awesome job
awesome thanks for sharing this
I like that
It's nice to see an example of a great show that doesn't use Falcons. I'm planning my first show and trying to stay on a smaller budget.
Hey Chad, thanks for watching. Actually, I do use a Falcon controller in the display, an F16 and differential expansion board is the main controller with receiver boards spread around the yard. There are plenty of controller options nowadays and in the scheme of things a controller will be one of the cheaper components in a display, it's well worth investing in a quality controller that can grow with your show. Best of luck with your first display!
Great behind the scene explanation. Are you self taught or have a background working with lighting/electrical? I’m thinking of expanding into pixels but am nervous about doing so. I’m just a mere chippy by trade.
Hi Daniel, thanks for watching. To answer your question, I have always had a keen interest in stage lighting as a hobby but only in recent years have I actually moved into lighting professionally. What I love about Christmas decorating is that there are so many new skills to learn and a great community of people to learn from. As a chippy, I imagine you'll have an advantage when it comes to building and installing props, lots of transferable skills there. Everyone has there strong points, some folks are great at programming/sequencing, others are better at designing and building props and some are good with the techy/computer stuff, in this hobby you get to learn a bit of all of it but you don't need to master it all, there is always someone to help. Don't be nervous, get yourself some pixels and a controller and have a play, you won't look back!
Nicely explained but why No Shows in 2019 & 2020 🤔🤔 Hope you are safe and sound 🙏🙏
Hi Manu, sorry no videos in 19/20 but the show is definitely still going strong, all packed down now looking forward to Christmas 2021. Thanks for watching!
Nice job, sir
How much did this overall setup cost you?
Did you have to install extra power outlets. If so around how much did you pay in total. I'm trying to connect my lights in one place, but dont know how much it would cost
No I haven't needed to add any extra yet. I have a few outdoor circuits in the back yard and just run some long extensions out front, not convenient but perfectly ok. At some point I will get a sparky in to put gpos out front and add another breaker or two but that's an expense I'll put off for as long as possible, lol.
Thank you @@narrelights3692
Silent movies usually had a Piano Player :p
Your show is amazing, how did you sequence the NOEL on the mega tree what was AWESOME!!! Also for the candy canes, what kind of pole do you have them attached to so the stand up off the ground?
Hi Leesah, thanks for the kind words, glad you enjoyed the show. NOEL uses the text effect in xlights and is layered over the top of the other effects on the tree. Candy canes are simply attached to some thin steel pipe which is hammered into the ground. Merry Christmas.
Well did you ate sweet or sour or salt. You make a noise as if u r eating canndy.
Very nice and lots of info.
Nice walk through, very informative. Thanks for your time and efforts.

Cool
Love it amazing I like the effects on the tree and the arches
Nice neat power injection on the mega tree.
Love the effects on the tree David. Brad
I do too
Haha! I think we have similar lighting philosophies! This is the first display I've seen where the lights are actually ON most of the time! Nice job!
Wow! I really like those arch bases! I may have to retrofit this year! Nice display!
Which tool is that for tightening zip ties? I've seen several on Amazon, but they seem cheap. Also, Sam rocks! :)
CanispaterChristmas Hi Jeff, haha, yes Sam's awesome, he likes to be involved in whatever is going on! The cable tie gun I use is a cheapy from a local retailer here in Aus, I imagine the budget ones are all much the same, plenty of them on ebay and amazon, best $20 I ever spent. www.jaycar.com.au/cable-tie-gun/p/TH2600 David
The tool looks cheap, but it work almost as well as the very expensive Panduit tool. I have done 1000's of 4" and 6" ties The almost applies to the ease of changing the setting: Big fat knob for $150 more?
So this is 1 element built but based on using sub models you can sequence it to be 3 different objects? That's cool!
Yeah, not mine, an ACL member posted this prop on the forum with a question on how to define the separate models, I thought it was a great idea and wanted to see how it would work in xLights using sub models. www.auschristmaslighting.com/threads/creating-custom-spinner-star-snow-flake-all-in-one-programming-individual-groups-of-lights.9791/
Thanks for the walkthrough David. Found the link to they youtube clip on AusChristmasLighting forum. I have been doing LOR DC lights for the past 3 years and going pixel this year. Your video has been a great insight, so thank you.
Can you tell me where you got your small enclosures from (11min : 56sec). I'm hoping they might available in Australia, preferably QLD :-)
Great, glad you found it helpful. Good luck with the pixels this year, keep us posted.
Club7Swan sorry only just saw your question. The small enclosures were from Masters, these are quite commonly used within the Christmas lighting community, if you search on ACL for 'Masters boxes' there is plenty of info. Of course Masters is no longer around but I spotted these recently in Bunnings branded as Click. auschristmaslighting.com/forums/index.php/topic,9506.msg84372.html#msg84372
You mention 31V supply, and show 2 DMX controllers, is it possible you could put up a link where the DMX DC controller that runs 31V was purchased? I am only ever able to find ones with a maximum of 24VDC. Thanks.
Sure, the DMX controllers are 27ch boards from Ray Wu (HD712). These are a popular controller and there is lots of research and info on them on ACL, links below. I think they are listed at 24V but it has been discussed that they are good up to 35V and also if you are handy with a soldering iron it is possible to beef up the tracks to allow more than 1A per channel if required. www.aliexpress.com/store/product/Easy-DMX-LED-controller-dmx-decoder-driver/701799_378111925.html auschristmaslighting.com/wiki/HD712 auschristmaslighting.com/forums/index.php/topic,741.0.html
I should also add, my controllers only came with XLR connectors so I added RJ45 connectors by fitting a module from Hanson Electronics www.hansonelectronics.com.au/product/rj45-27ch/ If you were buying new controllers, it looks like Ray now sells this controller with both RJ45 and XLR connectors www.aliexpress.com/store/product/27channel-easy-constant-voltage-dmx-decoder-with-RJ45-interface-DC7-24V-input/701799_1558064774.html?spm=2114.12010615.0.0.yGWVXo
Thanks. It just had me confused as to why they all were 9-24v and i was unable to find one to handle 31v (which lead me to buying a ws2811 30 channel controller from Hansons a few months ago for my DC static lights)
thx 4 the vid. helped out a lot. I'll be going or trying to go with pixles this year.
G Salinas great, glad I could share. If you haven't already be sure to check out auschristmaslighting.com and the 101 manual which is a great place to start - auschristmaslighting.com/forums/index.php/topic,1889.0.html Good luck and enjoy.
Great tour and explanation David. :)
da-share Thanks David, did you notice a couple of your tune to signs, they worked well.
I did see those. :)
