    As a German I can say: I agree with you 100 percent! Many others will deny it because of own false pride but you are spot on correct with all the points you are saying. People here have little joy, very negative mindset and narrow outlook on life. I always say people who are very bright and openminded, dreamers, pioneers and adventurers in life, who like to try out new things, Germany isn't the place. Germany is very fixated, go to school and then get a job and work until you are old, then die. and dont forget to pay your taxes ;) Germany isn't for everyone, I will also leave here soon. Finally! Wishing you all the best in your new home :) Croatia is a beautiful place with beautiful people who know the art of enjoying the little ordinary things which makes life special.

    I find the origin of words - etymology - including word borrowing to be endlessly fascinating and as you end the video by saying: they embody a record of the interconnectedness of humanity. Besides direct borrowings, a language will often adopt words which have already travelled through two or more other languages, with their meanings and sounds changing along the way, as well as undergoing additions or subtractions, which can make some word origins very complex. It's important to bear in mind that many word origins are unclear or are disputed and we may always have to live with uncertainty on the ultimate origin or the particular pathway of some words. My own interest in language in general was first sparked when I began to learn of the immensely varied origin of English words many years ago, as well as the intrinsically mongrel nature of English itself - being a Germanic language supplemented with a massive French contribution as a result of the Norman conquest of 1066. The subsequent rise of the British empire brought in a huge number of words from across the world, all with stories to tell. Many non-English people are peeved to see so many English borrowings today arising out of American cultural dominance - a feeling I have some sympathy with, but this is just a phase of contemporary history. In time, other cultures will come to the fore and their words will diffuse into other languages, just as English has been enriched through its enormous intake of words from the languages of historically dominant societies such as the ancient Greeks, Romans (Latin) and Arabs. The Icelandic language sits In sharp contrast to this word odyssey (a Greek word) as they create new words for innovations from their own linguistic roots out of a policy of language purism. For example, computer is _tölva_ - tala (number) völva (prophetess); astronaut is _geimfari_ - geim (space), fari (traveller); telephone is simply _sími_ (thread or wire). This policy may come across as introverted and insular (a Latin word), but it has a distinct charm of its own.

    Some negative aspects , but there are positive one but they are not the topic here : 1. In my experience one problem in Germany is lack of, i would name it spirituality and awareness, thus letting often to dehumanization and lack of empathy. You can say something that is bothering you emotionally and someone may say it is not my business. People are living beings, they are not career, not social status, not workers, regardless of race etc. etc/ they were once or still are sons and daughters of someone, with struggles , families and emotions. Separating the two entities in everyday life is not just a characteristic of society that could be accepted, it is bad thing if it is at this level. It is the core of some evil structures, like wars, totalitarian regimes etc... 2. Political Ideologies - I wish there were not anything that resembles Nazism anymore, but as a core concept is there again in my observation. 3 from 5 years at the unit i was told how bad AFD people are, aka to perceive them negatively. I won't , i also won't hate or have negative feelings toward lefties with which i was involved, with which I also don't agree, but yes, i am pissed by ideologies, not by individuals who are following them. Their life is in some aspects ruined. Instead of enjoying live, they are focused on toxic emotions. I am gonna try love people. Both sides are having it. Overall the The idea is not there, but mentality is, regardless totalitarian tendencies 3. Separations. - left-right, gay- straight, woman - man., black- white, German - foreigner etc. You are rarely seen just as you and your personality. While stereotypes are often true and do exist, people often are often failing to see you outside this context, and it is not exclusively by Germans btw, everything above is characteristics of society as a whole. 4. Lack of freedom of speech : yes, you can say everything and you will earn hidden enemies, lose job etc, because rarely someone is saying what he is thinking outside his inner circle. While holding your tongue behind your lips is often a sign of wisdom, respect etc., at this level i name it hypocrisy , deceive , lying and self-deluding. Saying opinion outside established frames is seen badly and offensive, while people have such opinions, as not liking or liking something not widely accepted they would deny it. 5. At least where i live : Atheism and individualism. There is no moral system, outside political correctness and widely accepted narratives that really puts meaningful frame on what you can do. No one is talking in my experience about greed, Jealousy, dishonesty, vanity, arrogance and many many more, .... But the people who should have least word on this aka politicians are defining some of this. What the **** is this. How should i trust someone who is extremely opportunistic, basically a predator and vulture , who clamed the power structure will define оther people as good and bad . . Everything can be accepted as long as society accepting it. The core idea that human can define good and evil is wrong, but this is my opinion, but discussion won't change it... But here it is, people here are thinking they are superior morally than previous generations, while they are certainty NOT. But this is complex topic. Your God is often redirected to career, social status and self-worshipping . While all of this exist everywhere

    I left Germany (as German) in 2005 to move to the US - long before Germany suffered all the social and economic issues as of now. I am shocked if I visit once every one or two years for a few weeks how much my home country has worsened - very bureaucratic, missed digitalization, horrible customer service everywhere. Believe me, you won't regret in the future that you left. I myself won't live there again. I grew up there in the best times (which were the 90s IMO), and Germany being superior in economy and innovation in the EU. Politics did severe mistakes in the past 20 years with consequences very visible now. Worst of all - it is not safe anymore, the crime rate is crazy high. But officially the people in Germany live in the best Germany as never before - big joke. I hope people in Germany make their vote count in February to cause significant change.

