Prelude Visée
A Prelude to Visée's guitar suite in D-minor. Visée is one of my favorite musicians, and certainly my favorite lutenist. He was the court musician for Louis XIV, and wrote for the guitar, as well as the lute, theorbo, and others. It's a pleasure to play baroque music written for the guitar directly, and not some other instrument which has been transcribed and adapted somehow to fit the modern 6 strings. Genuine and undiluted.
The purpose of these collections is solely to index all the music that I have learned/made over the years, putting them all in one easily accessible place.

Ground in Bm (Purcell)

My goal with these videos is to record what I can play, how I play it. This includes all the imperfections too. Thus there are many errors, I even get lost twice, and have to find my way back. I've been trying to polish my playing and record a good take for a while now. It is not possible. Anyone who plays it well must be faking it somehow. That said, this is probably the most difficult piece I...
Ambivalence II (Original Composition)
Переглядів 145Місяць тому
Ambivalence - uncertainty, or a coexistence of opposing emotions. This is the second iteration of this piece. I play it, change it a bit, come up with some new stuff, and call it a new piece. I hate having to stop and say "it's done" when there's always something else you can try. So I don't. It's quite freeing to never be finished, and always progressing. This is a composition I keep coming ba...
Baglama Improvisation
Переглядів 64Місяць тому
I built this instrument in 2022, finishing it around October. This is a video from around that time, of me playing around on it. The Baglama is a Turkish instrument, and there are several sizes. This one is rather small, so as to be highly portable. The scale length is long though, compared to its body size, at 26 inches. This style of instrument has been around for a very long time, with the M...
Bach's Little Fugue & AI Dreaming

Bach's Little Fugue, rendered on a synth. I arranged it, and since I shoot myself in the foot by not getting a paid DAW, I don't have the ability to download MIDI, so I have to recreate it by ear, which is very hard and takes forever, but does wonders for my musical understanding. It uses a simple saw-wave, with each voice played in a different "location", front-left, front-right, rear-left, an...

Sor Etude No. 3 Op. 35

From Sor's 24 Exercices très faciles. I imagine this being played by a pirate or something. It sounds very old and somber, but is still fun to play. The purpose of these collections is solely to index all the music that I have learned/made over the years, putting them all in one accessible place.
Ambivalence (Original Composition)

Ambivalence - uncertainty, or a coexistence of opposing emotions. I wrote this based on the opening Am-add9 chord, with its shimmering dissonance. I then found some more chords with a similar feel to them. The progression I try to keep from being predictable, as though it cant make up its mind where to go... The purpose of these collections is solely to index all the music that I have learned/m...

Another very popular piece by the very popular composer. The B section takes some practice with those barre chords high up the neck. If you play it fast enough, you cant easily tell most of the notes dont ring clear. Gymnopédie No. 1
Переглядів 824 місяці тому
This is the first of the "Three Gymnopédies", published by Erik Satie in 1888. Satie was a very, very weird guy, inventing ambient music (where songs would consist of a section to be repeated several hundred times), only eating white foods, carrying a hammer for self-defense, collecting umbrellas, and not considering himself a musician, and owning a piano "for storage purposes". Some very nice ...
A Scott's Tune
Переглядів 2504 місяці тому
This is a Renaissance lute piece published in 1616 in the Jane Pickering Lute Book, either in England or Ireland. This piece (probably from Scotland), sounds completely different, (sometimes unrecognizably so), depending on which source the player pulls from, because these common songs were played and replayed, gradually changing form and mutating as they spread from place to place over decades...
Tombeau Sur la Mort de M. Comte d'Logy

Tombeau (French for "tomb", a song for a recently deceased), written for the lutanist Comte D'Logy. This is the first "advanced" piece I learned. I learned it all the way back in 2021, and it was way out of my skill level at the time. This piece is very special to me, since how I play it has evolved with me. It is massive, an A and a B section, each played twice. It was originally written for t...

This was the first intermediate to late intermediate piece I learned. It was very difficult at first, and it was the first piece I learned to play in renaissance lute tuning. I love renaissance counterpoint. The purpose of these collections is solely to index all the music that I have learned/made over the years, putting them all in one easily accessible place.

This is a popular English folk song. Most people have heard it, but few realize it's been around since at least 1580. There is a legend that it was written by Henry III for his love Anne Boleyn. This is probably not true, but it's still very pretty and fun to play. The purpose of these collections is solely to index all the music that I have learned/made over the years, putting them all in one ...

