EDM & Old School Hardstyle Genre Production in Music. Natural 90s kid that grew up listening to all the EDM I could get my hands on! In both an unfortunate and fortunate position to make this possible! So lets make this happen! Final work will be submitted here as another platform. Samples and other work / collaborative work will be on my bandlab profile.
Feedback: How to write a melody in Hardstyle EDM
(I will update with a voiceover once I can fix my audio issue 9/23/24)
HyperArtic in OPS discord had made a comment about wanting to know a good approach on learning how to write your own melodies?
I feel like the responses he got were not adequate enough.. So this is a video with no voice over (experienced some audio issues this evening) showing how to
- Set your keys up for the scale you are working in - so youre ALWAYS hitting the key in the scale youre working in!
- Learning how to write your bass notes
- Building your chord progression and using IT - as your "cheat sheet" for your melody creation!
** Notice during the play through of the chord progression that the chords sound off.. play your keys and follow it with either your mouse arrow or your eyes and make sure that each note is on the key that youre hitting! Because this is how you learn if you are in KEY! **
( Yes.. there are other ways of 'doing this'.. but this is my approach and how you should LEARN and not rely.. on the back drop.. when you should be training your ears! )
- Learning how to write inside the chord progression for your melody so that you will remain in key with your chords! So if you choose to drop your chords down an octave or bump that melody up one octave?
You now have a quick "how to guide" on how to make a melody with your desired kick style to fit your "lead sound" design.

This is how most people starting out who produce EDM music that are wanting to write their own lyrics typically start. Its so common to work in this setting because everyone learns how to make the music before they think about how the lyric content comes into play. My dad made a comment about how he would like this as an alarm for his phone. Well dad? Happy fathers day! If you dont know about @noteasybeinwheezy you need to. Super under rated vocal artist!
