I liked La Hacienda more than Mexican Gothic. I may be in the minority on that. And I really enjoyed The Vampires of El Norte, which is much more than a romance and also has a fascinating twist. The Great Divide is a character driven novel and if you don’t expect a scholarly discussion of the history of the canal, I think you will really enjoy it.
La Hacienda will be the next book I pick up :) I can't wait to read it! Actually, I liked the second half of The Great Divide better than the first, I really loved Omar's and Ada's POV.
I just received a new book from El Salvador, The Volcano Daughters by Gina Maria Balibrera. The blurb says” A searingly original novel about sisterhood, art, and a community of women who refuse to be silenced.” Sounds amazing. Also try Crooked Plow by Itamar Vieira Junior. This book is from Brazil and is wonderful. I agree about The Inheritance of Orchidea Divina.
