Hi mate, nah it wouldn't hurt it at all, it's just basecoat with no colour pigment in it. I didn't know what I was doing is all 🤣

I've been doing a lot of silvers lately bud and although I'm still not the best at them, I've improved! 😅 I've noticed that I hadn't been putting the first couple of coats on heavy enough to actually get enough coverage, and drying times are essential 👌

I spent all day in my garage, experimenting with my air brush.,. I learned alot,. I did some sprayouts on different panels, and experimented with reducing the base.. also, I left a little bit of the basecoat in the bottom of the airbrush jar when I added the clearcoat,.. I reduced the clearcoat abt 15 percent... the results were VERY encouraging.. immediately after I sprayed the base, in light coats I dried it with a hair dryer on low, before the next coat.. I think doing this helps to keep the microflakes from migrating to the outside edges..which has been my main problem.., when the weather clears and rain stops. im going to go try it on the car.. if I can master this, and I think I will, I will be able to fix small gouges, and small deep scratches with very little paint and clear.. im going to try and keep the basecoat spray areas to abt the size of a mason jar lid.. getting the air pressure set up right on the air compressor is critical, as well as the airbrush adjustment.. wearing a headlamp so you can see the very fine spray pattern laying down helped alot.. also remembering that the the airbrush had a round spray pattern helps. I didnt do a side to side spray motion I started from the center and spiraled outward... @@WinginitPaintSprayers

no, im fixing a car I just bought,, Ive painted a few cars before, with good success.. I think my main issue going forward is matching the color.. the paint looks darker than what is on the car.. I have another pint coming from a different supplier.,, if it is also darker, I will assume its the correct color match, but my paint is a little faded... I may order a 1/2 pint of straight silver mettalic base , and try to lighten the paint I have a bit... its close, but not close enough.,,, Im going to make it work one way or another.,, I dont give up too easy.. @@WinginitPaintSprayers

Hi mate, thankyou for watching! It was a technique that I saw someone else using and gave it a go a few times. The idea is that the metallic has got something to blend into, instead of just sitting on top of the prepped panel...if that makes sense

Hi mate, sorry for the late reply, haven't been getting notifications for some reason 🤔. I've used the 'wet bed' a few times since this, I've found that giving the whole blend panel a coat of the clear base then letting it dry, works just as well - as it seems to fill the sanding scratches before you lay a silver on. If that makes sense... 😅😅

@@WinginitPaintSprayers I think so! By laying down a clear coat and letting it flash it will give you a flatter surface for your metal flake to strand up uniformly in the new layer of wet clear. ??

@@kenbaustin4533 yeah I think that's what I mean 😄. Otherwise you use shit loafs of the clear for every coat, like on the bonnet in the video 🤦‍♂️

@@WinginitPaintSprayers Great, I watched one of these whizzing round Goodwood, it was going like a rocket and painted in that same or similar colour, it didn't have that amazing roof on it though, well suited to the car.

@@benjifatcat5729 have you had a MG Midget at all? This is the first one I'd worked on, tiny motor. The owner is a mechanical engineer, and an ex University engineer lecturer - the engine bay is extremely neat and tidy 👌🤣

@@WinginitPaintSprayers My dad had one, it was nippy but the small engines can be tuned and become very quick. It would be interesting to know if this one was raced at Goodwood.

@@WinginitPaintSprayers A previous owner changed it from red to yellow. I quite like the colour, but not the quality of the paint job. It looks like they sprayed right over the red paint: anywhere where there is a chip you can see red paint underneath the yellow. Although I'm no expert when it comes to paint, I believe that the paint does not have a clear coat: if I take a rag with some thinners and rub over the paint the rag becomes yellow. I will enjoy the car as is for as long as possible, but am mentally preparing for the day that it will need to be stripped and properly painted (plus some welding repairs).

@@windmill1965 eeeek! 😂. Yes I'm afraid with colour changes - unless you strip the original colour right off- then you will always get the off colour stonechips! It must be a cellulose or a 2pack paint then. If its 2pack then it will shine up again after thinners is rubbed on it, whereas cellulose will not 🤯

Epoxy only needed a wee tickle, wanted to leave most of it on there mate, if it was on the face of a panel I'd of sprayed it probably. Anything new on the product testing front mate? X

Hey-up Boss🥰 if you want to know how my bum is for boils I can send you a photo mate🤢😂 I suppose if you aren't epoxying a big area then a roller is quicker plus you get a better build🤔 I've got nothing new atm Luke, just spent a load on the car for it's MOT so a bit short but I'm thinking about trying the Mipa CX4🤔 I cant remember if you have ever tried it mate if so which hardener is best for single panels? I would love the WS400 series2 OBS for base sometime but it's crazy money😭😆

I'm not overly a gun fan for some reason, I make do with what I've got..but I worked with a few people a while ago that used the big Sata's for lacquering and they look like animals, wouldn't mind one of them...or a Walcom with my name on it (just for vanity). Can't remember the Mipa lacquer I tried, might of been abc12345#123.....I hate their names 😁

Yeah they are stupid prices these days, I'm lucky enough to not have any debts so don't owe anyone anything these days but I have been in debt big time and it nearly ended me so these days if I can't afford something it stays in the shop😄 Ok bud no worries on the Mipa, it gets good reviews so I might get a 1.5L kit to see what it's like👍👍

You are more than welcome big man🍆 with these big resto's there is a huge amount of work involved which when done you don't see what it took to get there, so long as you earned a decent profit and the customer is happy it doesn't matter how ling it takes👍 Please don't think I'm having a go at you mate but it is important to learn these skills as it will repay you in the future. Had my old 2003 SLK in for MOT and yet again it sailed through with no issues, bought the car in 2015 and it's passed with flying colours every year😎 I know I got 4 wheels for it but it wasn't essential for the MOT👍

I'm sure the customer was happy with it mate, don't put yourself down I'm sure you could get it spot on if the customer had the time and the budget, those old Dodge pickups came out of the factory looking worse then the finish you got on it mate, it would take hours and hours of labour time to get it looking mint👍

And you're right, we didn't think about it flexing - you would have to run a cage of sorts right round the fucker to stop it. I dug the offending filler out and used a 'semi' hard fibrefill. Seemed to do the trick. Only when we fitted it up did we realise it had also changed shape from sitting on the pallet/dolly the old man built, ended up boring the holes out on the radiator support to get it back on 😭

Whatever gets the ratings up on the channel is fair game in my opinion Luke. The front end is always going to flex no matter what you do with it apart from fitting a couple of RSJ's to it but you would need a crane to move it😂 My first door skin that I use for painting was very floppy so I had the idea of slapping some fibreglass on the inside, it made it more rigid but it distorted the panel and pulled the metal in all round the edges so that one got scrapped🤦‍♂🙄😂

Goooooood evening Mrs. Ta luv, yeah i wrote a contract out for us both to sign beforehand, been stung too many times before. Agreed an hourly rate and I clocked all the hours/materials etc etc. I think/hope it worked out well for both parties.....we enjoyed it in a weird and stressful way 🤯🤪

The front end is a BASTAD to line up, mainly because of the bonnet, and to save fuckin about I said to the owner about welding it and he agreed, it's got no adjustment now - on the A post, so it should be foolproof when he wants to play with the engine 🤙🤙
