Working steam in Bosnia and Herzegovina October 2021
In October 2021 I was fortunate to visit Bosnia and Herzegovina with the aim of tracking down the last remaining working steam in Europe.
On the 28th October 2021, with no real information about the steam workings, a group of friends and I set off from Sarajevo in a hire car, heading around 2 hours north to the coal mining region surrounding the Bosnian city of Tuzla.
We had zero expectations of being able to find any steam, but we were instantly amazed when we turned up at the Banovici colliery exchange sidings and saw a 0-6-0 Yugoslavian tank 62-125 marshalling the coal wagons.
After an hour or so here we moved up the road to the main colliery where we were again amazed to find 0-8-0 83-158 moving off shed at the Banovici coalfield narrow gauge railway. Sadly this was the only steam movement we saw in the couple of hours we were there.
We then went to Tuzla Steam shed where we were kindly shown round by a kind member of the shed staff who spoke impeccable English. This member of staff was kind enough to show us the locations of the working Kriegsloks at various collieries in the area. A short drive to Dubrave colliery allowed us to capture YR Kriegslok class 33 33-248 marshalling the coal wagons.
The whole day was an utter treat from start to finish, topped off by fantastic weather. I feel incredibly lucky to have seen working steam in 2021.
The videos are far from perfect but hopefully give a good record of some of the last working steam in the world.
Thanks for watching.

45149 first test run
Переглядів 2,6 тис.11 років тому
On the 2nd July 2013, class 45 'Peak' 45149 made its first runs on a train in preservation. This was a momentous occasion for the Cotswold Mainline Diesel Group, who have been painstakingly working on this locomotive since it first arrived in 1996. There were no apparent problems from this test. The class 47 (47376) was on the inside as a precautionary measure. The Peak took a rake of 7 Mk1 Coa...
45149 MOVES for the first time in preservation! 01/12/2012
Переглядів 10 тис.12 років тому
For the first time in preservation, Class 45 45149 took power and moved at Toddington. The 45 guys have been busy the past few months fettling and finding all the air leaks on the loco, which is an arduous task. But it has all come together and the peak finally moved, taking power from the desk. There were a few niggles, but you would expect that with a loco that hasn't moved under it's own pow...

DMU W55003 destroying detonators
Переглядів 6 тис.13 років тому
Whilst clearing out some of the stores at the GWSR, a packet of 10 detonators was found. Unfortunately, the railway does not use these in an operational manner, so they have to be destroyed. The best way to do this is to use allow the train to roll over them, detonating the detonator to produce a loud bang. Detonators were used by train crews in the old days either in foggy weather, or to signi...

Can’t Scare Me
As a Shunter at Penzance in the 70s / 80s, on occasion we had to use a 45 or 46 for Shunting purposes, if the 08 Pilot was in for maintenance, how hard that was with the heavy coupling, especially over the shed inspection pit.
Hi Dan, amazing. I want to visit the mines by my own. Do you have more specific information for me?
Hi Rudy, apologies for the delay in getting back to you. I would recommend if you're planning to visit these locations that you hire a car. We stayed in Sarajevo and drove to Banovici and Tuzla (where Bukinje depot is). You could always stay more local in Tuzla. In terms of finding the steam, we were lucky that we turned up on a day that there was a lot of activity - there's no real schedule so it can be a bit pot luck. The main locations that I would recommend looking up on google are Banovici, Dubrave, and Lukavac which are the three mines where the steam locos operate.
@@Wiggigy Hi Dan, no hard feelings. I'm glad you answered and send me tips
Last time I seen 45149 was about 1988 at Stalybridge Station 34 years ago time flys they are great sounding big beasts 🥰😍🤩
Where had it been unused for 24 years sat in a sidings rotting away somewhere sadly!!!
Thank you for your video! I am planning to go and see regular used steam locomotive!
We had them on freight at Buxton in the 70s and 80s. Mighty good at pulling 1000 tonne + stone trains!
💯 PЯӨMӨƧM
Amazing how low the rpm can go before it quite on these old sulzer
Beautiful to see/hear! I remember these old boys stopping in Chesterfield station back in the 80's... that sound!
How can it be an 8F if numbered 45160 ????
Reminds me of being 16 again, working nights on the shed at Saltley, fueling engines and moving them around the depot with a couple of "shed keys" in your pocket. Shed drivers, Sid Pell Walpole, Frank Botrell, Harold Sartorius Dickey Brown.
2 engines ????
Can't believe it started and ran so effortlessly after 24 years! Real shame to scrap such a great piece of engineering!
Fantastic
Worked at STJ for a few years,fired a few 28’s there,good engines.
I thought the 8F’s were left hand drive?
Could be as its one of the 8f's that went abroad
How many times did folks pass Cricklewood and see her rusting away over the years? Credit to those on the G & W who took countless hours restoring her to her former glory
Sulzers Clean engines. If that were an English Electric well..............
CRANK UP YOUR SPEAKERS! SULZER MUSIC!👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻🇬🇧
Lovely to see this Peak burst into like again. That was a few years ago, what is her fate these days please? Now back in the UK, I would like to travel round and catch up with these machines. I always loved the Sulzer beat - from 26 - 47s. I saw this loco quite regularly in the early 80s working between Derby - Sheffield - York. My last view of her and trip behind her, was working the Bristol - Glasgow Sleeper, from Temple Meads on 07/07/84 - Happy days!
I am sure that this engine is well maintained and regularly started. It's not starting after 24 years. Even turbo is also working. Can't believe that not started 24 years. Sorry.
Where is she now?
Dan wigg never gets invited to birthday parties
Poor kid
What a start up MAGNIFICENT.
perfect start !
Bob Bell Derby early 70's "It's a Peak lads" - Same as "Ruminauger one-nil" ....
What a load of crap should have finished painting it first.
Well done si !!
Great vid of my favourate engine. Noise is incredible.Thanks.
Is it an odd firing engine?
She started up easy ! Good job
Nice to hear again after so long.Thanks.
That started up really fast
What a boring video
Certainly helps with my Tinnitus. Thanks for sharing, shared. Love the sounds.
That started easily compared to some.
C'est un concours ????on laisse Pourrirces machines et après des décennies,'''on'''decide deles demarrer!!!!!!qu'elle Honte!:-
Nice clean Sulzer engine, if that was an EE you would need breathing apparatus to film it.
C
No way is this 24 years since it last started up maybe 24 hours
It's true I was there (and it's a sulzer not an EE)
neat
Sweet as a nut!
Is the loco still around; if so where. I recorded her in Barry in Sept.2011
why is this 8f right hand drive ?.
Could be as its one of the 8f's that were sent abroad
SWEET
better than anything EE.
