Such an exciting time for all those great and charismatic characters!! What a team!!
Good job, only a note that you missed , in 20/21 , Lara missed the oportunity to fight for the overall, because the finals were cancelled. But that it is part of the game...only for the fans and attletas were a bit disapointed, but the life goes on and was exactly what she did... well done Lara you are n° 1 / champion the rest It's history.
Hey, thanks for your comment and feedback! This video was released during the 20/21 season before the finals were cancelled. That‘s why I couldn‘t include that fact in the video :)
And this season she won the Overall Crystal Globe in addition to the GS and super-G globes 🙂

Lara❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
Really informative video…thx!
Foser (FL), Koren (Slo), J. Strobl at his first victory
you forgot rob boyd..... hallo
If not for L.Vonn being around at the same time Lara would have been an unbeatable force no question. Amazing class and skill.
don't agree with labels like 'controversial' and 'Lara - good or bad?' - she's just striving to be the best and the sporting world has many bigger prima donnas than her. Seriously, how can anyone not like her??
What about Rob Boyd?
stupid and senseless rule, which does not exist anymore.
She is so smoking hot!
Interesting points and highlights in the video, thanks. Lara, is a very admirable & impressive young woman, a fabulous skier and great role model for young athletes female and male. It's so refreshing to have the top athletes shown to stand for their beliefs. This is the slow but subtle steering of the FIS & organizing committees towards acting in a more mature/professional and respectful manner towards the racers, whom they do a tremendous amount of effort and work for. However they don't seem very capable of recognizing that once the athletes have been on the circuit for a few seasons and have shown their due respect while earning their individual successes that they MUST also respond with respect and show an ability to evolve with the athletes in a mutually respectful manner that gratefully acknowledges the athletes hard earned maturity and recognizes the need to treat the athletes as the MAJOR players in the circus that they are. It's good and big business for everyone involved and it must be a fully shared responsibility with the actions and respect deserved.
Let's Go Alpine Canada!
Growing up in Mississauga, Ontario Canada. I loved watching the Crazy Canucks on CBC Sports on TV.
There is a 2004 film - called the crazy canucks, filmed partly in St Anton, it's a good film.
They are both great athletes. I would say right now that Petra is the better one. She did not know everything (or even much) about SG and DH at the start of her winner of the Overall World Cup season. Yet she managed to try hard without great experience in those two disciplines. She did enough to win the Big Crystal Globe. You have to take your hat off to her.

I am 58 yo from Italy.... big fan of Steve Podborski
Primarily growing up and skiing Whistler since 1970, we are all, and always will be, "Crazy Canucks"! Thanks guys for the inspiration to all of the racers that keeps them going. You guys are what legends are made up of.

