Check Up On Big Red | Worm Farming Update
Welcome back!
This is a short update for those following along with the big red worm bin!
Filled with European night crawlers, this bin started with 8 pounds of ENC on December 11th. We are 16 days into the compost cycle. We have added about 30 gallons of leaf compost from out landscaping debris pile.
Once this bin fully composts all of the current bedding, we will split this out into smaller breeding bins.
Big red (the bin) will become a cocoon sanctuary until further plans are put in place. I am not expecting a massive turnout for cocoons this time around. There are too many worms in the bin.
Each week I’ll pull 200 breeders out to start the cycle of breeding bins.

Split my dubia roach bin? Or Double the size!
Переглядів 169День тому
This #dubiaroaches bin started in June of #2024 with 50 females and 20 males. We are coming to the end of December in just a week or so and it’s just about ready for harvest! I do not plan to sell any of these this time around. We will be building stock back up over time and determine what we want the #roaches to be utilized for whether it’s sale or more production!
14 day Dubia roach bin(s) update - Getting the bins back together!

If you saw my last video, the roaches had a rough few months towards the end of 2022. Between the move of warehouses and getting insulations, heat, plumbing etc installed; my inventory took a major dive! Im finally able to work on getting the roach bins back on track. Here’s an update. More to come. I have some requests to fulfill in terms of video ideas. Maybe I’ll start making a few playlists...

How many baby dubia can you harvest out of 10 bins?
Переглядів 2,4 тис.2 роки тому
Hey guys! Another harvesting video comin at you! I had 10 bins ready to be harvested today. This took me about 3 hours to do, between cleaning egg crates, bins and measuring etc. It is quite time consuming as always. And breeding dubia may seem fun with one or two bins but moving to a commercial scale is a lot of work. Just like farming any other living thing, you need to tend to each bin every...

Hey Guys! Im getting back to my super worm breeding set up. This is just a small system for now until I move into the warehouse. But I figured I better start now and get going before I move so I’m not delayed any longer! Im currently using shoe box sizes trays. Id be happy to go over an entire system in more detail on breeding them soon. This system is great for breeding super worms short term ...
I have to clean HOW MANY dubia roach bins this week?
Переглядів 8 тис.2 роки тому
Hey guys, Figured I could make a quick video on cleaning one of my small dubia bins. These breeder bins are my favorite size to work with. Their fairly quick and the dubia seem to produce the best in them. This video isn’t sped up or slowed down. It takes me just over 10 minutes per bin to harvest them. And as I said in the video. I have quite a bit of work ahead of me! #dubia #dubiaroaches #re...

Quick time lapse of feeding some dubia colonies

Back at it again with a quick feeding. I feed my #dubia every 3-4 days. Often, they run out of water crystals before food, but some of the grow out bins really know how to eat! I tag those so I know to feed them more! Get dubia roaches and more here at JerseyWorms.com

Wondering if white sugar can be given to these worms🤔
Do you have any Red Wigglers ?
Sure do. I am not selling any at the moment but I will be making content again about these soon.
@jerseyworms 👍I'm in nj also. I just started doing worms(red wigglers)
@@LordJesusChrist1968 That's great! North or South? I'm in Morris County here. Just recorded 2 more videos for everyone on reds and blues and Euros. Ill get them uploaded soon. I don't do much editing if any for now. So they should be up shortly.
I got some worms bro.
I just added a bunch of chopped leaves to all of my worm bins!! 🍁 🪱 They love that stuff!!!🎉 I got a few more big black bags of leaves to chop... I use a small battery weed wacker and a large planter with thick walls. Im hoping to make enough bedding for a home made 2'X4' CFT. Maybe make a bigger one in the future when needed. We have about 13 bus bins and are running short on space... Still gotta build a shelving system for the smaller bins...🎉
Start composting some leaves early if you can. Add some water and let them sit. They’ll start breaking down before you even start.
@jerseyworms water sounds good. I hear they breed better with more moisture. 🌧️
Yes, there’s some warmth to the bins for sure. I’ll post a video of my compost pile to show you the heat coming off in a future video.
Do the leaves heat up? I’m thinking about vermicomposting with leaves also.
Hi, Definitely. Leaves will begin to breakdown pretty quick. In the process the heat will definitely accrue. With leaf-mold based worm bins, you'll need ventilation in the top of the bins for sure. The amount of greenhouse gas that will build up in the beginning will become too much for the worms to handle and they'll look for an escape route!

