Don't write comments praising the album under these I listened to it for the first time videos. The guy is making a fictional video and pretending to be surprised and acting ridiculously. And you write comments like "look, you just discovered it, but this is the best album in the world". Young people, why do you give these idiots credit?

The album's cover images were photographed by Aubrey "Po" Powell, Thorgerson's partner at the design studio Hipgnosis, and inspired by the idea that people tend to conceal their true feelings, for fear of "getting burned", and thus two businessmen were pictured shaking hands, one man on fire. "Have a Cigar" is a cynical take on record company executives who court and cajole bands to sign with their label. Ironically, Pink Floyd had just gone through that process with Columbia records, which lured it away from the EMI conglomerate after The Dark Side Of The Moon album.

"You Never Gave Me Your Money" came about when they were all suing each other as the band was breaking up.

I bought my first Pink Floyd album in 1969 (Ummagumma) and saw them live in 1971 and 4 more times after that. For me This is the BEST band of all times. Now I'm 71 years old and still listen to them everyday.

They did on the run without the digital synthesizers of today😮😮 they were pioneers of experimental sound .. And the 2 min plus intro to time 😮😮could not be done today.

Each song transitions into the next . ❤😮😮you get it my man. Later in the album..the transition of brain damage into eclipse is considered the best of all time

The story of Syd Barrett is really sad. The guy was a genius. During his time with the band, he was the lead singer, songwriter and lead guitarist. He and Roger Waters were great friends. Roger described him as a genius and a beautiful man. Syd got into dropping acid and dropped over 400 hits of acid in 2 years. On a weekend trip to Paris, Syd came back and the band members described him as forever changed. Roger has been quoted as saying that Syd wasn't there anymore and he had two black holes for eyes. Shortly after Syd was diagnosed as Schizophrenic. He tried to continue to write songs and play, but it wasn't working anymore. He was replaced by David Gilmore. The rest is history. A few years later Syd dropped by the studio when they were recording. No one recognized him. He had gained about 30 pounds and shaved all his body hair off including eyebrows. Roger was said to have cried after Syd left. Roger always made sure Syd got his royalty paychecks from songs he contributed to.

i haven't seen a comment explaining this yet, so I'll jump in!! the song Her Majesty that was at the very end of the album and only 20 something seconds long was originally intended to go in between Mean Mr Mustard and Polythene Pam in the medley!! (if you look up the originally intended medley on youtube, you can see how well it flows) they took it out last minute and stuck it right on the end. the only thing i dont know is why lol, but i LOVE listening to it in its original state, because The End has a bigger impact in my opinion. absolutely loooove this album 🫶

i know im 3 years late, but fun fact!! Paul got the idea for The Fool on the Hill because he was out on a walk one day and looked over and saw a mysterious looking man in the distance, looked away for a second, and when he looked back the man was completely gone 😅 ive always loved that story (people who know the story better, feel free to correct me on anything i got wrong)

Hi Jony, I discovered this masterpiece back in 1974 in the summer of that year, I’ve never grown tired of it, I’m now 65 going on 66 and have been a lifelong admirer of Pink Floyd’s music, this I think can be best described as existential which is a word I had no concept of back in the day, I am so thrilled that you get the same vibe as I got and still do, we are all on the same page in the western world when confronted with these issues challenging us as human beings, John from London, UK
