Welcome to our channel! We are GNK Adventures - G for Greg, N for Natalie and K for KITT (our Knight Rider replica car). We’re taking a 6-month sabbatical from “regular life” to travel the US, on the trip of a lifetime. Crossing from one coast to the other and back again, we’ll be seeing the sights along the way, and as Greg’s grandma used to say “it’ll be an adventure”. So come along for the ride!
Seattle, Washington
Continuing on our trip without KITT (he's heading home), we're taking the train to Seattle! 22 hours in a sleeper compartment - time went by very quickly and it was very relaxing not having to drive for a change. Saw the sights in Seattle and the weather wasn't terrible (even saw some sunshine) - toured the Museum of Flight and LeMay Car Museum - both highly recommended. Had a nice cruise on the harbour to visit Bainbridge Island.

We stayed in Denver, Colorado, for a few nights, stopping in to see the Colorado Railroad Museum and taking a ride on the narrow-gauge mountain Georgetown Loop Railroad. While in the mountains we also took a tour at the Argo Gold Mill & Tunnel and a wander through the local town of Idaho Springs. Downtown Denver was a good wander too - we finally managed to visit a state capitol building - it w...
Rural Iowa & Omaha, Nebraska

We're going rural! Deep in the sticks of Iowa we're visiting the other half of the Knight Rider Historians, AJ Palmgren, and dining at his local (world-famous) steakhouse. KITT gets to tick a few more items off his parts shopping list from AJ's vas collection of spare stuff, and then we're off again, to Omaha, Nebraska. Skipped visiting Warren Buffett, but we did see the excellent Durham Museum...

We had a weekend in Chicago, starting off with visiting the very popular Museum of Science & Industry. The German WWII submarine on display there is our favourite exhibit, but there are lots of other amazing things to see and do as well. We had the next day out with our friend Eric, visiting some Knight Rider filming locations in downtown Chicago, and getting our fill of the local food (hotdogs...

On our way from Detroit to Chicago we had a couple of overnight stops - in Elkhart, Indiana (a return visit for us), and Pontiac, Illinois. As KITT is a Pontiac, and the town of Pontiac is on Route 66, this was a really fun stop. There's a Route 66 museum, a Pontiac car museum, and space to take photos with some cool murals (photo below of KITT posing).

We're travelling west! Visiting the Ohio State Reformatory - it was still in operation until 1990, and very over-crowded by that point - an amazing building. Onward to Michigan, we spend a couple of days in Detroit, visiting the Henry Ford Museum of American Innovation (highly recommend), popping by General Motors headquarters (photo op for KITT) and visiting the newly restored Michigan Central...

Ticking off KITT's bucket list - we're in Pittsburgh to visit Joe Huth, of the Knight Rider Historians, and see his collection of original vehicles that were actually used on the show. Along with a Trans-am (KITT, meet the "real" KITT), he has the truck and trailer unit that were used as the mobile command centre - that KITT drove up the ramp into the back of. Interesting stories for all of the...

We continue to drive deeper into West Virginia - there aren't any interstate highways where we're going! We get slightly distracted by the Lost World Caverns in Lewisburg, then travel on to Marlinton for the Greenbrier River rail trail. We've moving pretty quickly, so after that it's on to Cumberland, Maryland for an overnight stop, then Port Allegany, Pennsylvania (to visit our favourite burge...

We're in Abingdon to ride the (rather famous) Virginia Creeper rail trail. It's quite an exciting one - downhill, with some steep bits and with the recent rain quite muddy and potholed. We intended to go tubing (float down the river on a tube) on the other day we were here, but that was cancelled due to predicted heavy rain. We visited Thurmond, a railroad ghost town deep in the West Virginia w...

