We really like a Turf-Type Tall Fescue blend here in Iowa. Tall fescue, bluegrass and ryegrass are great seeds for cool weather climates. You will need different types and varieties of seeds for different climates.

Hello! I don’t have a video specifically addressing that topic- yet! Here a a few benchmarks to get you started though. Feel free to email or call me if you have more questions (contact info is on our website) Per 1000 sqft: Mulch: 50 lbs (1 bale/bag) Seed: 10 lbs Tack: 1 lb The mulch application rate will increase with steeper slopes. Look at the label on your mulch product for application rates. I’ll make a video on the topic soon. The calculation is not easily typed into a comment section!

On this project we filled our tank with the client’s garden hose. Unless you have a bulk water tank on a trailer, using the client’s water is usually the most efficient way to fill water with a 110 gallon tank🙂

Of course, glad to help. Always calculate your costs to see what works for you, but we are usually between $0.15- $0.25 per sq ft. Soil prep is another $0.05- $0.10. Make sure you have a website so folks can find you. If you keep at it the jobs will come!

Yes, we started out as a sole proprietorship, but eventually switched to become an LLC. Always talk to your lawyer and tax professional- they will know your situation and make good recommendations🙂

Aside from all the physical pieces of equipment (hydroseeder, hoses, nozzles), you’ll just need the ingredients that go in the tank. Main ones will be water, hydromulch, and seed.

We recommend using a guar based tacking agent. Highly effective and totally organic. At least 1 lb per thousand sq ft. There are a couple of manufacturers, but we like Profile’s “Con Tack”

Great question! We like to use a pound of tack for every thousand square feet of coverage. You may find yourself using more in an area with slopes.

@@HydroHogSeeders Can you use Contack for slopes on normal lawn renovations, or just hydroseeding?

@@caseywalter11 It comes as a dry powder. It cannot be applied dry, but some will just mix it with plain water and spray over a straw application

You’re right! That’s why we recommend only using a small percentage of quick germinating seed (like perennial ryegrass). More than anything it helps the client see that their watering efforts are worthwhile🙂

Great question. Hydroseeding is cost-effective due to the method and materials used, making it affordable at 20-30 cents per square foot.

Most in the industry try to charge 2-3x the cost of materials. $0.20 can actually be on the low end in some cases!
