My name is Richard Villacres and this is my vlog. I'm a 59 year old retired professional photographer traveling and living out of a 1954 Dodge M152 named Hella. I seek out and coordinate family portraits for families who, for whatever reason, cannot afford portraits. If you'd like to help support the gifting I'm doing by becoming a Patron, cut and paste the link below-

Relish your moments!
When I was a young father there were more than a few elders of mine who encouraged me to relish every moment. 'They grow up so fast!' was the refrain I heard over and over from parents who's child rearing days were done. They were right, of course! Both my kids are in their upper 20's now and have very independent lives. It's amazing to bear witness to. Nothing makes you as aware of the passage of time as the aging of the people you love. When you get my age, (I'll be 60 in 2025), you start becoming more and more aware of time slipping by. You begin to see that you're in the evening of your life. That awareness can either scare the shit out of you or inspire you. Thankfully for me, my spirit resides on the inspired and grateful side of that equation. I think that's largely because I've been living a truly uncompromising and meaningful life of purpose for the last 7 years. In my opinion, that makes all the difference as one enters the last decades of their life. My wish for all of you is that your life is purpose-driven and inspiring too.

What kind of listener are you?
Переглядів 17821 годину тому
There is a big difference between hearing someone talk and actually listening to them. Listening takes discipline and empathy. When truly listening to someone, you are not formulating what you want to say the first milisecond they take a breath. Instead, you are doing nothing but absorbing and feeling their every word. You do so purely for the sake of allowing the unimpeded, uncontested flow of...

I am excited and grateful to have surpassed a thousand subscribers! I started this channel simply to share about my life and travels in this little old military truck I turned into my home. I didn't do much with it at first, but my kids encouraged me to try posting more often. So, a little over two years ago I committed to creating a video each week. Hella just turned 70 this week! One of the big things traveling in a vintage rig will train you to do is how to manage your anxiety. Let me tell ya, this old gal has put me through a master's class that way for the last couple years! I think she has accelerated my silver hair transition 😅 So, let's talk about not allowing fear, even rational fear, to keep you from doing what's in your heart to ...

Revisiting my childhood homes

I'm spending a week in Wenatchee visiting my sister. She recently moved back here from the west side of the state. I haven't been to this valley for a visit like this since I moved my family to Ellensburg in 2002. I have a ton of personal history in this beautiful valley, some great, and some the worst of my life. So, revisiting those places and times has been very moving. I'm really glad I had...

Many have asked me for this video, so I'm finally delivering! This is a basic primer regarding what my 1954 Dodge M152 CDN was built for and what makes it a rare bird as far as early M Series trucks go. I could have gone into lots more detail, but wanted to keep the video a reasonable length. I didn't even touch on all the modifications I have made to make Hella a true roadworthy machine. That ...

I lived in South Carolina most of my life. I moved this year :( But, I'd drive the 3 1/2 hours to Myrtle Beach or Surfside Beach just to see the ocean and hear those waves. The seagulls. Oh..I want to go home. thanks for sharing.
what a great message! I think that people like yourself have taken their lives back and created what they want to have each day rather than the conventional methods which you're right...are full of no guarantees. We were meant to enjoy the beauty in the world and not just once in a while. Thanks for the great video!
I'll be 64 in January. I could have recorded these words, front to back, regarding my own life experiences and advice. I'm living in a minivan and slowly traveling around the country. I like the cold so I'm in Wyoming but heading back to the East Coast to visit family next month. Always looking forward to your next. Thanks!
Thanks for sharing Brad. Wishing you inspired travels Amigo 🤘

