We explored the beautiful Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore near Munising, Michigan on a cruise and a hike. America’s first National Lakeshore is along the southern shore of Lake Superior in Michigan’s beautiful Upper Peninsula. With stunning beaches, 10 inland lakes, and nearly 100 miles of trails, there's an unlimited array of things to see. The cruise is highly recommended.

We explored the fantastic and beautiful Mill Ruins Park and Mill City Museum in Minneapolis, Minnesota. Completed in 2001, it brought the old abandoned milling district back to life in the form of a museum and park where you are free to wander the remnants of an era long gone to history.

We explored the Apostle Islands in the glass bottom cruise where we were able to see the wrecks of the Bermuda (1860-1870) and Herman H. Hettler (1890-1926). Along the way we viewed the East Channel Lighthouse, built in 1867, and the colorful rock cliffs and beaches of Grand Island.

Viewing the Stone Canyon fire which was started near Lyons, Colorado on July 30, 2024. We only had our phones with us this time so some shots aren't the best quality. No disrespect intended for the property owners, wildlife or anyone who lost their life in this tragedy. Thank you to all the first responders who are assisting with this in our beautiful state. The cause is still being investigated.

    I believe that there was a quilter that lived in the town up until 2010, more or less. I think she lived in the yellow house.

    The sad thing about these abandoned homes is that they often represent someone's broken dreams. If only those walls could talk and share about the people who lived there. Sometimes I wonder if its inhabitants are still alive, living somewhere near or far, and if they are aware of what became of their home.

    Stopped there many times while it was open. Really sad to see that one of my favorite places to take a break had closed, and I had to press on. Always looked forward to the rest stop, and a pecan roll for the road.

    I live in NE Colorado, and have been by this old school house a few times. The outer edges of Colorado are full of places like this. Our population may be bigger, but agriculture doesn't take as many people as it did back then, and these places are drying up and blowing away in my lifetime. Sad really, and I tried to live in the big city, but that just isn't me.

    I lived in Sedgwick as a kid in the 60s & 70s. Spent a LOT of time there with my Mom. For a while they had mannequins in old west clothes sitting in the booths. Some cowboys. Some Indians. There was a cheerleader and a football player too. Maybe 15 of them. Looks kinda different now. Too bad.

    Way back 55 years ago the Interstates were just starting to be built. There were hundreds of these places on highways. In 20-25 years four rotor flying cars are fairly common place. If you think this is jarring wait a while …
