Glad to finally see someone doing new things instead of flooding the market with just another variation of another amp sim sonically identical to the 500 already on the market.
This video got me from clueless to sending 3 post-fx signals as an input. Next up is figuring out VM's EQ, but great progress from one video. Thanks
Mostly worked for me, but i cannot find where to change the latency... Thanks anyways though! this helped me understand it though i have 1056 latency now </3
What happens if you change the buffer size in your audio interface?
Subbed
is there any method to do that without a soundcard?
I have not tested that, but my guess would be no. Any solution without a sound card would produce far too much latency to be usable.
I just don't know how to express my appreciation to you, let be simple thanks, thanks a lot
idk im having no luck when i monitor to hear my guitar in my daw and route it to hear in obs and voice meter im just getting a loud screeching feedback
Make sure to check your inputs in your DAW. That sounds like microphone feedback (done it plenty of times myself).
For the Compressor, Gate and Denoiser, we can fine-tune the inner parameters with Shift-LeftClick.
Genius, thank you!
Great video ... I just got through the same setup and I have a touch of latency that's driving me nuts. What's your method with no latency (or very little)?
I messed with the buffer size until I got it to a point that didn't crackle (which VM can do at super low sizes) and the latency was manageable. If all else fails lower your sample rate to 44100. If it's there already, I don't really have a good answer.
Is it possible to tune a guitar via VM? Or now i'm realizing i should just get a guitar-centric plugin?
Not possible in VM. You need a guitar centric plugin, or a DAW or even a physical tuner. Whichever you can get your hands on.
@@thedbarchives thanks i hate the word plugin by the way when they are standalone programs hehe
You sir are a frickin genius, not kidding! Iv been struggling between my pc, voicemeeter, reason daw, I RIG and the god dam amp sim for over a month now and you my friend showed me the one tiny hidden @#$%$^ switch that fixed it.
Got the same guitar a couple years ago, ended up completely blocking the trem (both ways). Wouldn't stay in tune, likely due to the plastic nut not being exactly perfect. Now the trem completely fixed, so Drop-D 'n' stuff work flawlessly, and the tuning stability is more awesome. Great guitar for all things 🤘
I’m too lazy to do that 😂. I have heard a graphtec nut and some locking tuners are the two best non-blocking ways to get better stability.
Fiddled around with Potato Meter a few months ago for streaming, then got rid of it. I thought, maybe if I get another Focusrite, that should do the trick! Yeah, no... Because you can't get two of this Audiointerfaces work on the same machine. But even if you use two different PCs (or PC and laptop) it's kinda bullocks. Because you want stereo output via your standalone VST amp (and in many cases you only have a 2i2, so mic and another mono channel). :D
i think i did all of this right but i still only hear the raw audio
You were absolutely the bridge between having just the clean tone into Voicemeeter to actually putting it through the DAW, thank you so much I never would have thought to use the patch insert section
you saved me dude, THANKS!
This video was very good and I followed all the step. However the overall latency between the polychrome DSp suite was not good. I am neophyte with all of this. Honestly all I want is to be able to record me playing live while using the plugin right into OBS studio just like I record my desktop or my amp with mics. Is it possible ??
Without knowing Polychrome at all, I can say you can record directly in OBS if it has a VST2 plugin. OBS doesn’t recognize VST3. So you could use OBS ASIO to route your dry guitar into OBS, add Polychrome as a plugin and it should work. You may still experience latency but that will be because OBS isn’t meant for complicated plugins. Alternatively, you could use ReaRoute from your DAW to do the same.
PJ's and eye liner🤌
At 10:40. I believe the reason you could not hear anything when you changed the second module in serial option is because the software processes the input audio as 2 channels left and right and because the first module was hard panned to the left it was feeding the second module (cause of the serial option) with a signal that had audio only on its left channel. And because your 2nd module was hard panned to the right there was no signal coming out. I hope that makes sense.
I have the same guitar 😂
and it works very well in linux. say that
The knee setting on the compressor is how "hard" or how "soft" the compressor kicks in. Basically it adds/removes a curve to the threshhold point. Less knee is more aggressive compression, whereas more knee is softer, almost pre-compressing before actually hitting the threshold. Personally I find a setting of 0.15 to 0.30 works pretty well for voice, 0.0 is a bit too snappy/clean to me and 1.0 compress too much of stuff that don't need it. The damping max is how much noise you want to reduce. At the default setting (-inf) it is a gate, it completely removes the audio after it goes below the threshold. Setting it at any value above infinite will make it work more like an expander, and just turn down the volume by the value set once audio goes below the threshold. The BP sidechain stands for "Band Pass Sidechain" and is used to set a frequency for the gate/expander to listen to. If you don't want it to react to low frequency rumble or mouseclicks/keyboard clacks for an example, you would probably set it to something between 800-2000 Hz. That way the gate will listen to that and only react to any audio in that frequency range. I am not sure exactly how steep the filters are, but a rule of thumb would be a 12dB per octave range. I personally leave this off as I find it can be a bit janky to get the setting right. Also a small sidenote: the processing order of the channel is Denoiser > EQ > Gate > Compressor > Limiter > Fader I'm not completely sure where the X-Y modulation effect fits in the chain, but probably after the EQ. I hope you find this info usefull. EDIT: you can right click the EQ screen and set it to a more resonable scale like +12/-18. The default +18/-36 is very hard to visualize what exactly is going on.
