I don’t know about the tires, but those are not FJ rims…Tacoma rims I think. Just saying. Also, FJs are not “known for steering wheel shake”…you’re thinking Wranglers.

Probably should have left it raw. I’m sure the smell from the stain. Then you’re gonna put a finish on it. Have to let it air out for days.

Have a 2008 FJ, when you come to a stop, you feel like you are getting hit in the rear end, Im always looking to see if someone actually did rearend me. lol The drive shaft constantly needs greased to help stop this. There was a recall on the early models to replace the drive shaft to the upgraded model that is now in 2010 and up. Of course many ignored this recall, now you have to pay for a new driveshaft and install if you are not mechanically inclined. Also you talked about alignment, FJ cruisers are notorious for having the cambolt rust in place, so you have to replace the lower control arm or live with the out of alignment. Have discovered this first hand, it remains rusted in place..lol

YOu made that look incredibly easy. Noticed you took your door table off, are you planning to put one back on or did the build actually get in the way? Also, if you wax the bottom of the drawers and base board, they will slide easier, Candle wax, soap, both work. Build looks very nice.

I don’t over land, but we do have a truck and a sedan - and I love driving the truck but have to do the math of where I’m headed, if it’s worth the gas, and if the truck is really necessary or I just want to drive it. I end up in the Kia a lot for money reasons haha!

If you wanted a quiet ride why didn’t you buy a Chevy volt. A real man’s car… Then you’d really have something to bitch about. I bet there’s a few thousand guys out there willing to take that piece of crap FJ off your hands.

"Too poor to afford anything else" there are so many cheaper options than what you have. Typical rich white boy problems.

If I can offer some tips from another daily driver off roader: 1. Cheap rims with street or much less aggressive off road tread. Swap out your good tires and either store them in the garage or even in the house with a cloth draped over it and wood board over that. In any case having the second set of tires to take the bulk of the daily miles will save your good rubber for the trips that need it. 2. Build with daily driving in mind. Swallow your pride and build with the idea that all the nice shelves and drawers will need to either come out or at least be emptied often for the daily drive. It makes the pre-trip stuff take longer but you will be happier in between trips. Not to mention its less stuff for car thieves to grab should that be a problem in your area. 3. You should get to know your local U-Haul. Their trailers are a cheap way to add space as needed and learning how your rig handles the extra load may be useful. If that isn't enough then renting a truck is always an option for a bit more. 4. Know your limits. This for me saved the most money because as much as it sometimes hurt to tell my friends that I couldn't follow their dedicated rigs down some trails because I knew it was too close to the limit of what mine could handle without entering that danger zone. Pride, ego, and peer pressure really make this one hard to swallow but it's better than breaking things that you can't afford to replace at that time.

You got some good points but my biggest con in driving your overland rig as a daily is someone hitting it and totaling it !! Insurance can replace the vehicle but not the build hours

I don't daily my rig, but do drive it to and from work once a week. Cars need exercise too.

Mines a 2012. Got it when it was 2 years old in 2014. Had it 10 years now, and just have 86k miles. 100% stock. I did like doing mods in the past to my Jeeps, but decided to keep this one stock. For the miles I have, and how clean mine is, stock will keep value best. And I've done a ton of offroading for the last 20 years in many vehicles. Most important are the tires, and I did put on Goodyear Duratrac tires (which I've used on many of my past offroaders). Always fun to customize though too!

As a new FJ owner, mine had an overcoat done on the frame where I bought it. The other issues, having a stronger cargo door would be nice i agree. As for blind spots this is easily fixed. I havent even put blindspots on yet, i drive an ambulance everyday. Its not a big deal for me. Parking, just back into parking spots. Regardless of the car youre in. Theres literally so many benefits by backing in. Suicide doors are fun, sliding rear windows would be nice however. My only gripes is honestly factory standard grille brush guard, instead of optional, and a few more factory switches in some of the dead space. Although a hidden factory winch mount wouldve been a nice factory option as well

I’m 6’3 so the smaller tent wouldn’t work for me. Maybe the XL. It’s a nice tent, but for now I have to stick with a ground tent to save some interior space inside my Jeep.

Been following you and appreciate your awesome video. I do have silver FJ like you and also Prinsu roorack. I'm exactly 6' tall and will travel solo and like the perfect fit of std tent over the Prinsu roorack. Do you think I should go with the XL or try to sleep diagonally and settle with Std version?

#1: yes, but there are 2 hinges 2: yes 3: frame rust: the FJ's were built in japan and because of shipping laws toyota wasnt allowed to coat the frames 4: i love the B pillar!!! Its what makes the fj an fj❤ 5: suicide doors dont bother me. But a usable window would have been nice. The back seat is like sitting in an airplane with a window you cant open surrounded by plastic .. but i dont sit back there! 😅😂

Thanks for sharing your review. I don't understand how contacting (pushing up against) the canvas causes it to leak. Is it coming through the canvas fabric, through a seam or through a zipper? I couldn't imagine over 6 feet tall and cramming myself into the regular size IO RTT, at 5'7" my toes hit the top. I bought mine used and the previous owner added a wooden dowel into the awning flap and that makes it functional. Definitely worth the effort because as you mentioned it pretty worthless when it's sagging. I have noticed that some of the seam tape has come apart but I'm not exactly sure how old the tent is or if it was caused by abuse. Thanks again for the review.

The FJC does pretty good in 2wd especially using the lsd button when needed. I primarily use my 2wd fj as a daily here in the Chicago land area so not a lot of Off road opportunities near me. Its a great tow rig for my teardrop camper and boat. I bought 2wd because of the cheaper price(what i could afford), less maintenance, possibly better mpg and I found my voodoo blue color I wanted with 100k miles on it.
