What a great presentation! I will definitely be able to use all this information to look closer at my website. Glad you mentioned WordPress, because my site is through them. Got lots of notes! I have a question about the Texas Rural Grant- this is how I found y'all. I have been in business for over three years but I didn't register my business name until this year. I didn't know if just stating I was in business for over three years was enough or if registering the name was the key to the three years?

Style: The art of negotiating is all about finding your style and your comfort with establishing (and maintaining) boundaries. Creativity and flexibility to achieve those defined objectives will serve you well. I don’t play dirty and I’m typically very direct, because I find the alternative disingenuous and contrary to who I am as a person. Negotiating contrary to your values and personality usually results in internal conflict and failure to meet your objectives. (It’s also stressful and frustrating.) You don’t have to be the loudest barking dog to get what you want, kindness, empathy, and authenticity (while standing your ground) goes a long way. Don’t forget to do your research and understand the listener’s (or other party’s) reality! Their needs and motivation is different than yours. Some quick reading/listening recommendations: Mori Taheripour: I love Mori. I’ve spoken with her in Clubhouse rooms a good bit and she’s a very authentic negotiator which is why we resonate when speaking together. She is a strong advocate of building relationships and bringing empathy into your approach. Her website tells more about her background and her book on amazon is a solid read. Chris Voss: Not my complete style, but a lot of negotiators swear by it and I do utilize some similar tactics. As a former hostage negotiator, he relies more on a very strict code of strong persuasive techniques and never relenting. Here is his book on amazon and he does a Master Class that I would recommend as well. Some other people to follow: Pam Lester on LinkedIn: I’ve spoken on panels with Pam as well and she’s a wealth of knowledge (and has some amazing stories.) She has spent time negotiating with everyone from HBO to Boxing’s biggest names to the Gotti crime family. When we have been on panels together, it was with folks from Scotland Yard, the FBI/CIA, titans of industry, and I wondered if I ended up in the wrong room. If you are on clubhouse, she’s approachable, has great style, and delivers amazing wisdom. Stephen De Groot on LinkedIn: Stephen and I have also been on a few discussions together and he’s extremely empathetic. His style resonates with many that are uncomfortable with the entire concept of negotiating. He does a wonderful job connecting with people and has great advice. He also advertises his Clubhouse and other free speaking events on Instagram. Johanna Renee Baum (Thomas), CPA, CISA CEO and Founder Strategic Security Solutions (S3)