T H A N K Y O U !!!!!
I know this is an old video, but I was hoping you might be able to answer a question if you happen to see this. Are string changes on that guitar more complicated with it having a floating bridge vs a standard hardtail? I'm not into the whole whammy bar thing either, but I came across a PRS SE Custom 24 35th Anniversary edition at a great price and couldn't resist snatching it up. I usually stick to hardtails because I've heard that changing the strings on any guitar with a floating bridge requires a lot more attention to detail. I know the trem system on a Custom 24 isn't quite as complex as something like a Floyd Rose, but I'm wondering if I'll still need to fool with matching the tension of the strings with the spring tension on the floating bridge.
Hey Davey! Excellent question. Yes, it is a bit more involved than a hardtail bridge, but that should only occur on the first change. What I mean is, you'll set up your string gauge, tuning and spring tension once. As long as you don't change string gauge or tuning with each string change, you should not have to fiddle with the spring tension. For example - the guitar in this video is now set to D Standard, 10-46g strings. Those were not the factory settings of course, so when I changed them I did have to adjust the spring tension. However, the guitar has been in D standard for over a year now, and all I do is remember that I need 10-46s on there and I just change the strings. Little to no fiddling with the spring tension at all. There is an exception - climate. I'm Canehdian, so winter is cold and summer is hot. I do have to set the guitar up every 6 months which may involve a quarter turn on both the truss and springs, but nothing major.
@@thedbarchives Thanks, that makes sense. I kinda thought that would be the case, but I wanted to make sure since my guitars have always been hardtails or just straight string through. I definitely prefer having a fixed bridge, but that SE I found was too sweet to pass up and it's not like it's some gargantuan monstrosity like a Floyd Rose anyway. I appreciate you taking the time to answer a random question on an old video, very cool.
Your mascara's running
Thanks for noticing.
ok so something I learned. While you are in either the gate or the compressor you can hold control and right click the number and type whatever you want or hold shift and left click the number and really fine tune it.
Excellent find, thank you so much for sharing!
I just got a beautiful Yellow PRS Santana SE. Trem bridge is butter smooth. It is new and not broken in, I have not lubed the nut yet, but I was surprised it doesn't stay in tune better given the high quality of the guitar. I'm a Floyd guy and have no issue with drilling holes in a guitar, but this PRS is so beautiful I'd have to give it a lot of thought. The bridge is solid, a mod I have keeps the bridge stable. Its the nut, or tuners.
Since it's an SE, my best guess would be the nut. If you have the budget, PRS sells locking tuners and an upgraded nut for the SE line. Total cost should be ~$300. Definitely worth looking into.
@@thedbarchives thanks. I'm actually putting a Kahler locking nut behind the nut. I'm a big fan of Floyd style locking nuts and have used them since the 80s. Thing is once you lock the nut end, the bridge end strings can move and cause tuning instability. I have that handled and will be sharing that as soon as the Patent is filed. The thing about trem locks I like is better trem action, only the strings between the nut and bridge saddles extend or contract rather than the stretch/contraction being between the ball end of the string and tuners. The guitar feels beautiful.
Preety cool.
Made in indonesia or usa?
All SE models are made in Indonesia and given an inspection in the US before shipping.
Nice video format really enjoyed the review. I HIGHLY recommend checking out the free trial of STL Tonality Josh Middleton that just released this week! I'm selling my real amp heads and Axe FX II because of it.
interesting
Thanks dude! you are a super boss. I don't know how you figured that out. Mine was still glitching but worked when reinstalled asio. Still you helped so much to understand. I wanna try the DAW thing too.
So glad I could help!
what about latencies? its makes me crazy......
Without knowing anything about your setup, I would recommend setting your ASIO buffer somewhere between 128 and 256. It depends on your setup and in my experience VM hates me if I go below 128.
@@thedbarchives studio one 6, focusrite Scarlett solo, windows 11
What’s your Focusrite buffer set to? In Windows sound settings make sure you set the device to match your rate (44.1 or 48khz). Sometimes Windows doesn’t automatically adjust for devices like it should. Otherwise my Focusrite 2i2 did well at a buffer of 192.