    Well, I have heard several misunderstandings. And cearly a wrong understanding how economy and pricing works. It might be not your fault but there are many people in Germany who refuse to learn the language for decades. And when English becomes the dominant language for ordering food in some areas people might be annoyed. A lot of your points miss the bigger picture. Comparing Germany with Croatia is a huge mistake in this topic. Tourism is a quite big part of the economy there so it is pretty understandable that the companies want to make the vacation experience for customers good, also by offering communication in German. German companies offer communication in English and other languages also. But you expect the customers to offer you a language you can speak. That is a pretty clear difference in mindset, right? People come to Germany with goals. And people can achieve a lot. The german state offers social benefits just after a few years for foreigners. So I am not sure if the german State or people should focus on your individual feelings or your will to bring something to Germany. But you are right with bureaucracy. It is just too much. The homeless are basicially foreigners who did not make it in Germany. I dont know the number for Germany. But in Berlin 90% of the homeless are foreigners. There is not even 1 German who needs to sleep outside. Living like this is a decision for Germans. Anyway, life is full of decisions and you made yours already and there will be many more in future. I wish you all the best.

      @@Tiefschlag Thank you for your comment! I wish you the same. I agree that my points might miss a bigger picture, but they are based on my individual experience. As for the language aspect, I’m not expecting the customer to offer me a language I speak. I totally understand the importance of learning the local language when living in another country. I wasn’t saying that German people need to speak English to foreigners, I was talking about some flexibility from people who speak English. I compared to Croatia only because I live here now, but you can take another country. As a foreigner you’re always a bit stressed and it feels nice when people are welcoming and friendly even though you don’t speak the language yet. I also recognise that Germany offers many opportunities if you have some ambitious goals. I guess I wasn’t ready for many obstacles on my way. But living there also helped me understand better what I really wanted, so I’m happy I had this experience.

    • @Tiefschlag
      @Tiefschlag 6 днів тому

      @@siasea_lang Life is a journey, isnt it? 🙂 I can completely understand that migrants feel stressed. Making a big step in life like moving to another country comes always with a price. Nobody says it is easy to pay. And I believe you came in a political very unlucky time to Germany. Germany is no classic immigration country. For example: It lacks the ability to integrate people to society. The school system is completely unprepared for children with special needs like language training, psychological support or other needs. And you mentioned already that the bureaucracy does not fit to the reality of migration. This is just true. Germany does not even have a real immigration law. Because of this chaos and the huge amount of people who entered Germany refugees and (high skilled) migrants became basicially one mass of people in media and politics. People might argue if its right or wrong to keep people in the country which are no refugees and not productive. But the existence of those people is no benefit for someone who really wants to start something in Germany. Without judging it, many Germans are just tired of those topics and the issues with it. You just came here in this environment of political exhaustion. I am pretty sure you would have faced a very different Germany 15 or 25 years earlier. In addition I can also understand that cultural differences, bigger differences in wealth between "old" and new "home country", the language, social contacts and other topics can be a challenge. I have no idea, if German is really hard to learn. I could imagine that Polish is not easier to master. Perhaps it depends from which native language we start. Anyway, there is a famous stereotype about migration. The engineer from India who drives a Taxi in New York City. Perhaps funny in movies. But in reality a tough price to pay for a better future. In many countries, also Germany, this picture is not very far away from truth. If you found a better proportion between price and benefit in Croatia plus happyness your choice might be right.🙂

      @ I totally agree. Many people who had moved to Germany over 10-15 years ago told me it was very different back then. I still believe Germany is much better for career than Croatia. The salaries here are low, especially if you work in the IT area, it just doesn’t make sense to stay here. However if you’re a freelancer (like me now), there are a lot of advantages for you here. That’s said, to each their own. The main thing is to feel happy where you are.

      Germany would have more migrants who want to learn the language and work if the government made it a bit easier for them. Apparently, It’s much easier to live on welfare without working or doing anything. The government created perfect conditions for that. The process is clear and straightforward. But if you want to work and be kind of independent , you’ll have to go through all nine circles of bureaucratic hell. So it’s not surprising some people will want to take advantage of it. What is surprising for me is people who consider themselves “educated” still dividing people into “us” and “them” based on the language or nationality.

