    I can understand the manufacturers not wanting customers destroying a mower by leaving the drain plug out or not tightening it and having it come loose. But - the only way you can drain the water and oil is to turn it upside down and no one does that. I’ve been tempted to drill and tap for a 1/8” pipe plug drain - and safety wire it. I try to make it better by being sure the vent is open and covering the gearbox from the rain. It STILL gets condensation in it. In warm weather, with an open vent, you can run it hard and evaporate the water out of the oil. Letting it sit is not good.

    You will love it. I have a 1980 284 4x4 diesel. My dad bought it new and gave it to me before he died. Perfect size for me. They are fairly rare and new parts are expensive if you can find them. If you break it apart I suggest closely checking the clutch (which is a Mazda) as we had to replace the one in mine. I got my clutch rebuilt instead of buying a new one. You can google for 284 parts and find most of them you will need. Good luck with the restore, rebuild, overhaul.

    If you can and got the resources to do it with and the know how , I hope that you fully restore the tractor. It would be awesome if you do. Whatever you choose to do, have fun and enjoy your tractor.

    How did you end up getting that yoke off? Having the same issue with mine.

    • @noellwilson1273
      @noellwilson1273 2 місяці тому

      I think that yoke half has a bolt through the yoke and the shaft. After several years of agony, I think the shear bolt needs to be changed once a month - depending on how rough you are on it. It gets partly sheared on both sides of the shaft and you end up with a tight fitting bolt with two offsets in it. You can’t get to it to cut it, it’s too strong to shear, and you can’t drive it out. I’ve had to cut several yokes. Better to spend $2 a month.

    Hey, Im impressed seeing someone so young doing a compost video! Great motivation! This could be a great video if you said why you are layering goat clean out and leaves and water. Also your music is way, way too loud and you are mumbling. I kept having to turn the volume down when music came on, then rewind so I could hear you speak. I look forward to seeing you grow into your technical abilities and content!

    The best insurance for doing what you’re doing is some personal protective equipment. The hydraulic fluid is under enough pressure to penetrate your skin or eyes if you have a leak. Hearing problems won’t develop right away but are permanent.

    No break-in on the engine? Pretty sure the manual says to break in at idle for 3 hours. Curious to see how well yours lasts. Just finished breaking mine in, splits like a dream. Welding on a cross bar for 4 way splits today

      Friend of mine did that and he was so sorry he did. When splitting stringy wood it sucked you have two partial splits with the four pieces stuck together. He went back to original single split wedge.

    It is recommended on any log splitter to check all hose connections each and every time you go to use the splitter, as vibration may have a tendency to loosen the connections.
