High Performance 283 Engine Teardown
Переглядів 18 тис.Рік тому
I responded to an ad that read High Performance 283 and decided to reach out to the seller , I committed to purchase the engine and the seller was nice enough to hold it for me. I wanted the angle plug cylinder heads that turned out to be not what I was hoping for. We are going to do a 2 part teardown for this interesting old school build , part 2 will follow soon!
Trailblazer Envoy P0128 Code, Thermostat And Clutch Fan Replacement

Fixing the P0128 error code on a Chev Trail Blazer. Clutch fan and thermostat replaced! This Trailblazer had sent the same code at least a dozen times during the winter and the clutch fan checked out as well , clicking and making noise so I did a quick video of the repair. I did not inspect the other thermostat and am not sure (exactly) what the issue was with it(I knew it was running cool thou...

    And i wish i would thout about using those hose caps so I didn't have a whole tank of wiper fluid all over. Lol But i'm gonna have to check around that area. Because I filled it up, and it seems like it went down within about 3 days. but I have come across 2 things that were very hard to get to. Which were the 2 back spark plugs? And I had to change the oil pressure, somethings, I think it's called, right on top of where the oil filter goes. And it was so hard to get anything in that area

    Thanks so much. I had to take my windshield fluid holder. Did you have to put new rubber pieces that those two motor things that push into the tank that the wires plug into. I've been learning on my 04 Envoy by watching these videos. Im learning alot it just cost miney to buy the tools, jack, and jack stans to start. I actually enjoyed it all summer. But living in an apartment, i have to do everything out front. And with living in Northern Indiana, it gets really cold that put a stop on me. But ill be out there today to start with checking fuses Because when I was outdoor - in last night. My gas needle wasn't going up really too much like it usually would.

    In 1956, 2nd year of the SBC and the first year of the 283, you could have ordered a 11/1 compression, Duntov solid lifter 283, if you checked the right box at the dealer. In LATE 1955, the first year of the Sbc, you could have ordered a 265ci, With 11/1 compression, Duntov solid lifter cam setup. The MOST RARE, of the sbc's because it was the first hi performance parts you could have had on that first year sbc from the factory.

      @kh40yr 24 дні тому

      @jaysgarage3616 The 265 gained about 40hp with the 1955 option parts, and the 283 was about 90hp extra with the 1956 option parts. I realize that is nothing compared to all the stuff that came afterwards, but a neat part of it's history.

    Jay where is a good place to buy cam and lifters for a 1992 350 TBI? I keep hearing news about a plague of bad cams and lifters not even surviving break-in.

    • @jaysgarage3616
      @jaysgarage3616 Місяць тому

      That is true , I have been lucky so far with basic components (enginetech) for stock style rebuild for cam and lifters but lifters seem to be more of an issue , if you stay hydraulic maybe the GM performance lifters 12371044 with a near stock cam , to avoid custom tuning. Cam something like a Melling CCS-2 (stock replacement) , I have tried other grinds with mixed results so it's tough to recommend plus things or products change without notice as many company's are just re-boxing parts.

    Bought a 283 shortblock in the spring, it's a 58 fuel injected Vette engine still on the stock bore. I pulled one piston out of it and the rod bearing doesn't even look like it's been run. It has dome pistons I guess 11 to 1 maybe, and they're short little buggers, looks like it's been balanced. I think I'm going to stick it in my 55 Belair, kind of a heavy car but I can still have some fun with it. I have a pair of 462 2.02 fuelie heads I thought about using on the 283 but with the stock bore I'm wondering if I'm going to have trouble with the valves hitting the pistons, some have told me they'll be fine, and others say the valves will hit.

    • @jaysgarage3616
      @jaysgarage3616 Місяць тому

      I have never had a 2.02 on a 283. I looked at some other comments people have made on other sites and there are several experiences/opinions. If you have the .400 dome piston you would be high 9s on compression with an open chamber head but if you want to run the heads you have it may require some checking , what cam is in there?

    I practically poop my pants whenever I take the hub and balancer off my LT1 (it's basically a small block chevy). I have two of them, one when I took off the factory hub the tool broke when it was about halfway off so I smacked it the rest of the way off with a hammer and block of wood. Both have a super damper on now and those are really deep and need a special took to take off (the crow foot won't do it). When I say you impact it off I almost had a heart attack!

    Do the same rules apply for a second gen s10? And are shorty headers easier to deal with?

      They are very similar , the 2nd gen seemed a little better than this truck but very minor.

    Can anyone tell me where the pipe plugs go into the block?

      The back of the block around the cam plug , also in the coolant passage above the oil pan near the middle of the block if the original plugs are gone.. Hope this helps!
