwing control chain in the boat is tight. Its not good to have any slop. There should be a tensioner. Tighten it if needed. Get the boat set up and orient it slightly to weather. About 40 degrees or so. You want the breeze to help you lift the wing if there is s breeze. Make sure the boat can’t roll forward or backward first. Use a saw horse or place the boat close enough to your trailer. The wing should be on its side. Leave the top of the wing on the saw horse or trailer. Take the bottom of the wing and place it into the tee receiver. Put the keepers in next. To hold wing on receiver. Hook up the for stay on wing and boat. Hook up the side stay closest to the wing on wing and boat. That side stay will be on under side of the wing. Hook up the other side stay on the top side of the wing. Make sure to lay that side stay so its straight down the wing to prevent tangles. Prepare the stay adjuster on the top side stay by putting the side stay adjuster on the axle and pull the pin where the stay attaches to the side stay and have it ready easy to grab. Now your ready to lift the wing from the side. Before you lift swing it backwards until the forestay is tight. Now lift it up until its vertical by walking it up. Once its up keep pressure on it until you can grab the unfastened side stay. The wind is your friend by helping to hold the wing up for you as well. Hook up the side stay. It might take a few times to get the stays in the right holes if you are new to the boat. Its likely they go in the middle holes of the stay adjusters. Then hook up the back stays. If the wing has polycarbonate gap closers on the bottom of the wing put those on too. I would put up the 14’ wing first because it will be the easiest one. You want enough side stay slop so that the wing rotates / sheets out easy with you in the boat. When the boat is un attended make sure it can’t roll forward or back ward. Always lock the mainwing controls or the wing will go crazy on you. If I leave my wingboat unattended for a period of time I park it in between my rv and trailer. I tie the boat down with a rope that goes from the side stay back stay junction to the trailer and the other side to the rv. It is secure then with no chance of tipping over.
i have a boat with sail # us127. 3 wings 14, 16 and 18. going to try it this weekend by black rock desert
Laurie McKenzie built that ST 49. We will be at Alvord Sept 25th - Oct 2nd. You should join us.

how do you stand the wing by yourself?
I could do the ST 49 by myself. It was only 16’ tall. You need a few people to help otherwise. On my bigger wings I get help or make a gin pole.
ua-cam.com/video/JOW4g5v6Tbk/v-deo.html
can you show the halyards rigging?
Look at 38:50 in the video. The side stay is attached with a small tang on the side of the main wing. It gets bolted on through the wing to the other side tang on the opposite side. I cut the side stays in half and connect them with tangs that sandwich the stays. All the tangs are about 3” long.the side tangs have three holes in them that match up when sandwiched together. The end holes are for the side shrouds the middle hole is for the back stays.

do you have an idea how to make flap control on a c class catamaran? unfortunately did not find information. and a classic sail in Russia is very expensive to sew than to make a wing. Just don't understand how to control the flap from a distance?
Great video, looking forward to more uploads. Take a look at PromoSM to help grow your channel!
привет супер фильм , могу ли я использовать часть твоего видео в моей подборке самодельных изобретений ? hi can I use part of your video to my compilation homemade inventions ?
Nice sailing!!! I am ready for some of that! Guess the playa is dry! Looked a lil soft in spots?
Yes it was soft and dusty. It was also a slower surface too. They are in a drought resulting in the drylake not flooding this winter. That is why its softer.
why techno crap music
Great vid as always John. Keep em coming :)
Wow. That looks like a blast. Better than a hydrofoil. Nice video edit.
Thanks Rod
Thanks for posting. Bought the plans. This helps a lot.
This is so epic.

Would you be willing to discuss the specifics of the spacers please. I’m particularly interested in how you set them up in relation to creating the half inch clearance necessary for the Blum bottom mount guides. It looked like you had equally spaced pins with a quarter inch bottom. Trying to understand how the bottom groove remains “hidden” without changing the symmetry of the dovetails. Other words, I like the joint to be symmetrical with proper half pins at top and bottom but am concerned that when I cut the bottom grooves, they will run through and be visible. Any specifics would be great. I’m assuming you are using “1/2” inch Baltic birch all around?