Von is without the second best female skier in the history of the sport 😊
Wonderful video. I like how you did the bios of each athlete from start to finish. This was exactly what I was searching for. Thank you
Thanks for the upload. Well edited. 👍
Vonn best ever😂 Shiffrin say not if you ask me 😂
Did you really just comment on a 2.5 year old video now that Shiffrin got the same amount of WC wins as Vonn to say I was wrong? Shiffrin had 66 WC wins when this video was made so idk what you‘re on about
@@alpinestartgate we all know this would happened but faster but that happened what happened and yes she win overall last year but this is Mikaela the goat first over 100 wins, i am croatian but Shiffrin is better than Kosteelić, Vonn, Paerson, Vreni, Katja, Tina, Mosser Prell she is so good, soon she will be with most gs wins female but Stenmark is far away
If the snow conditions at Crans Montana were very humid then the race becomes very dangerous for the competitors knees as the skis become VERY “grabby” on the snow and the slightest error can result in a skiers knees getting wrecked. If those were the conditions - or suchlike - then from a coaches perspective they would be deemed highly inappropriate to race on. From a racers perspective, someone who has their very skiing career on the line, plus a great deal of pain and effort in recovery for their troubles it’s a different story entirely. So giving an opinion that illustrates the Seriousness of such a situation from her perspective - that of saving her own and fellow competitors knees - takes a Seriously Higher priority than running the race. It’s a dangerous sport already, increasing the dangers to DANGEROUS levels would show a lack of concern for the racers wellbeing and would, under those circumstances, for example, justify and excuse such a response. As that really is the reality of the situation and the THATNESS of things. It would be interesting to know the full background to that episode. As she got away with it I’m guessing that after consideration at the hearing it must have been deemed a valid comment - there are circumstances where such remarks are justified ie: “That you got us to race that Nightmare! To risk our knees and more just so you could run the competition!? What about our knees?!! What about our careers?!! Are you trying to destroy us? Where’s the empathy? Where’s the consideration? Where’s the common humanity?” And at the hearing: “Dear Panel, I’m here today just to justify my remarks on the racing conditions at Crans Montana. Under the conditions present on the day, whereby our knees were in great danger of getting destroyed, how would you feel if they were your knees on the line?.... Yeah, I thought so too.....” Case dismissed. Fair comment - under those conditions from the racers perspective.
To get those results she is a Realist. Her wins indicate quite profoundly that Lara Gut-Behrami is good at dealing well with the THATNESS of things. And to get where she has she must naturally have a congenial side... (plus, who ever heard of Swiss people getting irate?) There must have been a very good reason, how about looking there before any condemnation?) From the account of her in the video she seems the kind of girl that “does no harm but takes no shit” - that’s well balanced. Respect ✊
in 1976 the Olympics have held in Innsbruck The Swiss and Canadian Ski Team were in our Town Training for the Event Scuol in Switzerland in located just across the Austrian Border. The Canadian Team was our Heroes they talked to us and interacted with us, and the Swiss Team held their Noses High . From there on we were chanting Go Canucks Go
Go Lara. She can speak for herself and IMO she is right on her stances.
This is a very good, accurate video of the "Crazy Canucks"....I can only expand on a couple of details in your video. In the early days when "Jungle Jim" Hunter was part of the team, it traveled through Europe from race to race crammed into a VW bus....while racers on European teams went "first class" all the way, all day and night...funded by manufacturers, national bodies and rabid fans / wealthy patrons. While European ski teams had funding for an abundance of coaches, trainers and technicians....the Canadian team had one coach, one physical trainer and one ski tech. On European teams the competition to be on the team was fierce. There was a depth of hopefuls just below them in the development system waiting for an opportunity to move up. Skiers on European teams were essentially competing against each other for their spots on the team and were reluctant to cooperate/help each other. Contrast that with the underfunded, short staffed Canadian team: There was nobody waiting in the wings to take their place, anyone on the team doing well was a win....which is why the first thing a Canadian racer did after crossing the finish line back then was to reach for a radio to relay some information/detail to his teammates still in the start area. This type of racer to racer cooperation simply did not exist on European teams at the time and was a factor in the "Crazy Canucks" success. As for their popularity with European fans.....EVERYBODY loves an underdog....in any sport.... the sheer recklessness they displayed in their skiing was just the icing on the cake!
АМАЗОНКИ!!
Gut .
For the longest time it felt like she was cursed at World Championships and the Olympics, she just couldn't win. For awhile it felt like she would go down in history as the greatest Alpine Skiier never to win any gold medals at major international competitions. As a long time fan, seeing her overcome that and finally win not only one but two gold medals in Cortina 2021 and securing her legacy by claming a gold in Beijing 2022 made me really happy.
Actually Italy has already done 2 podium sweeps, in the 2017 Aspen GS and in 2018 bad Kleinkirchheim DH
thank you for this .
Brillant work!
Awesome video, thank you very much. We would have killed to get our hands on a pair of those red and white gloves with the maple leaf on the back.
Great video man! This group of guys motivated me to start ski racing. To enter and already dominated sport in Europe and make the mark they did makes me smile and puts canada on the map. Thanks for reinforcing this some more! I learned things I didn’t realize
Great job on this documentary! Brings back a lot of great memories I have following the Crazy Canucks during the 70s.
I would be so happy to see you upload again ! Your videos are just great. I have never anything like this on UA-cam for Ski Racing....please come back ! :D
Thank you for this great profile, such an informative and well-crafted short biography ! I like how you both captured her genius and her controversy without being disrespectful ! I am a big fan of Lara but of course you have to view everything objectively and not fan out too much 😁😁 that being said she is still awesome !! 💙💪🏻
Lara Gut and Corinne Suter ... What a 1 - 2 punch for Switzerland! And now both Olympic champions!!
Well, there are plenty of trainings with time on the same courses, but the only comparison you could make from an actual race is from the Super-G runs of the 2021 combined world championsship. As far as I remember the best women's time was around 2 seconds behind the mens best time. Obviously you have to consider that the men raced after the women on their piste and a course set for th women, so the difference would be a lot bigger if they for example raced a downhill on the Sreif, but it's a good estimate.
Saying Gisin is a former speed specialist is kind of a stretch
Didier Défago one of the top 8 Underdogs? Man already won Wengen and Kitzbühel at that point
