Only thing that sales that guitar is the partly nitro finish. So people wan't to wear it by themselves.
This guy must be fun at parties
I have often been told as much.
I have a 60s Olympic white one and a vintera as well. There’s BARELY a difference. In fact I prefer the vintera pickups bc these feel ‘tinny’ and lack girth. Go get a used vintera ii with rosewood for 800 on reverb. It’s at least 95% the same as this. Again own both of them know them intimately. No reason to get this over a used vintera
i ve been searching for a lefty strat for several months. What Fender offers for the money is crazy. So i will have one built at Real Guitars here in Germany ( Josh Smith used to play Real Guitars on his germany tour) No Fender CS ( 5000+€, 2 years waiting) will even come close to what a hand built Real G. will deliver( 3500+/-)
Yes, sure he could build one as good or better than Fender can.
I love my players strat for 700 bucks
This is the funniest guitar review of all time!
Just wait until he hears about Gibson and their prices! This dude's head is gonna explode!
hahaha more interested in value than price tags, but yeah, the murphy labs are ridiculous.
I have been watching every UA-cam video I can find about this particular guitar. This is the only video that is a negative one. Guitars In The Attic,Mathew Scott , Andertons, Guitar Center and others all have good things to say about the Vintage II Fender 1961 Stratocaster reissue. I am thinking of purchasing this guitar. Now I am confused and very tentative about making this purchase. Do I think it’s possible that you just got a lemon? It happens. Have you checked out any others of the same model? Would be great to know.
Yes, Patrick, there are some that are good. The key is really getting your hands on one. The people you are talking about are PAID to give good reviews on the guitar. There are lots of horror stories about this model of guitars. As stated, if you can play one in person that is super important. Otherwise if you buy it unseen, be ready to pay for a pro set up, or be ready to send it back. Good Luck.
@@voyxu143 thanks for the advice
I have posted a comment before. I have searched UA-cam for videos on this subject. This is the only negative review I could find. Makes me wonder. Did this man get a lemon? Quite possibly. I have watched a video where a man has compared the vintage II to his original 1961 Stratocaster and thought that the vintage II was fantastic. Now I’m totally confused. Buy or not buy?
Great playing. I have the same guitar in white. Mine's perfect, lifetime guitar. Maybe it's the color. I always do my own set up no matter how they come, but mine had no issues. The neck radius and frets don't affect me at all. A 25.5" scale guitar with 10's will have more string tension than 9's or a shorter scale (PRS, Gibson). Some people who have 10's on a 25.5" scale guitar tune down half a step to E flat to lesson the tension.
I had the chance to buy a couple white ones but held out for the fiesta red. Glad you enjoy yours, I was hoping mine was a keeper when I bought it.
If you have any decent SSS Strat, just buy the Pure Vintage 61 pickups for $199 and be 90-95% of the way there to this guitar.
I like the 57/62 pickups. they sound great.
just now watched this and ironically tonight I was trying to buy a\the 61 fiesta red used for 1830. but the pay pal credit said it cant be used I thought with the neck tailored from the 61 and everything else it would be worth it. any way I bought a completed 61 pickguard assembly for 212. shipped from stratosphere off eBay and I already have a all parts alder feista red poly body with a decent weight and you can get a good all parts rose wood neck I build my own strats but this one I felt I would go for because of the build specs, Iam glad it did not go thru not all all parts necks are great but there are a lot of good ones Thanks for the honest review you know all the others never have anything bad to say I did like the sound of the pick ups though they said the tremolows were made with the original fender machine so you see the bs hype Thank you again for being honest
NP, and honestly, once again, you can certainly do a build as good as the guitar I ended up with. Cheers!
Aside from the buzz, it sounds great.
Agreed. I even think my vintera ii 60s strat was overpriced. Fret edges were sharp, frets needed to be polished, relief wasn’t even close, string tree was bent, nut slots were crooked, fretboard was dry as a bone. And it comes with a crap case. I sent it back and got another and the 2nd one still needed the equivalent of $100 worth of luthier work. Now that I’ve done all that it’s a great guitar but yikes. I’ve wanted a tele for a while and I’m just gonna build my own at this point
You can also buy alotta fagina for that money.
Art cost money
Hey man, did you get the guitar straight from the factory? If not then picking on some of the set up issues is a little bit cheap. Even if they are American made and only shipped within the country shipping always messes up a guitar. Different moisture content, bouncing around in the back of a semi. Those set up issues are easy fixes. Especially because I don’t see too many beginner guitarists buying a $3100 (Canadian) guitar. You must know how to fix things like action and pick up height and all the little adjustments a Strat might need.
It was adjusted. Measurements were in the vid.
As a pro lead guitarist with several Strats my 61 vintage 2 is awesome now my tech has give it a pro set up and fret dress guitars don’t turn up and play perfect maybe educate new guitarists properly !!!
hahahahaha.
Should have bought a Deluxe, Elite or an Ultra. All better.
true
ON the subject of rattling....did you put anything in the rear cavity to knock out the spring noise? They all seem to do that, and it's hard to tell if that might or might not be the rattling you're hearing. On UA-cam it's hard to tell. Kinda simple but had to ask.
I put foam in the springs to quiet them. The rattle was coming from the strings.
@@voyxu143 I see. Thanks.
I have a 63’ custom shop, if you saw the price on that you would have a heart attack.. and it looks like its been dragged behind a truck
that's not a production line guitar.
For $2200 you can buy 4-5 really cool guitars. You, buy s Mexican Stratocaster put some Seymour Duncans in and you're good to go. Or buy this 🎸. Most of your sound comes from your fingers anyway.
