The sound of the guitar in the beginning is not a single guitar, but a guitar and a bass in such perfect sync, that it sounds like one instrument.

Good idea to look at lyrics later, cause great music has its own heart and soul. Of course, lyrics enhances the song, but only the vocals have influence on the music itself. IMHO. Po.

You ask yourself, "How does Band-Maid come up with so many incredible riffs. The answer, "Kanami Tono is a freakin' genius!" This song,"YOLO" was composed long before Band-Maid was formed. She kept it "in her pocket" until the band was allowed to write and record their own music by their management company. Once that happened, this banger came out. A bit of news" PRS Guitars recently released a statement that Kanami was given her own custom made guitar with her additions from her suggestions and input. They are not available for sale (yet). If they were, they would run between 10K or 14K apiece.

I bought mine 2 yrs ago; there are even large sizes-I got a 3XL. They're very well made. Ryan,one day, was reacting to a Band Maid song when he just blurted this statement out,talking to himself. "Choose Me" -- a song featured in the Netflix original movie "KATE" and the HBO Max series Peacemaker as BAND MAID, has so many great RnR chops, it's kinda unbelievable. From Saiki's old-school phrasing, cadence and a super soulful vocal at the end; MISA's driving bass, her special riff after Kanami's brilliant, rocking main solo (complete with harmonic pinch), and her pulls at the end of the song that really funks it up with Akane's drumming; to Kanami's original composition, off-beat octave stretches during the verses, and her addition of a second uncomplicated yet super tasty solo; to Akane's unique snare & tom flurry that launches the choruses; and to Miku's octave-down, in & out vocal backup and lyrics... all makes "Choose Me" a throwback rocker that surprised me when I first heard it - and I'll bet most anyone - that they would come up with this western-style, rock 'n roll classic. Of course, after years later, it's not surprising at all coming from this important band of geniuses who are, along with The Warning band, almost single-handedly bringing back the joy of rock. "More poppy feel" A strange phenomenon with Band-Maid is that you catch on to particular parts of the song in terms of it's sound. The choruses often feel poppy, but that's mostly just the melodies. Listen to other parts of Yolo, and it's crazy how hard they're playing. Even the background riffs in the poppy choruses are really hard... even a bit proggy here and there. The ability for you to hear them differently on subsequent listens is one of the magical things about their music.

"Dollification" In addition to the shut-in concept mentioned below, the song has some slight BDSM hints such as "The candy or the whip, which do you like?" and "One moment of pain, ten moments of delight." It's about taking a chance on an intense relationship. But one where it's not clear who the top is going to be. :)

The blindfolded girl with the doll represents the shut-ins, cutting themselves off from the world, which is a known social issue in Japan. The lyrics are basically about taking a chance ( throw the dice) on life and putting yourself out there in the world.

Sticking to the middle years with the songs… which are great, and so listener friendly. I wonder what you’ll think of their newer, insanely dense proggy stuff like Black Hole, Different, Influencer, etc.? If you love that, as well as this, you’re gonna be hooked on them for life!

Band Maid gives us brilliant versions of every flavor of rock. This one here is just good old fashioned kick-ass rock to me!

They were transitioning from their pop-punk roots to hard rock sound at that point. This song, to me is all about 2nd verse onwards. I love the slightly weird trippy vibe. The music matches the lyrics like an impressionist art.

The Japanese language just has a lot more syllables than english, so it sounds much faster. It's a naturally staccato sounding language, so I can see the inclination towards the rap comparison, and it's not wrong exactly. I would say it's just more just tone of voice singing. If you want to hear her actually rap a little, the song Influencer has a bit in there, there is more of a specific flow to rap imo, and you'll see the difference.