We first visited Pilot Mountain in 2016 on a road trip. We only had one night, and always wanted to return, so we made the effort on this trip to spend a couple of nights in this log cabin in the woods. It's not *quite* as creepy as it looks, but you definitely don't want to be watching too many "they went into the woods to stay for the weekend in a log cabin" type horror movies before visiting...
Greenville, South Carolina

With a whole week in Greenville, we had time for a bit of KITT care - a tune-up on his crossfire injection system with an expert, and a visit to Hawks to have a look around their very extensive parts yard. We had a wander around the beautiful downtown Greenville park with its Falls and suspension bridge. We also biked the Swamp Rabbit rail trail and visited the local history museum - saw an int...

We had a short stay in Gatlinburg, just enough time to take a short spin through Pigeon Forge, visit the famous Buc-ee's gas station, with its 120 gas pumps (!), wander the main road in Gatlinburg itself and take a short, peaceful walk in the woods. And of course, we tasted the local moonshine!

We're at Southern Knights Atlanta! This is an annual gathering of Knight Rider fans, mostly from the US, although we, along with a few others, make it an international event. This year is the 40th anniversary of the iconic 'KITT vs KARR' episode (KARR was KITT's evil twin), so along with a garage full of KITT replicas we also had a couple of KARRs. A great weekend of catching up with old friend...

Second half of the week in Savannah we took Kitt for a drive to Beaufort, South Carolina. We were testing his air and water-tightness after the "Florida event" earlier in the week (see the first Savannah video, if you haven't already!). In Beaufort we took a peek at the Spanish Moss rail trail and looked around downtown. Back in Savannah we went on a ghost tour (as you do when you're here), and...

A few questions. How come you shipped KITT there with you?. And how were you able to drive it on the roads there?. Also, why didnt you just get the original qtr panel fixed at the panel beaters?
@@NBLonUtube why not ship the car? Fun thing to do! You can drive a foreign car for up to a year before you need to register it locally. Too expensive and time consuming to fix the qtr panel in the US - easier to sort it out from home.
@@GNK.Adventures Yeah I understand. Why not just fix the qtr panel in NZ is what I meant?.
@ yep, that’s what we’ll be doing 🙂
@@GNK.Adventures The Original panel lol.
Enjoyed all of your videos of your adventures! Keep us up to date on KITTs progress getting fixed up. Take care!
@@JulieDeOutdoors thanks for your support! Will definitely keep you up to date on progress - KITT’s due off the ship next week so will be enjoying some time in the body shop getting his repair work done. Should be back by Christmas hopefully, in time for our summer holidays 😀

Oh my goodness! When I saw this video I just wanted to bolt out of my seat and ask my brother in law to drive to Pittsburgh so that I could see with my own eyes and touch that KITT. To have the original tractor with the original trailer it’s, it’s just amazing. That’s a big part of my childhood right there. To see it all in person would probably bring tears to my eyes, tears of joy that is. Thank you for this wonderful video my friend. I would love to visit and reminisce about the good old years when KITT was on the tube.
@@davecardoza4762 wow! Pleased you enjoyed the video. You can stay up to date on what the Knight Rider Historians are up to, including the restoration of the tractor and trailer over on their UA-cam channel - Knight Rider Historians. Enjoy!

@@NealVio stay up to date with the restoration over on the Knight Rider Historians channel if you’re interested!
@@GNK.Adventures I have to give you a lot of credit. Your detective work was immense, finding scenes with IDs, receipts and going through a deep search and there's a lot of episodes you have to watch for clues to get some of that info.

