This video helped me a lot, but the funny thing is that one of the reasons it helped me so much was because of the Undertale soundfont part I was using things like the Earthbound soundfont and others that Toby Fox used, but they didn't have some very specific instruments that I wanted, but it never occurred to me that I could just... download an Undertale soundfont and get them lol

I actually do do this sometimes! Not usually for my art. But I have been attempting to make music lately, and I have been going back to try and fix my old songs. The one I have been working on was kinda bad. I had no idea how to progress the song, so I just made it faster. Now, I have managed to add at least some progression in the melody, but now I need to fix everything else. Lots of problem solving skills as you said. It has been surprisingly educational. I love gambling!

just speed it up, adding a rhythmic or arpeggiating (or both) instrument and background string chords and make the bass and drums literally physically impossible to play and you have a touhou song, and also there will always be a piano and it probably will be shredding extremely complicated lines at a extremely rapid pace and still just be in the background and also it is entirely okay to just repeat the same two or even singular melody the entire theme as long as you make it really heckin good (eternal spring dream, kingdom of nothingness)

the trumpets were what forced it into touhou if you were wondering, also i think touhou music is just more hyper aggressive undertale music

As someone who has played every single Pokemon game, from Red and Blue to Scarlet and Violet (and also someone who happens to be a musician as well), I think that this composition does not quite sound like a Pokemon Battle theme, but like a standard JRPG battle theme. Pokemon battle themes have a very distinctive feel and structure to them that's kind of hard to describe, but once you get familiar with a lot of Pokemon battle themes (by listening to them over and over, as well as analyzing them). The most notable things that distance this composition from a Pokemon battle theme I noticed are: the tempo being too slow, the intro section and the chorus being too simillar to each other (the chorus just repeats the motif from the intro section), and the overall structure of this composition does not fit a Pokemon battle theme. And for the record, this is not meant to be hate, just feedback. Looking at this composition not as a Pokemon Battle theme (which it isn't) but as a regular JRPG Battle theme, I can tell that a lot of effort was put into it, and that's what I respect.
