Mike Landry Railroad Memories
United States
Приєднався 10 кві 2024
This channel consists of film and video I shot or collected over the years. Technical quality is not always great, given the use of 8mm film and my teenage and young adult lack of photographic skills, but there are things of historical interest, I believe.
My interest in railroading stems from growing up near Grand Trunk Western's Detroit Division, one of the last places of U.S. steam operations. A Lionel train set my grandparents gave me when I was four also contributed.
I ran into some software snags with my older UA-cam channel which is called "Mike Landry Rail Memories," because of just that -- it was old. So I migrated everything over here to Mike Landry Railroad Memories ("Railroad," not "Rail").
The videos from the old channel are here and if you are subscribed to the old channel but not this one, please sign up in order to get the latest items. And if you're not subscribed at all, please do so, and welcome aboard!

Durango & Silverton in the Snow
It's December, 2001, and there's snow along the route of the Durango & Silverton Narrow Gauge Railroad as we ride to Cascade Canyon.

Just three days before the dramatic events of 9-11-2001, we're having a peaceful day in a light rain watching the final days of steam operations on an Arkansas tourist line.
Georgetown Loop

About 2000 I took video of Colorado's Georgetown Loop, considered, after it was built in 1884, as one of Colorado's first tourist attractions. There's a remarkable Billy Bitzer movie of riding the loop in 1903. It's at ua-cam.com/video/XB0rtiuSknw/v-deo.html

From 1988 to 2002 the St. Louis Steam Train Association operated St. Louis and San Francisco ("Frisco") 4-8-2 No. 1522 in excursion service. The engine was then returned to display at the National Museum of Transport in St. Louis where it had been since 1959. Here we see the 1522 on a 2001 employees' appreciation trip of the Burlington Northern Santa Fe Railroad.

Until 2013, the Arkansas & Missouri Railroad was entirely powered by a fleet of Alco locomotives. Some remain. Here are views of the A&M in the 1990s and, I believe, around 2003.
Ohio Central diesel-steam excursion, fall, 2002 featuring ex-Grand Trunk Western 6325.

Since 2013 I've had online a video called "The Perfect Time Machine," about taking a nostalgic journey in 2002 behind former Grand Trunk Western 6325 and the memories it stirred of living near GTW in the age of steam. I was asked to provide footage from that video of 6325 without narration, so that's what you'll find here. The 6325 is preserved at the Age of Steam Roundhouse at Sugarcreek, Ohio.
5629 Returns to Home Rails

Controversy has long surrounded ex-Grand Trunk Western 4-6-2 Number 5629 in regards to how it was scrapped. But there were happier days in the 1960s as the engine returned to GTW tracks.

The CATS has come a long way since its founding as a tourist line in 1971, preserving part of the old Denver & Rio Grande Western narrow gauge. We get on a train out of Chama in 2015 and then look at CATS scenes from the early 1970s.

A 1963 combined diesel steam excursion on Grand Trunk Western and Canadian National

Michigan railfans enjoyed steam excursions in the 1950s through 1961, but steam was gone. So in 1963, a diesel train took people from Michigan to Canada to ride behind steam there.

Excellent work👍
What happened? And wheres the engine now?
Great question. Where is it?
found her. She is at Sherley Heritage Park in Anna, Texas.
Real life train we bare bear the movie 😮
I remember seeing this locomotive back in the early ‘90s. The guys there saw a kid in love with trains, and let me help turn the engine on the turntable. I’ll never forget that. Wish I could go back and find the men that I met that day and tell them that they helped inspire me to become a lifelong railroader. 26 years so far, 20 of them as an engineer.
Kinda sad how the original C&LC couldn't make a go of it, but at least they tried....
Sure would’ve loved to see this engine when it operated. Shame it’ll likely never run again.
I remember riding in the Conneaut in the rain coming into Newark and some bicyclists were pacing the train on the bike path and we were having quite an interesting conversation. Good times. (that's me cleaning the number plate)
This makes me miss the OHCR Steam Program.
@@DillonTrinhProductions Me too! 😖😖😖
That six-chime whistle will always resonate my soul! 😌😌😌😌😌
Man this engine was magnificent in operation.
why was it the last day of steam operations? did they have to get rid of the locomotive or smth?
This video is of a day in the last season of steam operations. A state-mandated boiler rebuild shut the locomotive down, according to Wikipedia. Beginning in 2002 I was aware of only the railroad's SW-1 diesel in use on the railroad.
@@MikeLandryRailroadMemori-mn7efdon’t both moguls need new boilers are just one of them
What a storied history, working on the Panama Canal. So built in the USA, shipped down south, then back to the USA and surviving to be on a tourist railroad. I never heard of this line before and will have to look up its history.
201 is on display Anna Texas
I saw BNSF 2982 back in August sitting in saginaw
do you think you will upload all of your videos of the grand trunk western 6325 without narration
I hadn't thought of that. However, it would require conversion from analog to digital and I've got quite a few other tapes needing that treatment. But it's a good idea and I'll keep that in mind.
A lot of my video of 6325 without narration is now on the channel.
Great video, thank you for sharing.