I am from South Park PA. Your living the dream. Do you take it to any of the local car cruises I have not seen it yet.
@@tomrodgers6629 no the original doesn’t get out much!
@@GNK.Adventures OK thank you.
I have let a few friends that are building their own replicas. Drive my kitt. They were not to the point of having a gulwing yet. Their ear to ear grins were worth it.
I’m hoping one day to build my Mad Max car. I would love to do the black interceptor but I’m kind of leaning to doing a Holden Monaro like the nightrider stole off the MFP ( it’s a lot easier finding small block Chevy parts on something like the hot rod power tour.) Building a Holden or even the yellow police car is easier cause they don’t have as many features that might not make it past PA’s notoriously strict car inspection rules. The blower might not be legal sticking that far up. And I know the sidepipes definitely wouldn’t pass. Or they wouldn’t a few years back
Whose TA was that with smashed rear end? I hope it wasn't one of Joes originals.
Haha, not an original, it’s our replica. Repairs starting soon!
Pittsburgh pa loves knight rider yeah buddyyyyy
Would love to meet you and see your cats you got the knight rider sickness lolololol your like way past ever coming back from this kind of stuff lol your gonna end up remaking the show all over again bro 😎 what your doing is awesome keep your dreams going that is super cool I have always loved knight rider show watched it growing up in the 1980s it was super fun living in a time with such beautiful cars was like the greatest things around
It’s in Pittsburgh pa every year you may know just thinking
take your cars to the world of wheels car show at the convention center I think it’s in January 19th thru the 21st 2024 this world be a dream to see them omg I love these cars god bless you all
I will try to see the original KITT next time Joe brings it to a local car show.
Sorry Mr Corvette, but your car will never be as cool as KITT! 😆
SO the gauges in dash dont work im assuming nothing works in dash . Also I cant believe you have had this car all this time and never tookit to a body shop and got a nice paint job.
He would destroy the originality of it if he were to do that. See the car has been bondod together so many times that to do a good paint job would require the vehicle be completely taken to bare metal and the damaged body parts be replaced with either NOS or doner parts that might not be “ straight”. Then like he said it’s 15 layers of paint so you would be taking a ridiculous amount of time to strip it down to replace stuff like the rear quarter panel. Some of the parts are irreplaceable as they were made by George Barris personally to obscure its origins as a Pontiac Trans-Am. ( FYI when the show first aired people went to Pontiac dealers thinking they could get the same car, until GM asked universal to obscure its logos and remove anything specifically identifying it as a Pontiac Firebird Trans-Am. This included removing the little PMD tags on the front seats or at least obscuring them). Wiring the displays is also no small task as it requires removal of the dash and extensive work to make them read properly. All told doing a new paint job on this car would involve a considerable amount of work and expense, plus finding a shop to handle such a task it no easy job ( lots of second rate body shops around here but not very many good ones, good ones are booked months in advance cause they’re good. I know I live not to far from Pittsburgh in the west hills/airport area )

Hi Greg! I got to meet you at the 2024 Southern Knights Atlanta. I was the guy with the little 4yr old boy checking out all the cars in the garage early on in the evening. Very awesome to see you meet Joe himself at his place and see the original KITT car! Safe travels!

Not a tractor. It’s a truck
I believe it’s call a tractor in the beginning 1900 till the 70,s
They are still called tractors here in the U.S.
No it’s still a tractor, though some trucking companies refer to them as “ power units “. It’s drivers preference

This proves that Atlanta is definitely a traffic disaster. If your in downtown Atlanta, your probably in the hood. I wish I could have seen your car. It would have been the first time I saw Knight Industries Two Thousand in person. I have never seen one in Atlanta before.✌🏾💥
Your vlog is informational but I was angered with the attempt at humor in reference to the colored waiting room entrance. It's difficult for you to understand I'm sure. Just try to be more sensitive to the history of the South please. Thank you 🙏🏾

@@GNK.Adventures Cool, I will look forward to that video. Cape Hatteras is closed right now for renos so it was good you didn't plan on going there. I think they said they would be back open for climbing in 2026. Bodie Island and Currituck is just as cool to see and climb.
Food Lion is my favorite grocery store, but then there's a ton of them in North Carolina. My Food Lion has marked down meat each week so that's good for me being strict ketovore. Williamsburg looks to be pretty neat, never been there. I feel bad for those people that have to be in costume in this heat. Ha, love the turtles.
