Shimanami Kaido しまなみ海道
Riding the famous しまなみ海道 Shimanami Kaido on 9-May-2024 (end of the video) from 尾道 Onomichi to 今治 Imabari, with ゆめしま海道 Yumeshima Kaido as well (not in the video), totalling about 125.95km (small parts repeated as I was lost - forgotten to load Japan’s map into Garmin).
And on 10-May-2024 from Imabari to Onomichi (most of the video), totalling 89.47km (About 20 minutes after starting the ride, I rode back to the hotel to take the power bank left on the table, which I’ve forgotten to pack into the saddle bag).
I booked Giant TCR carbon bike but was given the 2022 Defy Advanced 2 with 105 groupset but tha’t alright. The bike feels very comfortable to ride. The 105 mechanical disc brake works flawlessly (I”m using Ultegra Di2 2x12-speed when I changed my bike more than 1 year ago, from Ultegra mechanical 2x11-speed).
One thing to get used to though is the setup. On my own bike, left shifter set to control both front derailleur and brake. On the rented bike, left shifter controls the front derailleur but the rear brake. I get confused initially.

Diving on 10 January 2020, before WHO declares the novel coronavirus pandemic. News already spread at the end of December 2019 that there's pneumonia similar to SARs from Wuhan, China. I wore mask thorough most of the Okinawa trip, except the diving excursion. Hope the pandemic will be over soon and I'll be able to travel again.
