The march of progress isn't always forward .. but it make for plain sailing .. bigger isn't always better, especially in farming .. Whose water is it anyway? .. planting trees is worthwhile .. how we love and lose our cats and dogs .. A trip to Oz .. Can cooperation save the Verlorenvlei? We shall see!

Weskus people and places .. Outings to farms for the local kids .. A real Weskus Krismus .. Scouts and Afrikaner Heritage .. Tornado .. The last of Gerrit Burgers Farmers Markets and Art Exhibitions .. and perhaps the Good Years too.

Tungsten mining upstream gives rise to widespread protests. We have lots of visitors and lots of new 'friends' from the animal kingdom. The Vlei is alive and life seems good .. at least for now.

We were so fortunate to have lived here at a time when Verlorenvlei was a paradise for birds insects reptiles fish .. indeed all creatures great and small. All things were bright and beautiful. They were the Good Years.

In which we see floods .. meet the Ha Man .. and find rare cave art with Tom and Tess from Muishoek.

A local Art Exhibition. A comet, birds and canoes. Maybe the drought has broken at last. The Verlorenvlei River flows into the sea. Our first real rainy winter.

In which we discover a transforming landscape and meet more friends and neighbours [human and others] in our Settlement, the coast and the farmland around us.

The House that Nick built .. sort of ..

First in a series of 10 minute videos telling the story of how we left the city and moved to a rural Heritage Settlement on the Verlorenvlei near Elands Bay on the Cape West Coast.

Veteran Verlorenvlei Forum ex Chairman and Co founder of the" Friends of Verlorenvlei" - Felicity Strange, had an idea to help young people and new residents in the area get to know about Verlorenvlei, its hinterland, friends, farmers and government allies. As she says: " It took on a life of its own" .. as you will see!

Episode 10 .. The final in a series covering two decades of life in the Sandveld beside the Verlorenvlei.

Think global act local .. This was motivated planned and run by the locals. A perfect example of a real community fun day .. Amazing what can be achieved with love and a bunch of motivated kids. Johan Laas .. friend and great musician allowed me to use his music tracks for the video .. makes for enormous fun being able to edit to a real magic music track. Thanks Baas Laas!
