For me, back then the solution was simple - change the Direct X version I was using when launching. But I heard that Civ 5 had a recent update and people started having this problem. I don't know if you're on Reddit but in the smaller Civ5 subreddit someone posted a detailed step by step fix to this problem as a response to someone sharing a screenshot like this bug.

Do you mean the Grail? If you find it then I imagine you can bring it back to your central town and build it there for the free Chain Lightning every battle.

@@guest273 I'm just curious, could anyone ever find it? On the visible map, there seems to be no place that corresponds to the puzzle.

@@Semeon-q8v I imagine that by opening the Campaign maps in the map Editor you'd be able to locate the Grail. :D But I don't know if anyone has ever found it by playing. A lot of the Obelisks seem to be inaccessible so you'd have to make a really good guess.

I've just finished this map (1.7.2)! Without your guide it was impossible for me to pass the last water puzzle. Maybe even the previous puzzle could stop me. To fight Breus, I also used your ideas. However I found the position of the Grail and I didn't use the map editor. This position is where the Matriarch is! So you can't use the Grail on this map. IMHO it is the best map for HOMM.

The answer is the same whether or not you have or don't have HotA (Horn of the Abyss). You need to google HotA 1.7.2 download, there will be a multitude of links (mirrors) provided. The automatic installer can't download big patches, so you'll be stuck at 1.7.1 if you don't manually download an update it.

@@guest273 thank u..when I started the hota, it loaded me with a page where there were several links to 1.7.2.. I tried 4 and it found some kind of malware everywhere, so I don't know how much to believe it, when the page with these individual links to download 1.7.2 was The hota 1.7.1 client that I have now was loaded.. sr for my english, im czech haha :D

@@vendulamachackova9190 The malware / virus / trojan popups from the antiviruses are a false positive. Since the original code for Heroes 3 was lost the way it's being modified is by injecting new code in between the existing one, which is typically what a virus does, so of course all the antiviruses and windows see it as a threat, because that's not how games are typically moded. In the official HotA webpage they have an FAQ where one of the points addressed is about the virus popups.

@@guest273 thanks.. but even when i solved problem with antivirus, each download when i want to start it, it writes me that i dont have permission.. i tried to run it as administrator, it didnt work and i checked account on notebook and im administrator, so i have acces to start it but its not working even im that admin.. i really dont know what to do :(

​@@vendulamachackova9190 Did you install your Heroes 3 on program files? Because that's known to cause some problems. You could try installing Heroes 3 with HotA on another hard drive / other PC or even a USB drive and then transferring the game files to your computer.

Interesting proposition. I was considering redoing the FiF Campaign when ... well ... when I would be jobless again. :D But I don't think that'll happen anytime too soon.

Indeed. Anyways, at least I got intelligence and found a way to grab clone. I just started the following map and still didnt get my earth, guess I'll have to go withou it =/

@@eltonamanciojeronymo7957 Oooof. I think Earth is very heavily recommended... if not even mandatory. If you level up your Wisdom / take the other magics first Earth should be offered to you. Still might be some RNG, but maybe you can reset until you can grab it on your first Map 2 level up.

Glad to hear you're waiting for my streams! ^^ The Map 4 stream should be either this Friday evening or Saturday day time. I did struggle quite a bit with the 2nd map. I'm already thinking back on it - how I could have done it better and I think this map without Pathfinding/Logistics combo would be total hell.

I dont know what went wrong on my run on map 2. Solmyr came wondering right side of map and came wrecking in. Try 3 on medium going on and its making me gray hair. Thats why your runs are so important! 🤣

​@@eemelikujanpaa1859 Yeah, Solmyr is technically not one of the three scripted tough enemy heroes, but his Chains can and will absolutely wreck Kilgor, so he's the first mini-boss you have to handle. Since he chains it's vital that you have fast creatures to go in immediately + leave him some shooters you don't care about as targets for his chain lightning. The fact that he approaches from the Right side so quickly basically leaves out any options for Dargem to stay on the water early, maybe even to go middle with Dargem. If I would replay the map now I would probably try breaking the Magic Elementals asap.

*:(* Heroes 3 audio quality is very overpowering. I'll see if I can knock it down a bit for the next streams. Yet it's only on 4% at the moment. That's how powerful it is...

💯 I think the text in the second map when Dargem visits Elmore's shack also hints at this. Dargem notes that Elmore, same as Miriam is putting strange things in their own mouths... xD 😲😲😲

Another iconic moment is when you see an enemy hero with 1 creature, attack him thinking you'll simply magic arrow it, only to realize that the enemy hero's creature is faster, he magic arrows / ice bolts / lightning bolts you and runs away. Damn, I really should continue this series. :D

xD Yeah, I just checked how I did the fight and that 100% felt too easy! xD So I guess they patched it. My guess is that you have to use your full army for this fight... or at least part of your army. Like Efreeties + Clone or Master Genies + Clone. Or corner camping + Cloning Engineers to repair... Or some sort of teleportation strategy? Maybe like Bounty Hunter hasted outspeed the Efreeti, so you bring Bounty hunters + 6 one-stacks of Armadillos to keep him busy for some time, run the shooter to the corner, Clone (Edit: Or Frenzy) him and then try to win it from there? Actually you can still do it with 1 dragon, no? If you just fly like I did his Anti-Magic will run out, he will recast it, but eventually he will run out of mana! Edit2: If you do the fight on 1.7.1. then please respond to this comment and tell us how you did it!