That worked!! Now I can play along UA-cam videos with Guitar rig 5. Thank you so much!!
Woo! Happy to help!
When doing my patch inserts, would you know why my sound is distorted to an 8-bit style sound almost like Zelda hitting an enemy on NES?
There is a very real possibility that you need to increase your buffer size. I leave mine at 192 and that seems to have a good mix of quality with unnoticeable latency.
\m/
Omw to check out Project Synthetic!
Just a random person on the internet's thoughts. I thought your song was pretty unique. I think you have a cool perspective and could make some really cool stuff if you keep at it. The second half of it has a cool ambience/feel to it.
good to have you back man.
I understand buffer sizes and latency yet when I click "insert voicemeter virtual ASIO" on guitar rig it sounds horrible even maxing out the buffer size. Feels unfixable lol
Make sure you’re using Voicemeeter Potato and use “Insert Voicemeeter Potato Virtual ASIO”. That will activate the inserts and hopefully work.
@@thedbarchives Yes it worked! Genius! seems voicemeter banana and regular versions come with budget versions of the drivers even by the website description
This random video helped me with obscure issue I was trying to figure out on my PRS. You seem like a dude that I'd get along great with and have similar music tastes with. Liked and subbed man!
I own that exact model. My favourite guitar.
i was able to do that in a easier way and no significant delay but... welcome to the world of voicemeeter + guitar i have no idea how it works but it works
I no longer use Voicemeeter at all. I found a way that better works with my workflow. Video coming soon. If you happen to remember your method, please post it and share with the rest of us.
@@thedbarchives kay, if i remember i'll post it here I'm looking forwards to you new method too
Ok mate, you deserve a like and a sub. I liked this video very much, especialy because i am going to buy this guitar and you just made me want it even more❤️
🖤🖤🖤🖤
First of all: Fuck yeah back to making videos! Second: Goblyn deez nasty plugin nutz.
Hell yeah!! Back to making videos!!
What's the better low latency option for musicians? If you did a video on it can you link it? If not maybe you can help me based on this: I can't get my browser audio to come through my headphones anymore. It's registering in voicemeeter but not getting any actual output through my interface headphones. I hear my guitar but I'm not hearing any plug-in effects or audio from my web browser. I just wanted to be able to record (not even stream) whatever I was playing a long with AND my guitar separately in reaper..
Personally, I just stick to ReaRoute, haven't done a video on it just yet though. If it's registering in Voicemeeter, check that you haven't accidentally turned off the output button (A1, A2, B1 etc). Since you can hear your guitar but not your plugins etc have you checked your audio interface's direct monitoring setting? I don't know why it would cut any audio out, but if you have a 3rd gen Focusrite anything (bad) is possible lol. Let me know your setup, I might be able to tell you a bit more if I know exactly what you're using.
@@thedbarchives I have an Audient iD14. Not the MKII though so it doesn't have built in playback features, and I'm running into reaper and using guitar rig 6 from NI. I don't have ReaRoute which is weird cause I just updated recently. Thanks for responding so quickly
@@thedbarchives It's gotta be something with the interface because if I set A2 to my speakers, the output is fine but when I run it in A1 (ASIO) it doesn't even register in my iD14 mixer. The guitar does but not the browser audio that I see the input from dancing around teasing me. Lol also the input and output shows up in guitar rig but still no sound from guitar rig. Just the clean guitar from the interface. It's like it's bypassing the plugin even though the signal is registering. Weird
@@mr.yellowstrat3352 I'm sorry, I don't know enough about your interface to be much help. One thing to check is if the patch inserts in Voicemeeter are on. Also, Windows just did an update and that always messes with audio settings, may want to double-check your standard sound settings as well to see if anything changed.
@@thedbarchives No worries! I wound up figuring out a different method in reaper for what I was trying to do.
Hi man, we're only hearing one sound the whole time. Probably because you're not recording the DAW audio output live into another program like OBS. Hard to explain but it's just rendered out the last sound you had. Shame though cause you put in a lot of effort.
THIS IS MY PRESET. I'M GLAD YOU LIKED HIM)))
Man I followed this a couple times and still couldn't hear anything but the raw signal with no control whatsoever via the computer. Only through the knobs on the front panel of my Audiobox96. Out of sheer frustration, in VM Potato I pulled up the setting screen and started clicking everything until I clicked in the lower right corner a blue text selecting pre vs post fader and BOOM!!! It came ALIVE!! Thank fucking God. I was about out of hair to pull out. Thought I would mention it in case someone else was unaware of that being a selection.
Thank you for sharing and I'm so happy you got it sorted! I realized much later that I didn't mention pre vs post - so thank you again for help!
@@thedbarchives No problem. It's here for the determined among us to find it in the comments.
