I've had the priviledge of working for a decade with Andrew Garcia and his family dance group, Tewa Dancers from the North, from Ohkay Owingeh (San Juan) Pueblo, New Mexico, to make the 44-min. documentary "Dancing from the Heart: Journey of a Pueblo Dance Family" and now to get it out there. I hope that viewers will enjoy the excerpt on UA-cam and perhaps explore further on our website, www.dancingfromtheheart-movie.com, which gives info and news on the film and the dance group, and tells where to find more on Pueblo culture. There's also a Shopping Cart page. ;-)
Andy Garcia (Ohkay Owingeh Pueblo), Dancing from the Heart
Back from the Edge - Andy Garcia from Ohkay Owingeh (San Juan) Pueblo talks about overcoming early alcoholism to become a teacher of traditional Pueblo dance. Young family members show the Butterfly Dance and the prayers as he has taught them.
I'd be very interested in your comments!
More information at www.dancingfromtheheart-movie.com, where 44 min. documentary can also be purchased.

Thank you for all your comments and viewing our video. My father has been teaching for over 40 years and this is and will always be his passion. Having our culture has been the greatest gift to us as Pueblo people and sharing this with other people so that they understand the meaning of our dances and beliefs. All Pueblo's are different in some ways but we all beleive in the same creator.
I know it's been a few years but who 's your mother? I am Andy's daughter. Thanks

Thanks from another teacher who is reading "Dancing Rainbows" in our HM anthology. I've embedded this video on my website to share with my students, and it really helps bring the book alive!
Thank you so much for sharing this! I'm doing the story, Dancing Rainbows, with my students and was looking for a video to support my English Language Learners. This really helps bring life to what the story is trying to convey about traditions.
i was always told by my grandparents when praying always start from the east, south, west, and then north. Or is it different from tribe to tribe? Just wondering.
Fabulous! Thank you so much for this wonderful clip. I plan to order the DVD definitely.
