Meet the Artist: "Treaties on De-Fences" by Jorge Otero-Pailos
The National Museum of American Diplomacy, in partnership with the Foundation for Art and Preservation in Embassies, is pleased to present Treaties on De-Fences by Jorge Otero-Pailos. In 2017, the U.S. government decommissioned the Eero Saarinen-designed Cold War-era Embassy in Oslo, Norway. This exhibition explores Otero-Pailos’ artistic intervention on this modernist masterpiece, a landmark he helped preserve.
In this video, the artist Jorge Otero-Pailos describes his process and the inspiration behind the exhibit.
On display are sculptures created by Otero-Pailos using the steel fence that once guarded the embassy, an artifact the artist considered historically significant and that would have otherwise been destined for the scrapyard. It also showcases a book containing 51 limited edition prints, some of which are framed and displayed on the walls. The prints are inspired by the diplomatic treaties signed between the United States and Norway, as are the titles of the sculptures, which are derived from these historical documents.
This exhibition runs concurrently with "Analogue Sites," Otero-Pailos’ public art exhibition on Park Avenue in New York City. The installation, on view through October 2024, comprises three of the larger sculptures created out of the fence. They are located on East 53rd, East 66th, and East 67th Streets, near the notable landmarks of the Seagram Building, and the Park Avenue Armory.
Otero-Pailos conceived these artworks in order to spark a national conversation about the preservation of Cold War U.S. embassies, which were originally designed to encourage goodwill towards the United States through their freely-accessible public spaces. The exhibition comes at a moment when many of these embassies are being decommissioned and sold, and calls for reimagining their future while honoring their original intent.

  • @debraan6482
    @debraan6482 Місяць тому

    I feel communication is key to resolutions. All treaties should be negotiated to uphold the best communications and agreements should be honored. If a situation changes as they do they should renegotiate. They should not just ignore the treaties because it shows lack of honor. If you look at it from a legal perspective you make a contract you are supposed to honor it or you must deal with the negative circumstances that it could cause. If something no longer works as time goes on it must be communicated upon! It is never a good idea to ignore agreements/contracts/treaties!

  • @debraan6482

    I actually liked the idea of using diplomacy in different ways than just political, as it can be fit into many other aspects of our lives, while trying to give respect to others. For example all relationships you can use diplomacy to better communicate. Business situations you can use diplomacy in many ways for employees to understand your position better while giving them respect and doing your best to get everyone's needs met as the business allows in it's perspective. Online gaming to better communicate with others and keep drama at a minimum or non-existant! This can help people come together while they get heard and especially for strategy games where you need everyone to stay on the same page and work together! Thank you for making this video as everyone in life can use diplomacy when dealing with people.

    none of the redhead females words were accurate ! the olive representes the promissed land from the river to the see wich has p4lestine or as people call it for the time being "isr43l" as its main prefecture or capital with its symbolic tree and that would be the olive tree ! as for the arrows they are the symbol of assault and war and they reveal the intention of taking over the promissed land and attacking its ex vital 13 regions wich is why the number 13 ! and it also symbolises the mindset of hitting the enemy from a distance behind the walls ! and finaly the star of david wich no one mentioned ! it representes the creed of z10nism ! and not judahism cause they got nothing in commun ! the star of david on top of the eagle is what the states of america serve and also represent the privileged minority on top of all american ! that would be the isr4eli3s ! if you want evidance then all you have to do is compare the circonstances the of each of 3 political movements like the " BLM / trump supporters / not in my name (jewish group) " the way each f these three were treated and how the black people were shot while being unarmed and how the trump supporters were armed and were not met with fire resistance and how the "not in my name " protesters were granted access to the capitol hall with no resistance what so ever ! then you know that isr43li z10nists are the top priviliged one in america ! and if that s not enough for you then allow me to remind you how isr43l k1lled and sl4ughtered american soldiers by bombing on purpose the war ship kown as " USS lib3rty " you can check out the facts on " al j4zeerah english " cordialy