@@guest273 Plegeth has 1440 mana points and the 11th spell power and his Efreets has the 11-step speed in the 1.7.1. So it is impossible to outmaneur this army or to wait until his mana is ended. I used automatons and engineers combination with Haste. Bounty Hunters helped too. Efreets were busy with the automatons. I also used goblins as blocks. IIRC I lost 1 goblin.

@@guest273 btw the 1.7.1 differs much from the 1.7 - it has two new town battles. The battle with Dryope is really something of an epic nature. In this battle, Automatons are much better than Sentinel Automatons! I hope they have not made so many changes in the newest 1.7.2.

@@TOIVI2012 I originally though you will need summon boat or water walk to reach it, so I didn't check it earlier... maybe that's why the map felt so difficult!

I will reply again, because sometimes UA-cam removes comments with links, but the previous part to this should be Map 4, Part 3. It's a bit confusing because Map 4 had Parts 1, 2, 2.5 because 2 & 2.5 should be the same part, but the stream crashed.

Well... I got so many of the iconic sounds wrong. Xd And took a longer time to think than intended for some of them. I'm glad you enjoyed it though. :D

100% they've changed Styg's level to make the Map / Campaign more difficult. Her Specialty is Sorcery, so each extra level she has increases her spell damage by 5%.

I also saw that the Heroes transferred and I immediately went back to Map 7 (actually I think I did that after the failed attempt) to level them up. When I write 'level' I mean grab the Primary stats / spells they can learn from Map 7. Like 2 knowledge isn't a lot, but It's 1, almost 2 more TP per turn, if their mana gets restored. My Henrietta was also pretty bad (No Wisdom, No Schools of Magic), I didn't teach her Town Portal. Instead I taught it to the Frost Ring hero, as she had the highest Mana Pool available + Earth Magic. Sadly my Map 8 Henrietta was an 'extra'. She fought the level 5+ dwellings, collected resources, visited windmills, stole back mines, transported army / artifacts, etc. Wynona with 3 schools of magic + Intelligence was my main hero on Map 8, she did all the hard fights minus maybe the first 3-5 enemy heroes that could be done my Balinder/Yovilla (extra heroes).

@@guest273 good to know, thanks! I Will try to grab all the extra stat boosting on all the heros that will transfer. It will get diffucult because 4 unbeatable enemy heros are snatching my castles and are roaming lol.... Anyway if that is done i will finish the map and start on map 8. I see you did multipele tries so i am wondering what crazy challenges there are on that map.

I guess i should have chosen for earth magic instead of offense on henrietta. then she would be usefull, but on the other hand i don't know if i could have managed without offense on map 3. For me pathfinding, logestics, wisdom, air magic, archery and offense are key skills togethor with earth magic but she already had leadership and luck and i though you would not get town portal and ressurection. I always greatly underestimated water magic but now i played this campaign my opinion has totally changed so i now know which 8 skills are the best (which i find the best)

@@MrSientelo If I knew Henrietta carried all the way trough to map 8 I would also 100% hunt for Earth Magic with her and not take Pathfinding. But I didn't. And the Campaign makers accounted for that with Wynona, Frederick, Boyd, etc. They gave you plenty of other good heroes so a bad skill tree wouldn't end the Campaign run and I really appreciate that.

Black Dragons!? I didn't know they added Black Dragons in 1.7.1. In 1.7.0 you didn't have/need Black Dragons. With border guards you usually want to save game and check asap if the troops get stuck or not. I got some Dendroid Soldiers stuck in Map 3 by not checking. xD As far as I know there's no way to get your troops out of a Garrison that's made so troops can't be removed from it... And as I don't have an answer for your Black Dragon question I suggest that you google / check other websites, maybe someone who's done the Campaign on 1.7.1 could help you out... Sadly my playthrough has become badly outdated not even a year later. :(

@@guest273 as always thanks for your quick response, maybe it's also outdated but do you know where to get the emblem of cognizance? There is a quest for it and i can't find it (i don't want to miss any boost for map 8 lol)

@@MrSientelo In my playthrough I never found either of the 2 Emblems. So I assume they're either help for the lower difficulties or they're tied to the hero with the 'Theodorus' portrait since in the 1.7.0 version you couldn't get this hero from the prison...

@@guest273 did a little digging and seems you need the emblem so you can learn berserker. However the berserker scroll is behind 600 rust dragons with a stack that keeps growing every week. No idea how to beat that in the first place. I took every prison but nothing that leads to the enblem. Maybe the crazy strong opponents that are left drop it, but some of them seem impossible, because they also have teleport spell and/or have anti forgetnusfull and/or have insta kill 100 couties magic arrow. Also Agar have 7 'flying' creatures. I will try to get all power ups with wynona and henrietta and finish the scenario. Maybe it's just bugged. Can't wait for all the frustration on the last impossible map..... As always thanks for your quick reply.
