    Honestly over time, I’ve realized the bar is quite low, not high, for literary agents because of how many horrible or boring stories/plot lines/characters there are out there. On top of this, how many bad amateur writers there are, and I’m one of them. I just started writing but have been doing it full time this entire year. Though I am concerned about that aspect of my book, it does help me sleep at night knowing most stories in that slush pile are awful, and so I at least have that going for me. At the worst, I can always just hire a bunch of line editors to shape up my prose. I think what authors need to do is first look for an iconic story, one that will take off light twilight, hunger games, or Percy Jackson. One that’s original, missing from the market. Then, and only then, proceed to dive down the rabbit hole.

  • @VinnyTheory
    @VinnyTheory Місяць тому

    After watching half of this video, it’s easy to see the issue with your book is that it’s not very marketable and you didn’t keep in mind marketability when you initially wrote it. Harry Potter is marketable, twilight is marketable, hunger games, Percy Jackson. You probably wrote an epic fantasy that was so “high fantasy” that it’s too high, it’s too ‘out there’ and not ‘iconic’ if that makes sense. Since this is non-starter criticism, as in feedback that doesn’t help you change anything, the literary agents have no negative feedback to say other than “not marketable” or “not what I’m looking for”. For your next book, rather than writing something too complex, remember why certain iconic movies and books are iconic and analyze what makes them iconic

    • @VinnyTheory
      @VinnyTheory Місяць тому

      This being said, I’ve never read your book. I don’t even know its title. I’m sure it’s good, at least it sounds like it. And so, if you think about a crazy “out there” high concept fantasy like lord of the rings, I’m sure at first glance it was a hard pill to swallow and didn’t seem marketable. So, I would take the literary agents advice, and remember that there may be agents out there that do know why or how it could be marketable. I hope this feedback actually helped, unlike the agents feedback 😂

    • @lilrosetattoo
      @lilrosetattoo Місяць тому

      What makes something marketable isn’t always apparent at the query stage. Harry Potter was rejected dozens of times before it got picked up and even then the publisher likely had no idea it was going to be a massive success. Books are art and art is incredibly subjective. Debuting with a series is a tough sell because the publishing houses have no idea if your first book is going to sell well and they may be under contract for more books by an author who isn’t selling well. It doesn’t mean they never pick up series from debut authors…it just means the idea needs to be incredibly strong to get any attention at all. Its easy to tell another author “well just make your book more marketable” and then cite runaway best sellers as your examples. The reality is very few books hit the numbers that Harry Potter hit. It’s like catching lightning in a bottle. This writer has very realistic expectations and clearly has done the research into the current state publishing.

    • @lilrosetattoo
      @lilrosetattoo Місяць тому

      Also the examples you have aren’t high fantasy. High fantasy is set in a wholly original world with no connection to our own. Your examples would be considered low fantasy because they are connected to our world or are very similar. High fantasy is Lord of the Rings, Wheel of Time or Game of Thrones. Harry Potter starts his story in the UK.

  • @VinnyTheory
    @VinnyTheory Місяць тому

    Series are easier to sell, and authors are encouraged to write them

      From memory, I believe I used the "Script" pen in the "Calligraphy" panel. But I could be wrong. Though that is one of my favorite brushes.

  • @lilrosetattoo
    @lilrosetattoo Місяць тому

    I’m in the same boat. Wrote an epic fantasy series as a debut but on the flip side 85% of fantasy books are series. It’s a tenant of the genre. Wishing you the best of luck on your querying journey. I anticipate possibly having to self publish or writing a standalone to enter the traditional publishing world.

      Thank you so much. I'm looking at both of those options as well. Hoping you find success with your epic fantasy series!

  • @PhoenixCreationsKaTyJs

    Thank you for this. I am making a digital planner idea but instead it’s more of a digital log of canal holidays for my parents golden anniversary, they have been every year since a week before I was mobile, apparently if I’d been mobile I’d have been left with the grandparents lol - that’s a lot of years! Then I realised what would halogen to all the links if a page was added into the “planner” I was worried it would break the links! I’m doing this so that mum can add in their new canal holiday logs as well. The blank ones will have 3 options 7, 14 or 21 days, at least that’s what I was thinking but I was concerned about all the extra unused pages this would create, it would be along the lines of a digital planner weekly page with the option of vertical or horizontal layouts, but I realised I’d need to make 63 pages to accomplish this to allow jumping to days without scrolling! I’m still thinking on this. The other question I have is a hyperlink, cna you place text or things over it and it still work when clicked. Eg a blank tab with a hyperlink set then the end user comes along to label that tab, would the hyperlink still be accessible to use? Thank you in advance if you can help here 😊😊😊

    • @AlinaDampt

      I'm not 100% positive about the answer to your question, but I think it could work. Also, that is so fun for your parents :D

      With a quick google search a lot of people suggest either Vectornator or iArtbook. I've never used them so I can't vouch for their ability, but the opinion of most is that the Procreate app is definitely worth the $10 investment. Totally up to you though and your needs!