Impressive content, Jersey Worms. Looking forward to seeing your next upload. I smashed the thumbs up button on your video. Keep up the fantastic work! Your approach to integrating composting with worm breeding is fascinating. Have you considered experimenting with different types of organic waste to optimize the breeding process?
My Dubia's aren't eating that I know of. I've had them for a week now, from an online order. Adults and baby's. I rarely see them out too. Maybe one at a time. Do they need to adjust? Hopefully I didn't get a sick batch.
Could be temperature based. How warm are they. If it’s cool, they’ll have a slower metabolism. They’ve also just had their world flipped around and have no idea where they are. They’re in hiding. Let them get used to their surroundings. Make sure food is accessible as well. Can they reach it?
No you didn't get a Sick Batch they need time to adjust to the Sounds And Things Going on around them and then they will eat and you'll see them Breeeding And Eating Especially At Night there very Strong Bugs they survived Radation 💪 Atomic Bomb 💣 💪 😅So no worries you're good I went thur the Same I bought all My Babies From Petsmart About 10mos Ago Now I got Crazy Amounts of Babies I Have 135 females with 25 males and All My Colonies Have Exploded in The Last 2weeks I will be selling dubia - Superworms- Giant Mealworms- Madagascar Hissing Roaches..All Have Exploded Just 2 weeks ago ..Got Over 10,000 Babies Colonies 🎉🎉🎉🎉😊
What size sifters do you use? I’m in Fl so I just started with Discoid roaches this week.
1/16 for dermisted beetles if you have any, 1/4 for smalls and Xsmall mixture.
If you use substrate they won't smell as bad.
Great video did you stop doing dubia
I am still breeding them. I have a small container of my own and doing drop shipping for others in the back ground. I unfortunately don't have time to answer calls etc. So I sold pretty much all my stock in bulk to a new owner. I am keeping the name.
Life of the rich and famous ❤
Do you happen to know what the sizes are for each mesh sorting screen you use? I only have two roach bins for my reptiles and also give some to friends and family members that have reptiles as well. I'd like to get a set because this looks like a much easier method than what I'm currently doing. Thanks!
You need a mask and gloves to prevent developing allergy.
Ok but what playlist is this? 🕺🔥
What do people use the Dubia Roaches for?
Hi Chira, There are several uses. The main one is for feeding reptiles.
That’s too many in 1 bin, you can easily split it into 4 more bins with even better production
How do you sell so many roaches? I'm in California hopping to start a business with feeders, I have one shop that buys but that's not enough to make a living.
when you doing new videos :)
How often do you pull a harvest from each bend?
Where can I get a set of your shifting systems? The green shifters and the big black buckets?
Ok when you pickup the egg crates you lightly shake them. Why?
He was getting the poop off of them!
Ok thank you
Where does one get/how might someone go about creating those sieves you have for separating out various sized dubies so freaking quick and easily? 😍 I have a young female veiled chameleon personally, I’m working to transition her staple feeder from crickets to dubia.. not that she hasn’t had a variety of different foods as she’s grown, just building up that initial bulk of breeding adults to be able to sustain a decent population still
I willl see if I can make a video on them. As well as look for where I got them in my notes somewhere. Gavin
@@gavinciccia933 any update?

Thank you, I will do a full video of the bins one day.

