This song speaks God’s truth to me. I was a victim, but His perfect love has begun a healing in my mind, heart, body and soul. This song touches the brokenness and helps heal the hurt. It’s beautiful and amazing. Thank you Rachael and Toby Mac.

When I listen to things like this it is obvious how and why the traditional (not a 'worship choir' or a group of people standing in a choir loft singing melody back up to a praise band) was eventually phased out of church life: we just weren't that good. And as the church began to struggle in revelancy into the new millenium, desperately seeking new members, trying to figure out how to draw people the all volunteer choir began to be a bit of, if we were truly honest with ourselves, well, an embarrassment. Now, of course, the choir was never told that. We were told that "a new style" was coming and that we were no longer needed. The choir director was going to be let go and we were going to hire a younger, hipper, hotter band leader of sorts to lead music using this new style. In reality, the result was an immediate improvement. The entire worship ministry was suddenly on the shoulders and talents of one person who we could pay and fire at will. No more were the out of tune choral anthems or the music is too loud we can't hear the choir because since it's volunteer several didn't show up this morning attempts at performing church music. Suddenly worship was in the control of the Pastor and all he had to do was talk to one person, deal with one person. He had full control. It's really an amazing phenomenon in the world of music and an amazing study, possible now by simply looking back. And the Church will never go back to that. They now have it too good. It was a daunting effort to begin with. A choir? Forming a choir is difficult. Singing in a choir takes talent and training. Not everyone can lead a choir that takes traditional musical training as well. So much of it depended upon how much musical training and talent a person had BEFORE coming to the choir. And rehearsals once a week??? O my Lord, no choir in the world, other than the volunteer church choir would ever try and exist on one rehearsal a week. You better have some good singers and sight readers to make that happen. So really, it was a doomed experiment from the beginning. And as music got more and more contemporary or as in the 80s and 90s more "bombastic" with the David Clydesdales and musicals and Living Christmas trees, the more difficult it became to pull that stuff off. I mean really out of the hundreds of pieces has anyone EVER heard a church choir sing a typical 80s era David Clydesdale piece with any kind of high level artistry? I know I never have. His music wasn't written for any of my church choirs, it was writtten for professional studio vocialists, of which they performed his pieces well. I just never had a choir with women who could hit high Cs and D flats at 9:00 in the morning. And the orchestrations? Good Lord! Even if we did have an orchestra they couldn't play this stuff - not even close! And we were spending thousands and thousands of dollars on this stuff. The churhc was simply not getting much back in the form of quality musiciansihp. Yeah once in a while a christmas or easter would come along that would fill up the sanctuary to compacity for a big musical that everyone loved but as far as on a Sunday by Sunday basis, not so much. So the choir's demise was inevitable, I see that now. I didn't see it then however. Then, i was very bitter and angry at what was happening. Believing it to be an issue of taste and style, I was very offended when the day came and I was sacked, no longer relevant or necessary in the world of church music. My calling - cancelled. My degrees in church music with a masters and doctorate from the top seminary in the country - useless. But I see so much clearer now as i look back. We sucked. Pure and simple. No sugar coating, no worrying about hurting feelings. To the average listerner walking in off the street - we sucked and because of that our days were merely numbered.
