The actor, at 6:06, has no idea how to load a cap and ball pistol. All he did was put gun powder in the weapon. No bullet or primer.

Yeah, that was our fault. One of our biggest misses in this.

Quite a thought provoking film, well constructed with great performances. It makes you wonder how often this kind of scene played out for real when that war ended. Whether it be low level discrimination such as refusal of trade or services to outright violence.

So convenient--you can reload by simply pouring a bit of powder into god knows where! Just like in the video game.

I think I know why he kept missing those cans. He was just chucking some powder into the gun, no lead ball. He was basically shooting blanks. Ain't gonna hit a can at that distance with just a blank. He should have practiced how to load a gun first.

First comment is that I loved the movie for all of the reasons mentioned by other commenters. It was very well done. Having said that I sincerely wish that movie makers would learn something about firearms if you are going to use them in your movie. The guns used in this production were period correct, which is great, but none of them were ever loaded. I understand that you don't want loaded guns on a movie set for safety sake, but they can be faked to appear to be loaded, even the Colt Walker replicas used in this movie.

A student made film. Excellent work. I wish I'd been a student in your endeavor and learned from all of the cast and crew what was needed and done to put this film in Toto. At 79 yrs old, I admire your efforts and am jealous to not have learned more of your combined knowledge. So very well done.

I appreciate the effort and the story, but… it’s not hard to research for appropriate historical accuracy. The dragoon was well past its prime and a yankee (the north being industrialized and had plenty of modern for the era firearms) would have, at the least, an 1860 army cap and ball.

He closes the barn door on his grandpa, while he’s banging on that horseshoe, and he leaves him in total darkness!🤣😂 What an idiotic mistake by the director...but then again a good actor could’ve improvised and yelled, “hey, open that damn door, I can’t see shit!”😂

The story was probably played out many times. The filming in the acting was well done. The father who gave his son shooting lessons may have had a most important role. Truly, there was much more going on within this tale of 1867 than could be told.

The reason he wasn't hitting the target, is because he wasn't putting balls in the pistol. Maybe hiring a good technical advisor would have been a good idea.