Yes, many many options for 2200 in today's market.
But that Fiesta Red is stellar.
Paint job was fantastic. I passed on some Olympic white ones to get the fiesta red.
@@voyxu143 I don't even like red on guitars (despite owning two of them), but I like this. To bad it's not a better guitar for you.
Well, for starters, Fender's original Classic 60's series (now re-named Vintera 2), BOTH have a ONE PIECE ALDER BODY. Not so with the American Vintage 2 1961 model. The pickups on the Classic & Vintera just plainly blow the ones on the 61 away....PERIOD! The ONLY difference between a 61 & a 62 model are the clay dots on the 61, and pearloid ones on 62's and everything after! Fender added insult to injury by calling those pickups 1961. They should have used the're 57/62's.
I am a big fan of the 57/62 pickups.
In Canada it’s $3100
Overpriced.
I own a great one built by Dan a few years ago. Would be interesting to compare to a Japanese one!
This hilarious! Totally enjoyable 😂😂
I think you just found out you don’t like tall frets and 25.5” scale length. 60’s style strats with rosewood fingerboards usually play pretty slinky in my experience. But for sure, you could of just got a lemon. Also, it’s a good idea to invest in a few simple tools too and learn how to do your own setups. Lastly, when you account for inflation these guitars are selling for like literally the same price they were going for in 1961.
Have many strats. Yes the vintage frest threw me for sure. The guitar was set up and adjusted as per the measurements in the video.
Couldn’t agree more. Mine has rattling on the bass strings, and couldn’t get a decently low action off of it
What is it adjusted to 1960’s money though?
similar
Way overpriced
Your comment maybe it's just this one may be accurate, I own the same guitar in Olympic White with the Mint pickguard, I wanted to buy it just because I loved the look of it, I could not find one in any store, they were gone as soon as they came in, I took a chance and bought one online, a demo, was supposed to have a blemish on the finish, I have had the guitar for over a year and it is my go to guitar at this point, I have other Stratocasters, an American Standard 2008, great guitar, also a Nash S-57 which was my go to before, Now these guitars are in the stores and I have played them off the wall, all the white ones play and sound nice like the one I have, however, the red ones I have played are not as good for some reason, they just don't feel right in my hands, by the way I have a 50's reissue Tele, another great guitar, the Vintage II Tele's I have played and also very good in my opinion, maybe you should try the White one or the Sunburst one
It's been a while, and back then, the red ones were impossible to find. I almost drove to see a white one that was for sale used, but ended up getting the red on online.
lol. take the guitar to a pro for a setup. Late stage capitalism mean we pay more for less every new day! Fender chucks those out the back door as fast as they can. Its normal to have to set up any guitar these days. The tension is a string thing, that same string will have the same tension on any guitar of th same scale length at the same pitch.
It was set up and adjusted. Measurements given the video.
$ 2,200 🎸😱😭
i use he same amp but find it breaks up fast even w/ my strat. what tubes did you decide on? i'm gonna try some different ones it to see if i can clean it up a touch. i put a eminence swamp thang speaker in it too for more volume...just need her cleaned up a bit. great amp though
I put a 12ay7 in the place of the 12ax7. I will look at them if you are interested and give you the whole tube layout.
@@voyxu143 I'll try that and see if it cleans up a bit, I need to throw some new JJ 6v6s in it too
You could build a much better guitar for half the money. MJT, Bloom Doom Just toname a few.
I hate when a ”brutally honest” review is one like this. It’s ridicilous that this dude is angry at the guitar and Fender because it is not perfect. You could make a review where you present it neutrally, and still telling everything that’s wrong with it. Also, Fender is just not trying to ”get some of that money” from the vintage ones. They are making the same kind of guitars available to more people for a fraction of the price. Sure, it sucks that a guitar that expensive is not perfect out of the box. A lot of retailers include a setup in the price when you get one from the store. If you know how to setup the guitar, and still it buzzes like that, you can return the guitar. If there is nothing wrong with it besides the bad setup, then you just can’t set it up. Weird that the frets are bad on your guitar. I have only heard that the AVII frets have perfect fretwork. If you don’t like those vintage style frets, it is a problem about you, not the guitar. i personally love vintage style frets. Gibson sells guitars that are just their standard line guitars, that have wayyy more problems than that Strat, and they cost more than that. And the biggest thing. You are literally paying for the vintage specs. It is ridicilous that you’re complaining about the frets feeling bad, the radius being bad etc. Those are things that some people enjoy. Get a PRS or something if you find the specs icky.
@mynameisvallu don't get me started on PRS. I will never own one and I have played many many prs guitars.
If you bought a guitar that has a bolt-on neck, you bought a TOY…
Man, you loved that guitar, admit it.
He's not a guitar player he's an audio engineer. There's no dispute about that. I guess I'm failing to get your point.
The long pauses and repeating himself is a bit annoying.
Can't please all the people all the time.
Sounds to me like the guy knows what he is talking about
Agreed but we are living in clown world. I can't survive on an isolated mountain top, so we are stuck.😈
lots of good homesteading vids on youtube.
The audio keeps dropping on the video (I'm sure it's my crappy phone). How much did you pay for it?
why did you buy it again ? your playing is great even tho its not worth the money
Honest review. Fender, like many other big companies, are greedy, the price goes up all the time and the quality of the product deteriorates. Sad fact.
This man knows his guitar
You play great and it sounds great!
Thanks!!!!
I like the honesty, thanks!i
22 hundred is a helluva lot of money for a guitar.