@@imperfectmoments thank you for your kind words! I will keep it rolling 👍
"I listen"! What a great content. I became a work counciler in early 2022 in the biggest public transportation company in Europe and had to learn to listen. It took me a year to get it. Since now 1½ years I have to listen and nothing told is leaving the "for your ears only" situation - required by as well humanity as the German Workers- and Company Running Law (BetrVG). Now I' m in the position to sign every single word you said. The only differen to you: the people coming to me are no strangers. I don't know all of them (that's not possible with some 1.000 of them just in my local area and 120,000 all over Germany) yet most of the people coming to me I have at least noticed somewhere and they have noticed me. Thus there are for sure stories that I never will get told. Yet in the end it is like you said: just listen. Only comment if you get asked to do that. Otherwise, just listen. It's a relief to the person speaking to you that big, that you can feel the weight falling of their soul. It is a blessing to listen. Both thumbs up!
@@omnibusbank you definitely know what I'm sharing about! Thank you for your kind words and sharing your experience 🫡
@jackdawlove I noticed you subscribing to my channel. Thank you very much. Unfortunately my channel runs in German language and only rareky a vidio gets published. Due to your astunning work and subscribtion I now schedule to do one episode in English to pomote and recomand your channel and work, yet publishing won't be before January 2025. After that episode I'll go on in German lanuage, thus it could be you getting left behind and I'm very, very sorry for that, yet I do usually tell a different story to a different audience. After I won a 2 seater bus bench last christmas in a lottery run by a German bus bench manufacturer, an idea stroke my mind. I worked one year on audio issues since every cheap smartphone has a good camera yet even the most expensive one only has a cheap microphone. Now I worked out the audio equipment needed and I'm on the way to take off with my idea. Thus the episode honoring your work will be the last in row of chaos, the first in a line following an idea and the one and only in English. Thus I would fully understand if you would unsubscribe me later on in 2025 if the German language should be a language barrier for you. By the way: my channel run also on a different name and a account before midt 2024 and I allmost made it thru all your elder videos before I won the bus bench and erased my other channels everywhere and renamed this one here and at Instagram. What I actually try to tell: after being thru almost all your UA-cam contributions and lot of your Instagram stuff I have to tell you this: you did developed from a broken man into a great one. You increased respectability and humanity by a high factor. If life would be a video game, you would have earned yourself a ton of reputation points. Every time I see you releasing a video now - what never is in time since I do not live inside virtuality - I get a wide angled smile on my face even if it comes to tuffer content. You're doing great. It is good for humanity that you're around. You for sure make the Earth a better place by what you became and what you're doing now. My only advice can be: go on! 🫡👍🏻

My truck is 30 years ish younger than yours yet it is the same: you have to pay attention. The only difference is: I knew before buying where I want to go with it and especialy looked for one that every black smith in the underdeveloped world can give me a hand. Thus I bought the most sold truck in history in Africa and South America and Middle East and my wife said: "if you buy that, then I do get me a truck driver's licence" and of we went did some test trips allready all the way from Northern Europe down to Africa preparing for the 2030 take off to an all around the globe tour. While we like you also have to listen to our drivable 4x4-home around the clock, and while you drive US automotive history in the US and we drive German, African, South American and Middle East automotive history in Europa, Africa, South America and Middle East and everybody is happy to notice such a rig on a public road instead on display in a museum, there is one disadvantage that you have that you earn highly respect from us: you're allone with everything on your rig. You"ve to figure out everything for yourself while we run a 10 ton truck that got built some million times with as well much well informed fans world wide outside China, North Korea and the USA. Only Mercedes Benz itself is not at all off ay help to owners of this kind of truck. Yet if we forgett all about the big comanies Daimler & Mercedes trucks then we get supportive help everywhere. Thus "chapeau"! You're bravery is topp level.
@@omnibusbank thank you for such kind words and encouragement! We can definitely both relate to how fun people's reactions are when we roll into town 😊 As well as the constant listening to the machine. One choice I made with North, Central and South America parts availability in mind was going with an old school Chevy engine. Other than that, it is a challenge sometimes to get parts. Thankfully I can live out of the rig when I have to wait a few days or weeks for parts on those occasions. Before doing this with a vintage vehicle, I had no idea just how much courage it would require. I've only personally met one other long distance traveler rolling in rigs as old as ours. You guys have my respect too! Thanks for watching and commenting 🫡