Prelude De Mouton, played on the Harp Guitar
Muy lindo .esta en RE ( D).
Lovely thank you
Hello Ethan, very good! I subscribe, greetings.
I love your descriptions, the honesty in them and how you are being creative for the act of being creative, nothing more. Reflecting the patience and struggles when doing so on your channel. I just bought a classical guitar, because I just love the Sound. Do you have any tips for an absolute novice to the guitar ( or any instrument). Which song can you recommend to start with, how did you learn ? :)
Thank you for your comment. I picked up guitar over the pandemic, and initially I just played songs I liked to listen to. (Pink Floyd, mostly). But I was always kind of dissatisfied, because I could never hope to sound like them, unless I had similar gear, not to mention the skill. Luckily, my Grandfather plays too, and he used to teach me how to do certain things, and he played with me. Then, one day, I listened to Romanza, a song on the classical guitar. ua-cam.com/video/tfBZIClY7KU/v-deo.html . I was enchanted by the sound and style. Since then, i've fallen in love with the classical guitar. I think the key is to learn songs you love to play, and not simply love to hear, because you might be discouraged if you dont sound like they do. I would recomend playing with others, if you can, especially those more skilled than you, since they can teach and troubleshoot. Also, use the internet. Look up things like "Simple classical guitar pieces". Videos like this, for example, are helpful, for they show chord shapes, and explain things ua-cam.com/video/QS7XrzkqZ14/v-deo.html Once you get a handle on some chord shapes and simple melodies, try to find music that inspires you, and if you cant always find the tableture for music, try to watch and listen to someone play, and decipher how they play it based on your ear. That's a bit more advanced, and is difficult to do, but it really helps you understand the music more. Sorry for writing a whole essay ;) I hope this was helpful.
how do you get audio quality like this?
I'm recording audio and video directly through my iPhone 15 Pro. I've considered using an external microphone, or at least adding reverb after the fact, but decided it didnt matter to me, so what you hear is the raw recording.
To me, it sounds similar to a sitar. Are they related? Enjoyed the sound/ video
Very distantly, yes. This is a Turkish instrument, but this, the guitar, the lute, the sitar, pipa, etc., are all related to ancient instruments played in Egypt/Sumeria. Interestingly, there are carvings from over three thousand years ago with instruments that look identical to this, frets and all.
hey man, it's E here, you better remember me when you're at the top bro. btw you're rocking that beard and mustache
Very pretty and expressive that enchants and stir feelings, cheers!
❤
Great song by F.Tarrega and excellent performance 👏🎸👍thanks for sharing All the best
bro build anythings to be a classic man
what
keep going
How long have u been playing the classical guitar?
For classical guitar, learning it seriously, maybe three years, but about four years of guitar in total.
awesome!!!
Very nice sharing
full support my bro keep posting😃
Lovely
cool
The beard looks awesome
Damn bro, the beard goes crazy
Sickk one bro
where did you find the tabs?
From this video: ua-cam.com/video/T7Z2uMEt1Mw/v-deo.html Then I kind of did my own thing a little bit. He added some reverb I think, and as well as being a far better musician than myself, I prefer his performance. I just added a bit more to the ending section to my preference.
Well done! Nice arrangement!😊
why do you have 2 capos?
The silver one didn't pull the A and D strings down enough, so I put on the other I had. I just recorded without taking the first one off.
beatyfull
it's very cool
It's a really calming, serene melody, thanks for sharing :)
I'm glad you like it!
Wow nice lute! I love Weiss’s music and wish I new may way around guitars and lutes.
Thanks! I hope someday soon-ish to learn more pieces for it. I feel the same way with keyboard instruments. Hopefully we both get a chance to learn the other's instrument a little.
@@Ethan_Frost Sadly a hand injury limits my left hand from doing too much sophisticated on a fret board. I can play chords, but the demands of a renaisance or baroque lute would probably be too much. I'm content to appreciate, mostly!
Bro sound is Too Low
I think you're right... Perhaps I will redo this with a capo or something.

Fabulous!!!!!!
Love the Spanish flavor ❤
Keep this one in your repertoire, there's a lot of potential in this piece. Cheers
Well done! I enjoyed the simplicity of this! Sometimes less is more
Cool
Lovely

Hope you're able to fix your lute. I love hearing you play
Damn no likes? This ks beautiful
Be the first
Lekker hoor!
Perfect man. Keep going.
Very unique instrument. Sounds beautiful.
Gran sound!!, whats wood is your soundboard?
The soundboard is made of pine. This is uncommon for lutes, but not unheard of, as some historical instruments had pine soundboards as well. The description of the video has a ton of information, if you’re interested.
That’s rad Ethan!!
