DownFifty is my weight loss journey to lose an additional 50 pounds.
To encourage myself in this journey I will be making daily vlogs beginning on May 1, 2014. My videos won't focus on covering a full day in my life, they will cover my eating, working out, and health journey as I attempt to lose 50 more pounds over the next few months.
Why fifty pounds?
3 years ago I was 420 pounds. Today I am 350 pounds. Losing 70 pounds has been encouraging to me, but I am not satisfied to stay where I am at. It's time to go DownFifty.

FARMER'S MARKET MEALS!

Sherri and I picked up everything we need to make 3 meals from our local farmer's market today! All of these ingredients are fresh and locally grown. The total cost for everything? $42. Eating healthy can affordable and delicious! What are some of your favorite items to get from your local farmers markets?

Yes, it has been WAY too long. But, I'm flipping the switch and turning DownFifty back on! I have just under 3 months until my 10th anniversary, so let's see how much weight I can lose!

Well, I've realized what I need to do. So, starting this Wednesday I'm getting back to doing my weeky weigh-in videos. This helped me lose over 50 pounds in 2014, and i've been struggling since I gave them up, so it's time to get back on the scale and start making videos again!

Day 142 into a 153 day (5 month) weight loss challenge and I hit my goal! I am down 50.2 pounds! Wow. Thank you all SO much for watching. Your comments and messages have been SO encouraging to me. Now what? My next goal is 299.9 pounds by November 19th.

Laura Scopel Laura - I haven't done it, but i've heard good things! One of my long term goals is to do a 5K, so I'm sure that I will eventually be using it. What have you heard about it?

I was so tempted to go through a drive through on the way home from work today but I didn't. I drove home, then WALKED back to the supermarket to buy a chicken breast and some green beans to make myself a healthy dinner. I'm struggling to make the right decisions but I'm not regretting them after I make them!
Urgh, I'm an idiot. The point of that comment was that I thought about you your wife and your first 50 pounds of weight loss and kept driving. Very inspiring! So thank you!
Laura Scopel I. LOVE. THIS. Good job! We have found that weight loss always comes down to your next decision. I can plan long term and have goals, but if the next decision I make isn't a healthy one, I'm not making progress. Great job making a great choice!
DownFifty I think that has been my problem before. I have always justified that packet of unhealthy food or drink with "It's only one thing" but over the whole day it ended up being about 700 calories of bad decisions (on a good day!).

DownFifty yeah I've actually done several before. I win but don't keep it off. A lot of obstacles relating to anxiety etc but I've been focusing on that recently and feel happy and confident in myself to try again and stick to it! Did you find recording your journey helped/made you accountable?
MandyGeorgia Honestly, I don't know that I would have lost the weight if I hadn't recorded it and put it out there. It created a level of accountability that was huge for me. I didn't want to fail for myself, but I also didn't want to fail in front of all of you. There were a lot of times when I wanted fast food, but I knew that I was going to have to get on a scale in front of a camera, and that drove me to make a better decision. I've also been SO encouraged and inspired by the community that is forming here. Hearing comments from people who watch about their journey has been huge. We are in this together!

I always find that it is the changes in my diet that are the most challenging. I always feel so hungry when I don't eat as much! Joined up with dietbet for some encouragement, lets see how it goes!
Jason - I totally understand. One thing that has really helped us is when we do smoothies we make A LOT so that anytime we get hungry, we have more. And we allow ourself as much healthy snacking as we need. We found that if a diet forces us to be hungry all of the time, we slip off it quickly. Now we do lots of healthy snacking, big smoothies, and that's really helped us!
Thanks, that is some good advice. I have yet to try doing the smoothies, I can never afford to make them. But I suppose when it comes down to it I could really afford them I guess.
Yum! I'm adding this to my meal plan for the week. I might put some cilantro in there too.
This is really motivating for me! I'm about to start a dietbet with the aim of losing 15% of my body weight. I've subscribed and I'll be watching every video for a bit more motivation to help me out.
I'm also curious as to if you guys were big soda drinkers? I'm from Australia and a goal for me is to try and give up my favourite drink - CocaCola - but it's 42C (107F) today and nothing beats an icy cold can of it. Do you have any tips for reducing the cravings? Whenever I have a can of Coke I can't help but think about how many good times I've had having a can with my friends and family on a hot Summer day down at the beach...
Laura Scopel Hi Laura! First, thanks SO much for watching and subscribing! Second, yes, soda is something we both have given up for the most part. On the rare occasion we still may have a soda here and there, but we have tried to cut back at least 90% of the soda we used to drink. It isn't just soda though, it's really any sugars. We've both found it incredibly difficult to lose weight if we don't cut back / out our sugar consumption. I certainly agree that a soda on a hot summer day is just about perfect, but maybe try some healthier options. Coconut water? Ice cold water with slices of orange, lime, cucumber in it for some flavor?
Good idea! I don't think I can go cold turkey right now but I think if I try and replace 2 out of every 3 with a lemon water that will help. My goal today is to buy a big water bottle that I can sip at when I'm craving sugar.

Although I haven't gained any more. 2015 will be the year when I actually take control of what I put in my mouth, and realise that that is just as important as the exercise I do. Happy New Years :)

This is GREAT! Thanks Sheri for sharing your views too. The part about making smaller goals did really help me. Dietbet (where I met Adam) has helped me do that. It's way easier to loose 4kg at a time vs 25 kg. I've now lost 19 kg since April. Now I'm trying to balance things out to make this last.

I know it's easy to say to someone 'oh you're an inspiration, you're doing a great job' but after watching your videos I truly feel like that Adam. It's so weird to me that a stranger on another side of the planet can make me think about what I'M doing with my life, trying to live healthier etc. Seeing someone else struggle with the same things and knowing that they can still find motivation is SO powerful to me. I don't know how to explain it differently, I hope this makes sense even though English is not my language XD I just wanted to say, you ARE really an inspiration to me on this journey. I've lost 28 pounds so far. I have my ups and downs but overall feel like I have changed bad habbits into good habbits. This is a lifestyle I can hold on to, versus doing crazy diets in the past that were very unhealthy. Anyway, this ramble ends here XD Keep up the good work Adam!
Were you in a caloric deficit each day of the week? Consistency in that area is key.

Amazing 6lbs in a week we'll done. I've been on my weight loss journey since the 26th of April and I have lost 45.6 pounds so far. I have loat my weight by attending a hypnotist for a weight control hypnosis program and it has worked wonders for me. I speak about my experience of weight control hypnosis On my channel too. ***** We visited Waterford! We flew into Dublin, drove across to Galway, and then did the southern loop (Adare, Dingle, Cobh, Waterford, Cashel) and then back up to Dublin.