    [I write in German, because she is learning german] Ich habe eine Menge seltsame Geschichten über die Ausländerbehörde gehört. Ich habe einen Kollegen aus Syrien, der 10 Monate nach seiner Flucht begann, in deutschen Software-Projekten zu arbeiten. Er macht das nun seit 7 Jahren und bemüht sich seit einigen Monaten um die deutsche Staatsangehörigkeit. Damit könnte er Freelancer werden und mehr Geld verdienen. Er hat die vielen Dokumente ausgefüllt und abgegeben. Nun weiss er nicht, wie lange die brauchen, um den Antrag zu bearbeiten. Das kann zwischen 2 und 10 (!) Monate in Anspruch nehmen. Das ist völlig irre. Viele Deutsche beschweren sich, dass hier viel weniger Flüchtlinge in den Arbeitsmarkt integriert sind als in den Niederlanden oder Dänemark. Aber wenn die Hürden für den Arbeitsmarkt so hoch sind und die Sozialhilfe so vergleichsweise umfangreich, dann müssen wir uns nicht wundern. Ohne die vielen arabischen und osteuropäischen Kollegen wäre die IT in Deutschland auf jeden Fall in einem noch schlechterem Zustand. Das Wort für eine Wohnung mit Küche und Möbel heißt "möblierte Wohnung". Sie existieren. Frankfurt ist vergleichsweise teuer. Kleiner Ort in der Nähe kann alles mögliche heißen. Orte nördlich von Frankfurt sind sehr teuer. Offenbach ist günstiger, aber das liegt in der Einflugschneise des Flughafens. Aktuell gibt es einen starken Mangel an kleinen Wohnungen in Großstädten, nicht nur wegen der Flüchtlinge. Es ist nicht absehbar, dass dieser Mangel kurzfristig behoben wird. Ich habe es oft in Projekten erlebt, dass sich viele der insbesondere vor 1980 geborenen Deutschen sehr schwer tun, wenn sie plötzlich Englisch sprechen sollen. Sie verstehen zwar viel, fühlen sich aber nicht sicher beim Sprechen. Sie können das einfach nicht besonders gut. Dänen, flämische Belgier, Niederländer, Schweden und Finnen haben damit überhaupt keine Probleme. Warum? In den kleineren europäischen Ländern wurden viele Filme nicht übersetzt. Die nach 1980 geborenen Deutschen lernten Englisch im Internet. Viele der älteren Deutschen schämen sich für ihr Englisch, obwohl sie es durchaus könnten. Nur halt nicht so gut. Ihr schlechtes Englisch ist aber unter ihrer Würde als Deutscher. Sprachen lernt man, indem man sie spricht. Also werden sie irgendwann mit ihrem schlechten Englisch sterben. Deutschland befindet sich aktuell politisch in einer Art Identitätskrise. Wir lebten lange Zeit von unseren gut ausgebildeten Ingenieuren. Deren Produkte liessen sich sehr gut auf dem Weltmarkt verkaufen. Nun gibt es plötzlich eine viel stärkere Konkurrenz aus Ostasien für Maschinen und Autos. Außerdem haben wir Probleme mit unseren wichtigsten Exportmärkten in China und den USA. Die guten Ingenieure bilden nur eine kleine Minderheit der Deutschen, aber die anderen konnten lange Zeit sehr gut davon leben. Die Löhne in Deutschland sind noch höher als in vielen Nachbarländern. Es fragt sich halt wie lange.

    • @siasea_lang
      @siasea_lang 7 днів тому

      Vielen Dank für Ihren Kommentar. Ich habe ebenfalls bemerkt, dass es für Geflüchtete oft einfacher ist, nichts zu tun und Sozialleistungen von Deutschland zu beziehen. Wenn man jedoch arbeiten und sich schneller integrieren möchte, muss man viele Hürden überwinden. Meiner Meinung nach liegt das Hauptproblem darin, dass Deutschland so leben möchte, wie es vor zehn Jahren war. Aber die Welt entwickelt sich weiter, und es ist wichtig, mit ihr Schritt zu halten.

      Illegal eingereiste Personen sollten nie eingebürgert werden. Wer als Asylant aus einem sicheren Land gekommen ist, muss gehen. Asylern Jobs zu geben, verzehrt den Arbeitsmarkt. Man kann ihnen eine "Überlebenshilfe" geben, aber sie sind Bürger ihrer Länder, wo sie bei der erstbesten Möglichkeit zurück müssen. Wollen sie legal hier arbeiten, sollen sie aus dem Land legal mit Visa und dem ganzen Hofprotokoll einreisen. Als ASylant sollen sie lediglich einen STandard wie im Sudan genießen. Ich habe selbst Migrationshintergrund und kein Mensch hat für mich eine Ausnahme gemacht, mich in meier Muttersprache arbeiten zu lassen. Lerne Deutsch und arbeite, hieß es. Nun ja. Jetzt habe ich einen MINT - Abschluss und ich werde den Teufel tun, einen Ausländer ohne C1 Deutsch zu "integrieren". Nicht auf der Arbeit, denn ich bin kein Dolmetscher, auch wenn ich Englisch kann. Was Asylanten angeht, hier gibt es ein Vertrauensproblem. Wie kann man jemandem trauen, der aus einem sicheren Land unbedingt nach DE will - ein Land von Antidiskriminierungsbeauftragten, wo Rassimus nur so gedeiht?

Whenever I've discontinued study, I always come back refreshed and don't feel I've really lost what I'd learned - my aptitude comes back quickly and I progress beyond the level at which I paused.