    Here's my results if anyone's interested :) I actually went a bit more detailed with mine, at least initially, but like you I did a lot of refining. I gave an idea of things I wanted a didn't want based on my age and modesty, some style keywords, (boho, cottagecore, grandmacore, honeycore, light academia, with touches of girly, romantic academia, dark academia, and goblincore. I want to be very cozy, soft, warm, general good vibes, but with a slightly grungy, dark, rough around the edges vibe. Think "retired hippy with 8 grandkids who makes cookies and cold processed soap and has a veg garden but also dances naked under the full moon and might have killed her daughter's abusive ex husband with home grown poison.") I also gave some examples of items I like to wear just like you did as well as some that I hate (like halternecks xD I have it in for them) and some general style notes (I like anything with a hankie hem, asymmetrical hem, drapes, anything flared or generally poofy, patchwork, crochet, flower or nature themes.... I went on for a while) and gave some of my preferred colours. I then finished with "please create a spring capsule wardrobe to fit my style, with a focus on cozy, boho, and cottagecore. Please include colour ideas, fabric ideas, print ideas, accessories, shoes, and some hairstyles and make up ideas you think would suit my vibe. Please be specific with the style of the items and give example outfits out of those items." The results were actually pretty much perfect, with enough vagueness to allow for my own tweaks but specific enough to give some good ideas. Some of it was a bit generic and there were a couple of areas where I could tell I'd confused the AI like I'd used "cool" to refer to both colours and seasonal styles, so I clarified some language and in the end this is what I got: The items I got were: - 2 milkmaid tops, one in sage green and one in rose beige lace - 2 flowy wrap tops, one with fitted sleeves in a floral print (my choice of colours) and one with bell sleeves in cool purple - A white peasant top and a moss-green peasant tunic with folkloric embroidery - A claret long sleeved top with a boat neckline - 2 cropped sweaters, one oversized and chunky in dark taupe and one mid weight and cable-knit in dark poppy red - A chunky knit rose brown sweater with balloon sleeves and a boat neckline - 2 cropped cardigans, one in cool beige and one in rose brown - A spruce green shrug with flared sleeves - An open "kimono style" lace cardigan in soft dark green - A granny-style knit cardigan in assorted cool brown colours, all cozy and over-sized - Cool cocoa-brown waterfall cardigan - 2 pairs of wrap pants, one taupe and one sage green - 3 pairs of harem pants, one champagne, one rose-brown, one dark purple - Suede wide-leg pants in forest green - Classic flared blue jeans, OC Hippy style - Dark poppy red leggings - A hankie-hem maxi skirt with a floral boho print - A tiered patchwork maxi skirt with assorted cool browns and claret red - A grey-blue midi length wrap skirt - 2 skirts in my choice of style, one cool-toned dark purple and one dark poppy-red - A midi length prairie dress with a cool brown and green nature print - Dark purple maxi dress with simply waist gathering - A long suede coat with a hood and boho embroidery - Tan sandals and green lace-up sandals - Dark brown ankle boots - Sage green hiking boots - For "other items and accessories" I got a faded grey-blue capelet, a patchwork pinafore, sash belts in dark purple and soft moss, a flower crown, a charm bracelet, boho earrings, and a bunch of chunky brown wooden jewellery - Hairstyle recommendations were loose waves or braids with flower or circlet accessories or a messy bun or low ponytail for a relaxed vibe, and make up was "earthy tones for eyeshadows like brown and green, muted lip colors like rose or berry, and a good skincare routine with no foundation or contour, just a touch of highlighter, concealer, bronzer, or blush as the mood takes you." Overall a resounding success! I would say my only real changes would be adding some neutrals but considering I asked for a colourful spring wardrobe with a theme I don't think I can complain about what was delivered, especially since I would already have core pieces separate from my seasonal wardrobe. It's probably worth noting that I loved the results so much I asked for more items xD hence why my list is quite long. I definitely recommend specifying how many items you want if anyone's reading this planning to do it themselves. Also yeah letting chat pick the colours and then refining it seems to be the best way to go, I tried both ways (that one and giving it my colour recs) an I felt like both worked but the colour recs limited things a bit and ended up with some awkward outfits and jarring colour combos. I got more neutrals and some better outfit ideas when I let Chat pick the palette from the beginning.

      OH! Also, my nan was the fashionista of the family she says there's three rules for wearing gold and silver together, IDK if she's legit but these have always worked for me and every time I've seen a look that I've thought looks good they follow the rules. 1 - Wear a combined piece that's big and present enough to get noticed, she had a double ouroboros statement necklace and a two toned belt and would always wear one or both of those if she was mixing the two. Mixing up smaller items of the same kind is a good way to do it too, like lots of delicate necklaces or multiple rings. 2 - Make sure the styles are cohesive even if the colours aren't, so rings, bangles, and hoop earrings, or flowers, something like that. The same goes for the shade of gold, don't wear like, cool-toned gold, silver, and then bright brassy gold items as well, because the bright gold will clash. 3 - If you have something you always wear like your wedding ring let that set the tone for the rest. So as per the first two rules, if your wedding ring is bright gold and diamond, use bright gold and diamond jewellery elsewhere and find a silver diamond jewellery that compliments the tone. Hope this works for you!

    Great video. Your wardrobe has tons of style! I bet you would like finding your type by David Zyla, because your wardrobe not only features certain colors and cuts, but a total personality/vibe. I’m curious which archetype you are. I’m Spicy Autumn. It’s not just about color. He has a book and it’s actually really easy to find your type on your own. I did my own type with the book, then i actually saw him (which was waaaay too expensive) but it turned out I got REALLY close to my colors on my own.

    Hello! I really liked your budget tracker! That's so good. However, I have a question, what should I do If I want to personolise the categories? For example, change or add a new category

      Hey Ryte! You should be using the file in an app like Goodnotes 5, Notability, and other similar PDF Editors. Goodnotes 5 is the app it is optimized for. Shoot me a message on Instagram @alinadampt if you have more questions.
