The late great Larry Phillips was a truly remarkable race car builder and driver ! Just LP being on the track challenged all other drivers who wanted to be the best, to drive harder that they thought they ever could. When he wasn't on the track, it was mundane racing. My dad and brother and I went to the races for many years to specifically watch Larry Phillips win. And win he did !! #75 🏁

A lot of great racing back in the day when it was dirt and pavement.

There’s literally an ocean of empty grandstands surrounding the few remaining tracks and cognitive defective morons think it’s a great to alienate 50% of the possible consumer base. The same morons complain about closing tracks, rising entry costs and stagnant payouts. It doesn’t matter if you can’t comprehend the negative impact. It’s called the dunning Kruger effect. Those whom are dumb are just to dumb to know their dumb. The community is plagued with this.

First late model race I ever went to Larry Phillips won the Western world at Manzanita speedway in 84 in Phoenix. Then 30 years later saw Terry Phillips win at Manzanita racing in the Early thaw series, with became the wild west shootout.

So you are the dirt rotten person that caused TP to cry in victory lane at Humboldt😂 Well I definitely got to watch TP win almost everytime he raced. There was places like Thunderbird Speedway in Muskogee and Joplin 66 Raceway when TP and Freddy Smith raced side by side for the majority of the 96 laps. Plus seeing TP race at tracks like Razorback Speedway in Fayetteville Arkansas, Tri State Speedway, and several others. Moreover, I also got to watch LP race on dirt several times at different tracks from the Tulsa Fairgrounds Speedway, Thunderbird Speedway, to Tri State Speedway and several others. The pavement racing I only found out later on when Lyle Marsh from Marsh Racing Tires and Wheels was talking about LP racing pavement some time in the 90s at what now is known as Arrowhead Speedway in West Siloam Springs, Oklahoma. Nonetheless, it was definitely a good time for me to listen and learn from LP when he would be talking with a group of people before and after the races. (On a side note when I was working with Greg Skaggs his dad John once showed me a picture of TPs modified which was his first racecar as I understood it. It was brown body car with white numbers with gold tirm around the numbers and lettering as I recall seeing it.)

Larry Phillips, Larry Moore, Jeff Purvis, and Butch Hartman could beat the best on dirt and pavement. Scott Bloomquist also had good showings in his limited pavement outings.