No problem! Let me know what info you’d like to see and I’d be happy to make a video.
@@jerseyworms maybe like a day in the life of a bug breeder lol like go around showing everything and each station and what you do to package them and maybe tips on breeding dubias or like how you sort them, the sizes of holes you use to sort them cause I can never find that anywhere
Are you shipping out dubia roaches again I saw your brand on Amazon
@@rjd1568 I am not yet. I want to get more breeding. I lost about half the stock in the move. Id like to fill that again before I do. At my max before I moved, I was producing about 100k weekly.
How do you go about, or what is your routine, for adding in new bloodlines to your colony?
There must be a better way to cut that zip tie but I don't know what it is. Really really sharp scissors I suppose...
Where did you get the sifters from?
I believe they are actually Mining Classifiers
6:12 My mans be groovin'
They prefer pitch black
Do you give your roaches carrots or potatoes
Where can I get those sifters you have to separate the dubias ?
They’re called Mining Classifiers
I see a lot of people always saying you should dehydrate and grind up egg shells to aid digestion and in order to make their eggs stronger for a better rate of egg hatches, also coffee has been said to be great for worms as long as they are spent (used already), just some suggestions. If you think that's too expensive or something I suggest talking to customers and neighbors for their spent coffee grounds and egg shells, and asking coffee stands for their coffee waste that they probably have to pay to dispose of anyways. I'm not suggesting that you stop feeding them leaves I'm just suggesting you think about also putting other foods in them. Most leaves and woods can be fed to most species of isopods, but I'd do more research about what specific leaves and woods they can eat but I suggest you look into the isopods business/hobby. They look fun, but I have yet to own any myself so I'd recommend aquarium max I believe is the name of the channel but I'd love to see you get into this stuff more. So far really interesting.
I hope you wear a mask 😷 during the cleaning, all that roach poop 💩 floating around probably isn't to good to breathe in.
what did u do with the dubias that is in the grains/waste. the dubias that isnt cling to the egg crate. how did u transport them over?
Hi Ian, The dubias that end up in the frass I keep for about 3-4 days pulling them out slowly. Then if I still see a decent amount in them I have one bin in the warehouse that has tons of frass in it. I add them to it and harvest them out when they become mediums!
What are you feeding them?
I feed carrots, and grains
@@jerseyworms Buying commercial chow for the colony the family runs for our beardie breeding project has been getting harder and harder financially. I really need to start experimenting with mixes. I have given them like rolled corn/oats, random stuff they seem to like that I can get "free". I just worry I'll give them something they arent supposed to, or accidently not give them something they need nutritionally. Now if only I could afford the quantities needed to run in the FIL feed mixer. Thanks for the advice.
@@nes999how’s that going

Hi, do you recommend feeding a constant supply of roach chow?
Always
how many males with u put with 400 adult females ? what is their food u gave?
About 100 males - I use fruits and veggies and grain.
How long does it take your to get this many roaches?
This all depends on what you start with. This is a breeder bin. I believe around 400 Adult females in this one. If you are starting with around 100 adult females you could see some significant growth pretty quickly.
I don’t think they breed as fast in clear totes, but they end up looking more healthy, and get bigger (because they know when to take a break) and it’s nice to let them know if it’s day or night. Also if you don’t separate the babies from their mom then they end up growing a bit slower, but the babies taken care of grow up to be bigger, and look way healthier, the ones that I separated looked beat up compared to the ones I kept together, and again it’s nicer for them to be kept together.
Leaves have a great chance of increasing mites in a worm bin. Great update. 😎
Absolutely, the best way to prevent this is either A) freeze the leaves for 48+ hours. Or B) put the leaves in a black garbage bag and let it sit in the sun for 24 hours. This will heat it up tremendously and kill the mites inside. The final way is to add Diatomaceous earth to leaves before you wet them.
@@jerseyworms thanks for sharing.
What's the best temperature for breeding?
I prefer 84 degrees. I think it keeps them warm but not scrambling to cool down.
Wow this colony is doing fantastic!
I think so too! Patience pays off eventually!
