growing up in the UK i watched Newsradio back when it was out, but had no context on who was who, never having seen SNL. Just rewatched it and Phil Hartman was so the star in that show. Knowing the story and no disrespect to Jon Lovitz, but i can't watch past Series 5 Ep 1 (i just rewatched it over the last couple of days). I was upset knowing what occured to him, nearly 30 years after the fact. Phil Hartman definitely had that rare talent, he made every scene he was in that extra special

I absolutely hate Andy Dick, I truly think he is one of the worst types of people there are. However I do have to say I don't think he is necessarily the case of Phil's death. I mean if it was the case that she had been totally sober and at the Christmas party he was bringing blow out and pulling people aside to do some thats one thing, bringing drugs into an environment that temps a sober person is a dick move. But on the other hand she was an adult and chose to do it. Addiction is absolutely a mental disease but people still often forget there is still a personal responsibility aspect that's on the individual. In times of people dying and overdosing or what not people are often in grief and looking for blame to place on someone and while the person who gave them the drugs isnt completely innocent they are not soley to blame either. Especially in this scenario with how tumultuous things already had been.

When the 90s cast of SNL appeared on an anniversay show (not long after Phil died) Jon Lovitz introduced a segment paying tribute to him. Lovitz called Phil his brother and could BARELY get through it, the other cast members were holding his hand to help him get the words out. I fully believe he would beat the crap out of someone for even being tangentially responsible for Hartman's death.

This makes sense to me. I remember thinking Andy Dick was harmless on NewsRadio. But I’ve heard so many stories over the years from different people who worked with him that he’s a drug fueled a$$hole who ALWAYS takes it to far. That plus the low key SA(ing) people or invading personal space (you pick). I don’t know much about Jon Lovitz behind the camera, but Phil Hartman was well loved by everyone. Basically, he was a nice guy. It wasn’t that Andy gave the drugs to Phil’s wife, I think it was the seemingly lack of awareness of his actions that sets people including Jon off.
